and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I used to think that in the next 10 years or so having a master's was going to be the equivalent to what having a bachelor's 20 years ago was. To get considered for any position above front line leader (team lead etc) was going to require one almost universally. One could maybe work their way up but it was going to be a fight to be taken seriously and applying for a leadership role at a different firm was going to absolutely require it. I thought the exception could be certain technical areas where certifications could propel one into areas of people or though leadership. But, higher ed is starting to lose a wee bit of luster as of late and getting a degree for the sake of having one may not hold the kind of sway I was expecting. Having one still definitely greases the skids though. As to increasing earning potential? Not for at least 5 years in a given field but, like I said, it greases the skids into leadership roles (or at least kicks open the door) and that can have a significant impact on earnings potential over the span of a career.

poor hank, you never had the makings of a varsity athlete.

What are you talking about? I'm the 1st place winner of the first ever FCPNBCHUPCBC. You had better check your tone when addressing a champion, my boy.

it's funny you ask that because the one that i know of is out at the legends outlets by the racetrack casino and several times when i was leaving i've thought to myself that i should get a sandwich there, probably a delicious chicken philly. but sadly i never have.

have you been re-watching the series now that hbo2 is rebroadcasting for the 20th anniversary or whatever? I tried to start over but I just couldn't knowing where it all ended.

Anyone else had pepperjax before?

Footprint is roughly around Napa/Brv/Essay/Hank. One of the things that makes me really miss KS.

there was one about a block from the office but it closed.

Why would you ever get Pepperjax, when you can have chipotle, amirite?

As much as I disapprove of chain dining, I'm giving this one to SA and Strat, just because I feel like it's disrespectful to Pat's and Geno's and their disgusting cheese sauce. Even the expression "chicken philly" feels like it would ruffle some feathers. Plus, I've never heard of it; places like this and Lion's Choice can remain exotic forever in my mind, because there is no foreseeable circumstance under which I'll ever have to prove that they aren't just knockoff Arby's, which is already inedible.

In terms of local fast food sandwhich places Pepperjax is up there and always my first choice above the other chain subs.

My only complaint is every time I go there, and I refuse to change, I always get a “philly steak with everything” and they say “even jalapeños?” And I say “yes” because that should be part of “everything” and I refuse to reward their behavior by saying “everything including jalapeños”.

i watched Swingers for the first time, and it sucks. how the hell are people talking about this movie like it's a classic?

I kind of agree with this, Swingers just feels gross and problematic to me. I've seen people try to reclaim it critically and present it as satire of the douchey, sexist bar culture that fringe Hollywood actors were surrounded with at the time. But it's not really done carefully enough to play that way, I've heard both male leads describe it fondly as mirroring their lives at the time, without any mention of an artistic point, and the director himself has described the film as a rebellious statement against PC culture or something hacky like that, so I'm just going to take the SA position on this one too. Swingers was a more offensive Entourage for people who can't even be bothered aspiring to have money.

It was a fun movie, but I agree, full of humor designed for the people who live in that absurd culture. One of my friends has lived there for like 7 years now, and he still does basically entry level technical stuff for film editing. Everything he says about having a roommate, difficulty dating, etc. is in line with what you see in that movie.

I’m sure it’s a blast to live there with wealth or gainful employment, but he has neither. I don’t know why he doesn’t go somewhere like MPLS, get paid more relative for the same work, be in an easier dating pool, and all the rest.

I have waffled on the CFA. I am going to focus on learning another software for the next few months. I love Excel but it isn’t a substitute for good business insights software, and to be able to do it from start to finish as one employee, with minimal time investment, is a pretty big value add for a smaller firm. I also think it’s a much clearer path to getting a bigger paycheck at my current employer.

Yeah, I don't know that I agree with Dutch. I think people misinterpreted it at the time, much like how a different sort of person loved fight club, without realizing it's ironic humor, but I don't think swingers intended to glamorize that lifestyle at all, I think it clearly makes it look pathetic.

Can’t help but think you’re subtweeting me here.

IRT analytics software...I have a subscription to a site called DataCamp that has a ton of courses and projects for learning Python and R. It’s $300/yr but I signed up when they were offering 50% off. If you actually do the work it’s for sure worth the $300 but if you’re unsure if it’s what you want I’d start with some free classes from coursera or similar. There’s a handful of people at work that know one or the other and have a few models we use built in them. After having a lightbulb moment on how to accomplish it I’m going to work on recreating one of my excel models in python over the next few months. Even having a cursory amount of knowledge in them for sure helped me get this job but also just the willingness to pursue learning them on my own was a big thing, too.

We use a BI software and my new boss wants me to learn it, basically. I could half-ass it and it not be a negative, but I like the idea of being able to recreate what we have for another firm.
