As I was just reminded at the draw tables, I've always struggled with whether players should be able to use a language other than English. My first reaction is that they could easily be talking about their hands (especially on an Omaha or Stud table) and no one would know about it, unless some dude was auditing all chats that knew the language. I know that using an English-only rule would affect mainly Scandanavian players as in my experience they tend to be the bulk of the non-English speaking players online, and sites may fear losing a serious part of their players because of such a rule. I also realize that 2 people could be speaking English but using some kind of code they made up so that they could discuss cards w/o giving it away. However, I also know that 2 people at a live table at any serious Casino may not talk in another language while at the very least one or both are in a hand, and usually you cannot do much talking in general during live play. So, should you only be able to type in English? Only alternative seems to be really restricting the chat.Seriously, no offense to the Norgies, Swedes, Finns, Danes, or anyone floating on the fjords.

you really think that with the availabity of AIM or MSN or anyhting that these players would take the risk of telling their hole cards over the client software where it can be easily monitored?Personally, if they're gonna collude...there's a ton of easier ways out there that won't necessarly get you caught

Hey dude,Dont worry about the English-only rule stopping Scandinavian players from joining a poker room. We all study English in school for about 6 years, we dont dub our English movies (and we all sure watch a lot of them..) and we are generally fairly well versed with the English language. The only countries in mainland Europe where this would possibly be a problem would be southern countries such as Spain, France and Italy but they a really small part of the European poker community and hey basically what they need to know is what call, fold, raise means which I guess they do if they play poker.Later

Fixed your post.
