phil hellmuth favorite all time moment

Recommended Posts

Slow day at work. Here are your choices:1. Phil gives his "If it wasn't for luck, I'd win every time" speech during the 2004 WSOP telecast.2. Chris Ferguson makes a full house on the river against Phil at the 2005 National Heads Up Championship. Phil crumples to the floor in agony.3. Antonio Esfandiari repeatedly b_tch slaps Phil during the WPT event at Lucky Chances Casino. To add insult to injury, Mr. Rocks and Rings busts Phil and does "the Wave" while Phil tries to shake his hand.4. Phil gives his "I can dodge bullets, baby" speech during the 2005 WSOP telecast.5. Annie Duke drops the hammer on Phil during the 2004 Tournament of Champions.6. Phil shocks millions of viewers when he appears shirtless while meditating during a profile segment on the 2004 WSOP telecast.7. Don "The Matador" Everest busts Phil during the Main Event of the 2004 World Poker Championship. Phil's such an easy target. My favorite in person moment occurred at this year's LA Poker Classic at Commerce. Phil was at the same table as Erick Lindgren and Layne Flack. Phil gets a 10 minute penalty for dropping a f-bomb. Phil storms off into the hallway. Phil finally returns and the first thing he says is, "Let's play some f----ing cards!." BAM! Another 10 minute penalty. Phil storms off again. The whole table busts up laughing. Daniel probably has one or two good stories about Phil. Daniel, care to enlighten the forum?

The "I was supposed to go broke, but they forgot... I can dodge bullets" was pretty classic. The "F'ing donkies screwing up.... series... ... mother... if only... better than them..." speech as he was leaving this years series was great as well.

What about when he gets busted at the 2005 WSOP and says that the guy "can't even spell poker" and that he was "trying to catch a flight." That's probably my favorite.

What about the time Phil's AK lost to that guy KJ at the WSOP and phil gets real pissed and says "this guy doesn't even know how to spell poker." I though that was pretty clever, even from Hellmuth himself

Man, these are some good ones. The "I can dodge bullets, baby" was splendid, as was the "If it weren't for luck...".Ultimately, I went for the "If it weren't for luck" speech. I think it really sums up how Phil feels about his game. And, you know what, I think that's awesome. You learn pretty quickly in any competitive endeavor that you have to think you're The Man to have any chance. I love how Phil's pathological ego just makes him a wee bit more honest than 99% of the rest of us. Plus, it is truly great TV. Truly.Still, my all-time favorite poker-related TV moment still remains non-Hellmuth-related. If there is anything better than Chau Giang's "I love play pokah" bit, I'd love to see it. That's the best thing... ever.

"if luck wasn't involved I'd win everone of these damn things"............thats funny i say the same thing :)say what ya want about phil being a baby or a whiner, but he is one of the best when it comes to making himself a celebrity. He knew how to use the cameras to his advantage. and let's face it, there is one man in poker who's name is a household name, it would be phil. Phil used the "poker boom" to the best of his ability to make him a celebrity and for that I give him alot of credit. PS...................I can spell poker............PHIL HELMUTH!!!!!!!!!

In my ever so humble opinion ...Phil's opinion of his own play is why he hasn't been very successful in recent years. It feels like his game has stagnated and he's manifestly failed to adapt to some of the tactics newer players to the game have employed against him.Because Phil believes he's the best and never seems to admit he's ever been outplayed, he doesn't do anything to improve his game.

How bout Toto Leonidas sucking out on Phil and Phil diving onto a stage as if he was shot.
That was a great one, but the best part was the interview afterwards. It was probably shot like weeks later but he was so steaming. He said something like "I let him run over me because I heard stories about him getting lucky in big pots." lol When he finally took a stand that's exactly what happened to him. I love watching the guy and I must admit I am a fan.

Hoyt's running sevens is second best only to the look on Hoyt's face when he shakes Phil's hand goodbye. "And Hoyt, I can't wait to get another shot at you." Hoyt gets the most sarcastic grin on his face, and it visibly makes Phil want to cry.I prefer it when he's really pissed off rather than overdramatizing it and just trying to make a name for himself. The yoga segment had me laughing forever, though.

I think it's hilarious that Phil never says YOU to the "Villains". He says things like, I told HIM what I had and HE wanted to give me all HIS chips, while looking at the guy...cracks me up.
