LAPoker 0
It's funny that you mention Mel Juda. I met Mel at Commerce last year, and while I obviously knew who he was, I did not know how talented he was. Mel was talking about a hand, and had a different opinion about it than I did. Foolish as I was I told Mel, man I don't agree with you, the guy could have easily had a premium hand. We went our seperate ways, and about a month later I sat with my mouth open, as I watched him come back from being shortstacked to dismantel that WPT final table. When I saw Mel before the WPT Championship, I made sure to go up to him and let him know that after watching his performance, I realized that I had no business questioning his reasoning. HarryDemetriou 0
I think the important thing is to listen to rival points of view on how to play a hand. You do not have to agree with what is being said but try and understand how someone may view a situation differently.Just like reading the books...you get to think about situations without necessarily agreeing with the way a hand is played. Some players when fcing a raise re raise holding AQ whilst others call and others still prefer the fold. Depending on the situation all can be correct or incorrect but it really depends on your own and opponents preferred styles of play.It is only after a hand is completed when the optimal play is known and unfortunately none of us have the luxury of seeing into the future when all the information suddenly becomes available. choic 0
Likewise, good read Harry.I am always impressed with successful sports bettors. Yourself, Martin the Knife made very good money betting on sports. What's the magic? I don't follow European soccer but into all other sports. This year the sportsbook has been killing me! I've had one very good win and that was the superbowl. Lately, it's been a real cold long streak. Only decent win in June was the Strickland vs Martel 9 ball match. I took Martel at 4:1How do you beat the oddsmakers?

HarryDemetriou 0
I genuinely love playing poker and writing about it.It's been good to me in the short period of time that I have played it and I can't see why I can't try and give something back however small it may be in the form of making the odd post here and there. As for $100 per post I'll let Daniel off if he allows me to employ his mother to prepare food for me during major tournaments. I've been trying to get him to agree but he keeps declining my reqeust. Don't you just hate these selfish prima donna's when they want to keep all the secrets to winning major tournaments to themselves;-)

HarryDemetriou 0
I keep forgetting to reply to the bit about sports betting. Sincerest apologies.Anyway I've been betting for years on horseracing and sports ever since I care to remember and it's appeal for me has always been that you do not have to be the best at any sports betting merely better than the majority of others.I use mathematical and statistical based models that I developd myslef to identify common thrends to winning bets. I have also undetaken numerous scientific paper searches (remember I have a scientific background and access to scientific paper libraries) and read everything I possibly could on gambling. You would be amazed at how much information is available out there and research that has been conducted by highly academic mathematicians who do it purely as an academic exercise.I have aslo used neural nets and artificial intelligence to try and identify key factors to successful bets but essentially I am a value seeker.eg If you look at a horserace then a horse that has recent good form is more likely to win today than one that has not shown any good recent form. If you look at a stcok market price then the best indicator as to where that price will be in 1 second time is it's current actual value at this instant in time. However the key is value for money and to be honest in this day and age it is very difficult to be a losing punter. If you take odds representing a greater chance of success than the true odds then you win otherwise you'll lose.Basically I guess I am saying that I have researched sports betting extensively in the same way that I would have methodically studied for my university qualifications except that with betting I had a greater interest and persued it with greater passion. With the internet and global competition essentially all people who bet are placing bets into markets that are juice free or have no vig against them.As such if you bet randomnly you should neither win nor lose but break even. If you do a bit of work then invariably you have abetter chance in this day and age of winning than at any time in the past.I specialise in soccer betting mainly becasue there seems top be a greater disparity between bookmakers when attempting to assess a sides chances of winning. One HUGE advantage that I and other non American's have, however, is that we have access to betting exchanges such as Betfair which have great liquidity in their markets. In fact if you look at the markets offered there you essentially get a very accurate reflection of what the true odds for any sporting event actually art as they are virtually 100% books or offer odds that approximate very accurately the true chance of success. In the same way that pari mutuel returns when stripped of the track take outs represent the true chance of a horses success if you can beat the pari mutuel return after the juice then you will win. (BTW In the Uk we can get to take a fixed odds price about a horse and are not tied to betting blind as far as the return is concerned. In time though I feel ceretain that betting exchanges will become freely available to Americans as the concept of betting against other punters across the globe represents the purest form of bettuing that I know - namely betting against an opponent virtuallyu juice free.Sorry if this sounds a little simple but in essence that's all there is to it - simply trying to be better than your rivals who take an opposing view to yourself.Having said that currently I am suffering quite badly having had a bet today on Australia to beat England in the first Test at Lords (This will be meaningless to Americans as the sport is cricket) but unfortunately I haven't quite managed to reach sports betting perfection and miserably failed to achieved 100% winning bets:-(

HarryDemetriou 0
Glad some of you enjoy my ramblings but I think you'll find there are times that I am not able to contribute so much as I get very involved in non poker related things or am in parts of the world when I have limited or no access to the internet.Unfortunately it's only really when I'm in the UK or in between tournaments in the USA that I really have much time for poker forums but nonetheless enjoy posting when I can. KDawgCometh 2
Harry, do you know if befair has the same no americans policy that Ladbrokes does. I have been to their site and have liked how the odds have been, though the format would take a little getting used to. I've been looking for a good sports betting site since I stopped betting at BoDog
