Hans, boubie, I'm your white knight

holy shit, I can't stop listening to Run The Jewels 2

Bob Dylan.

That Busdriver album is unreal. Is his other stuff worth checking out?
yes. i have been trying to get people to listen to busdriver for ages. i made a topic about him on here years ago. check out temporary forever and fear of a black tangent, especially unemployed black astronaut and avantcore from fear of a black tangent.

I twitch anytime I see Jay listed ahead of Nas.
It's not that I necessarily think he's a better MC, and I definitely don't think he's a better writer, but Jay-Z was one of the artists that got me really, really into hip-hop, so he holds that spot for sentimental reasons.Nas killed him in their beefing days, though. Ether redefined the dis track, and is easily one of my favorite songs ever. I also contend that One Mic is in the running for greatest song ever written.

As far as what I'm listening to today:Idlewild - Make Another WorldJohn Vanderslice - Emerald CityCaribou - Andorra (again. I love this album. I described it to a friend as what would have happened if Brian Wilson joined The Mamas and The Papas, and they made music in this millenium. Or The Shins with more instruments and muddier vocals. Plus electronic sounds, from time to time. Those might be terrible descriptions, but I'm no critic.)Later, possibly some New Pornographers (probably Mass Romantic). Haven't really thought that far ahead yet.

Well most Nas fans are still on his nuts about Illmatic, personally though I think It Was Written is the best hip-hop album of all time, and he has never put out anything that I have absolutely hated though some of his collaboration's have been questionable (Puffy, most the stuff with Bravehearts).I like Jay as an artist, but he is way more pop than what he used to be. I remember reading an article that was a first hand account of a battle that took place back in like 93 between Jay and DMX that sounded like the greatest thing to ever happen in underground rap, but I think Jay has lost that edge that he used to have. He slides into my top 10, but I don't think I can give him top 5 now.

Personally, It Was Written is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite Nas album, and as far as albums he released that I absolutely hated... well, I choose to try and ignore the fact that he made Street's Disciple. Fuck I hate that album. I love pretty much everything else though, including "Hate Me Now." :DAnd I agree about Jay-Z. I love Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. His latest album is absolute garbage, though, and he's put out his fair share of turds.

Yep. To his credit even on his bad albums he manages a few pretty good tracks. I also like a lot of his underground stuff pre 2001 or so, some great mix tape appearances.

jamie t- panic preventionyoung kid from england. sounds like mike skinner if he was musically competent and just a smidge less cockney. the kid is good.
Yeah, I've only heard a couple of his tunes, but I realllllly dug what I've heard. He's playing a show here that's put on by the local indie/listener-supported station, KEXP.

I've been going through the albums on my iPod in alphabetical order by album title. Yesterday was:A Crow Left Of The Murder (Incubus)A Ghost Is Born (Wilco)A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Coldplay)A Sun Came (Sufjan Stevens)Achilles Heel (Pedro The Lion)Alright Still (Lily Allen)Today should be:Amnesiac (Radiohead)And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (Damien Jurado)Andorra (Caribou)Awake Is The New Sleep (Ben Lee)I might also have time to crack the B's. Not sure. Also, going to see Wilco tonight. Should be good times. Haven't seen them as a band in 2 years or so. Saw Jeff Tweedy solo when he toured last fall/winter.

On the subject of hip-hop, I've never heard an Aesop Rock song, though they (he?) comes up a lot along side a lot of the M.C. I like most. Am I missing something? If so, which record(s) should I start with?

Jesus...that whole album is unreal. He sounds like a mix between Del and Andre 3000, the lyrics are great, and the beats are remind of Dan the Automator, a bit. One of my favorite albums I can think of, after one listen. I'm downloading the discography.

Anybody hear the new New Pornographers yet? I just picked it up yesterday, and I'm really digging it. I think it was Pitchfork that said it sounded like more of a follow-up to A.C. Newman's solo album, and I can hear that for a couple of tracks, I guess. In general, just another really, really solid power-pop album from them, though.I also picked up the new Rilo Kiley. Kinda... disco-y. Definitely different from their old stuff. I like it, but don't love it.Roddy Woomble's "My Secret is my Silence" is a really, really good album too. He's the frontman for Idlewild, though his solo stuff is, naturally, a little more stripped down than the Idlewild stuff.

I liked the new New Pornographers album a lot, though it's not in the same league as their big two, in my opinion. That doesn't mean I don't dig it. I'm usually pleased when I like indy stuff that PF doesn't, because I'm overly-concerned about becoming a PF drone. It occupies more of my brain function than it safely should.

It's nice to see how well this thread is still doing in the TV forum.Anyway, I assume this is a nondiscovery, but I still think it's awesome: Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture. I'm not sure what it is, exactly; I think it's old Wu-Tang beats with verses from underground guys on them (along with new verses from Wu-Tang guys), but I have no idea why it's associated with Apple, or if it's a legitimated release. I do know that it's incredible. Anyone else hear it?

This sucks, I'm back at school and can't download music because I got caught by my university last year and if caught again I can get in serious trouble. So I'm going to be pretty behind on new music this year.Deltron 3030

No idea, since I lived in the dorm last year we were all on the same network, but I knew of a lot of people that did it anyway. I did it all year and was fine, then literally the last day of school I got an email from administration saying they caught me downloading an episode of Entourage of all ****ing things. I took some quiz about pirating which basically consisted of "Is downloading copyrighted material legal? Y or N" so I did that, but my next offense I could face disciplinary action through the school, then any further offense I could face legal action. Whatever, I'll just have download a shit ton of music whenever I go back home.

Man, I wish I could live in a dorm. That sounds awesome. I'm always looking for new ways to subject myself to new forms of authority in my adulthood, because I didn't get enough of that when I was 14.
