LongLiveYorke 38
You don't (didn't) like Spoon? I thought they were like the the faux-indie Tom Petty.I've never really been huge on Spoon. I find them to be somewhat generic. But like, indie generic. Like, when I think of stereotypical indie, I think of Spoon, which isn't necesarily a good thing. I also sort of associate the New Pornographers into that stereotypical indie category, but I like the New Pornographers, so there's that.Meh.

timwakefield 68
Another really heady, really crazy, really dope track from Kashiwa Daisuke:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byC5q9fZz0wNote, listen for at least 50 seconds, cuz that's when the crazy shit kicks in. If I'm enjoying this music, I might also enjoy ____________. (Fill in the blank, if you have suggestions). Also, Sonic Seduction Volumes 1 and 2 by Sa-Ra are fantastic. They're each just 15-minute EPs. New-electronic-instrumental-soul-funk-hip-hop or something, if I had to classify it.
mk 11
totally throwing a mj party next weekend (would be this weekend but i'm moving which is teh ghey)when i used to spin i'd play like 80% mj some nights anyway.when i was ~4 years old i had a beat it t-shirt that i wore basically every day and also had a white glove i'd rock in the privacy of my bedroom where i'd spin thriller endlessly. there are pictures of this somewhere...i realize to a lot of you younger tykes he was never anything more than the butt of jokes, but i urge you to listen to (at the very least) off the wall and thriller, two records that, to me, display the most talented pop musician in history at the peak of his game. just astonishing record-making... timwakefield 68
So I finally started listening to Burial's self-titled album. Totally mesmerizing and hypnotizing. I've listened a couple times, and for about the first half of the album I completely love it, and then by the second half I start to get weary of how repetitive it is. But having only listened to it through about twice, this is just my initial reaction, not my 'official opinion' on the album. Bottom line: it's kind of exciting. Not just that the album is a new and fairly amazing sound (to my ears), but that I kind of never thought I'd get into any kind of drum and bass or new-dub or whatever the hell you would call this.Edit: I'm still not sure how I feel about the repetitiveness, but 'Forgive' is a fantastic track that I kind of brushed over in my first listen, probably because there's no beat. mk your recommendation is pulling about an A+ right now. Not that I'm necessarily giving the album an A+, just the recommendation, if that makes sense.

Sal Paradise 57
listened to the new wilco album and I mean, I liked it, but it's like after about 5 wilco songs, I'm like "that's enough wilco for me."

Tactical Bear 3
Handsome Furs- Face ControlOf Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner, I have always been partial to the latter's work with Wolf Parade, so I was disappointed a little with Plague Park, Boeckner's first effort with the Furs side project. I never felt like he put it together and let it rip. Somehow I missed that he dropped a second release earlier this year. It's good.

timwakefield 68
-The Avalanches- Since I Left YouThis album is pretty fucking excellent. I'm on my first listen. Also, official opinion on Burial: Fantastic. Like, if I were an annoying music critic (or a cool music critic, I suppose) I'd give it a 9.7, and I wouldn't be some easy-going critic. An album pulling a 9.7 would likely be at least top 3 albums of whichever year.

JoeyJoJo 18
I'd like to be a part of this thread because there's a lot of good posts in here and I like a lot of the regular posters, but I don't think I'd fit in due to: lack of emotional investment in music. I had a girlfriend once who was going away for a significant period of time and she asked me to make her a mix CD for her. I didn't really know what that meant, but it certainly didn't have a Nick & Nora meaning to me. So I just put together a CD of a bunch of her favorite songs and some of my favorite songs and there it was. There was absolutely zero meaning behind any of the songs. I mean, she was going away for half the year and we weren't really going to be able to talk during this time and she wanted me to put something together for her, so she had to have been trying to read some deeper meaning into my song choices, right?I wish I could remember what songs I put on there. Possibility of terrific irony: high.p.s. colon usage was: homage to Bear.

JoeyJoJo 18
possibility of irony... you were an alanis fan?I was using irony in the “actual consequences opposite of what was intended” manner. Doesn’t that work? I intended to just give her some songs that she liked, but may have delivered a sappy, heartfelt and/or mean, uncaring message. For example, it’s possible the song “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt was on there.
