Guest
I have just started playing in a B&M 3/6 hold em game. I was surprised by the amount people at the table were tipping. They were tipping 1 to 3 dollars on almost every pot. Is this standard? What should I be tipping? Should I only tip if I win over a certain amout?
FREDDIE MERCURY 0
The limit here is 1/2 and people tip at least $1 every hand they win.

If I win a pot between 75-100 I'll tip $2. If the pot is over $200 I'll tip more, usually way more
ckbandit 0
The only time I tip is when I win the WSOP ME. And that's $100. SWI tip every time I win a decent pot. It's usually just a couple bucks regardless of the stakes I play. (Varies from 4-8 to 10-20 at B&M's)I'd avoid tipping the dealers online.......because it's rigged. :-)

Unfortunately, that never happens :-)
711Buddha 0
If there is no flop and I steal, I ususally only tip about half the time. If there is a showdown, I always tip, no matter how small the pot.$1 is standard in a 3/6 game. $2 for a big pot. $3 seems pretty extravagant. I have seen players tip half dollars, especially for small pots. I've only done it once and it was because the dealer was cheesing me off. (multiple misdeals.) I think dealer tipping is like waiter tipping. That's how they make their living and if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out (or play in a B&M) - There are self serve restaurants and internet games for people that don't tip. However, as mentioned above - the dealer needs to be competent to earn that tip. Its relatively automatic, but certainly there's reasons for holding back.
DDiabolical 0
Damn $1 per pot? So they're getting like $40/hr on top of whatever their wages are? They're f'ing raking it in.

pokerplayer24 0
From wat i've seen lots of people at low limit holdem tables don't tip at all. I was at a table and basically me and 2 other guys were tipping and that was it. I usually tip 1$ for any pot over 4-5 bb and 2$ for anything big (over like 10 bb)
turd ferguson 1
If i know the dealer and like them I will tip them five bucks as soon as they sit down. Otherwise, I will tip when they leave based on how well they delt. They can't control whether or not I win a big pot. The only time I won't tip is when I'm stuck pretty bad in a game, and even then I usually manage a little something.
KingAustin 0
I havent been to a B&M yet, but when I do (thanksgiving break), I dont think I'll be tipping the dealer. They are getting paid to sit there and deal cards. I'll let the others tip them unnecessarily.
Petoria 0
I tip $1 at most whenever I remember after I win a pot. I play 6/12 at my closest B&M. If I don't remember about the tip, then I won't tip. It's not part of my routine after winning a pot. Then again, I'm kind of an *******. If the dealer is giving me an attitude, then they get nothing. I'm just trying to teach you some B&M ediquette. You've never been before so don't just assume you know what's best. I assume you're playing fairly low limit, and it's best just to keep things friendly. You don't have to make a living off of the game, and even if you did it would be rude not to tip a little bit. elnino 0
i applied to work as a casino dealer at brantford and im still waiting to hear back but i do know that starting dealers make about 13-14 bucks an hour and with the tip its around 17-18. the tips are split between all the table games dealers in the casino
Matt Over Aces 0
Playing some 5/5 NL at Turning Stone on Saturday, I won a couple of pots that were in excess of 1000 dollars, and I tipped 10$ on both. One player at the table (who's a big money online guy) told each dealer that if he dealt him a pot over 1000$, he'd tip 75$.He wasn't lying and he did it twice while I was there. That's a bit much if you ask me, but the dealers liked us.On a side note, it was really important that the dealers didn't act any more appreciative of his $75 than they did of a 1$ or 2$ tip. I'm sure on the inside they're jumping up and down, but it was good etiquette to not make other players feel inferior for tipping 1$.

Never gets old.....I'm 18, limited bankroll, and dont feel like giving away a BB in tips every few hands. Talk about a leak...
DDiabolical 0
I really see no duty in tipping. They chose that job, they're gambling on their income the same way I'm gambling on my open-ender.$40/hr, it's like 8x the minimum wage.

If you get pushed a couple of pots I think it is necessary to tip the dealer.

They're f'ing raking it in.Don't bet on it. 40 hands/hr is nowhere near what they deal. 25-30 is ambitious, and that's figuring there are no drunks, nits, etc, that are slowing the game to a crawl. Figure the number of people that are stiffing them, and they're not getting $40/hr.

kevinoc85 0
I think I heard that Doyle Brunson almost never tips the dealer. If you're playing for a living, maybe tip sparingly. If you're playing for fun, tip as much as you want.
sniper 0
Watch out for shills (usually off-duty dealers playing poker). They will tip big, usually 3-4 bucks per pot, just so everyone thinks that is the norm.A buck a pot is plenty. If a dealer deals 20 hands an hour, that's 20 bucks an hour in tips, plus about $6.00 an hour in wages = $26.00/hr. That's over $50,000 a year at 40 hours a week. Not bad...
