By the way, I'm from St. Louis too (lived there all my life). Just recently moved to Wisconsin. So I'm familiar with the Casino Queen, President, Harrah's, and St. Charles. (hehe)

IMO Considering there's been about 50 entries since Monday I'm sure no one is into the finals yet. To be honets I don't actually agree with having a public vote, I think Daniel should consult a marketing firm for input as this logo is going to be a branded image for FCP.
I agree 100% with it not being a public vote...it would be too easy to stuff the ballot box so to speak. I'm not sure I agree with the outside marketing agency idea...frankly this contest in my opinion really epitomises what Daniel is about...that is his appreciation for his fans which are close to his heart. I think Daniel and his trusted and close friends should decide from thier gut, as FCP strikes me as being close to his heart.KK
Ya I just dont want it to become a popularity contest and ruin the contest.
I agree. My original account was made on the 23rd of Nov along with like 1/2 of FCP...but I never posted and the acct. went inactive. I feel even though if I were to make the final 3, that I would be at a disatvantage if the two others I was up against were more well-known members. This could go for anybody... it WOULD make it more of a popularity contest than a "which logo would you want to buy on a shirt more" contest. Daniel should just pick teh winner and be done with it :D
I agree... especially since I'm one of many"newbies" around here! :club:

All I can say is "WOW" to all the great submissions.
You basically used my opening line upon viewing this thread which delayed my time for going to bed...fortunately I can sleep in should my body so desire yet at the moment I'm reminded of the line they use in the golf ads, "These guys are good"... Another line I shall use is that I just registered today (and no I'm not a long time lurker) so I missed the registration deadline for this tourney which saved me from having to try and bluff against so many who are playing "the nuts"...making for a tough decision as to which suit one prefers...something which I personally would have to take another look through before reaching a conclusion as to my own preference.I look forward to spending more time wandering the halls of this diverse forum which I am happy to find appears to contain a number of talented and interesting folks mixed in with some who don't appear to be playing the nuts but are playing with theirs...should be an interesting place to spend a bit of time.Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment and say congrats to whomever wins and hope that Daniel decides to change his mind about a heads up match and ops to fill a final table with some of the fine talented folks to be found here...gl to all and g'night.Dave Beareps...I shall also look forward to obtaining a hat and/or shirt to proudly wear from time to time regardless of outcome...hmmm...some chips and/or cards with a lion on them would be kinda cool to have too.

As I am a tattoo artist and extremely computer savy, I have some skills and maybe could have held my own in this contest. Having said that, I haven't been around long enough to come in here and try to capture the spirit of this obviously superior forum. Ill leave that up to the charter members. Great contest, awesome submissions.

First, does anyone know when we hear about who won? Second, there is NO WAY you have to put up your own $500 for the challange matches....but how funny would it be to get flown down there for free, hang out with daniel and all of a sudden, he's like "dude, you brought your 3K, right?" hahahaha.

I've been a fan of Diana Krall (she's a jazz pianist/singer) since she was playing in tiny jazz clubs and it struck me (and probably just me) as she was having a logo contest of her own. These are her 3 finalists. I think they kinda suck and she didn't offer anything like Daniel. And aside form the logo contest, I don't they have anything in common except being accomplished Canadians.RogerKanno_sized.jpgLarry%20Purdy1.jpgJack%20Beeckman1.jpgAnyway, this is just a roundabout way of saying that the quality of FCP contributers is pretty good.

I think it would be good if Daniel picked like the top 5 logos entered he liked and then let the forum members vote for the winner a la American Idol.  Let the public decide the ultimate winner as they will be the ones purchasing the hats, shirts, and jackets to wear.I'm pretty impressed with elkang's logo.  Good stuff!
Man you guys are just too smart! LOL. The plan was to narrow it down to three and then have all of you let me know which one you like best.
People have made a number of comments regarding the selection process, but this is all that Daniel (or anyone in authority) has said about it.So, there will be a group of finalists. 3 is pretty standard - or maybe it's a Canadian thing... And then it is for the forum members to makes their opinions known and communicate that to DN and company. How will this take place? I suggest the following: voting, an independent body, or a moderated discussion.1. Voting is potentially suspect, but I think a poll would work pretty well. Then there is the concerns about popularity. I'm in agreement that the posters here are mature enough to vote with what they think is best, any cliquish groups who vote are probably going to be negated by the majority of posters. If there is some aberration (i.e. hordes of newly registered users ballot stuffing), I expect the moderators to be able to detect it. This is the easiest one to manage.2. Having an independent body decide. The weakness here is that they may not be able to get in touch with the FCP community - so either posts, emails or what-not would be sent to this group. But, a small group can make the decision the quickest with least disruption. The key here is to pick the best people. I would say Daniel, Chris, one other like minded pro and a professional in graphic design/PR/marketing (maybe someone at Wynn - though I'm not too fond of Wynn's web team).3. A moderated discussion, will be the most difficult to manage - especially in choosing an artistic logo. At some point, the moderator will have to make a decision and present his reasons. But, during the discourse, I imagine anything can happen and usually it is a slow process. But, this is the one that gives potentially the most voice. I don't think people want to go this way as we are not a hippy fest forum, but more like a "group of DN poker fans" (whatever that means). For now, there are no set rules yet... so find out what works for you. I have obviously been posting and competing in numerous ways

The top three haven't been picked yet, but the selection process is going on somehwere in between the WSOP, $500K matches and life... ...and then it hits the forum. I imagine we'll have our top three before the end of the week.

I am undecided as to whether having posted your logos already is an advantage or disadvantage (or neither). I submitted 3 logos (my biased opinion is that they are pretty good!) but have opted not to post them for public viewing yet. I guess it depends whether Daniel/the FCP crew is influenced by the preliminary opinions on this thread in choosing the finalists. I would hope not. I think I'm gonna stick with my gut and just wait to see if I am chosen as a finalist without revealing anything.Thoughts?

Thoughts?
Have some fun and post them. It's part of the enjoyment of the contest. Personally, I might be less inclined to vote for someone that didn't post theirs because it would seem they only entered for their own self-interest.

I think its safe to say, you can post your designs without it having an effect on any of the voting. Most competitions are viewed openly for participants to see. However you feel. its up to you.. I can tell you that i've participated in many design competitions, from a finalist at athe world automotive competition and other large events.Decisions at judging time can change drastically. Sometimes the hosts of a competition will simply come out with a final winner, or several. Trying to have everyone vote on the top 3 can be very difficult., With a branded identity for a company or organization, you reeally need to have at least 90% majority for it to be a successful choice.

This is just my opinion...I think the narrowing it down to the top 3 and then having a public vote/discussion....is a sure way to have this become a popularity contest. In my experience in this business it is always better to have fewer and fewer people involved as it is narrowed down.Just like it makes sense to have everybody brainstorm ideas and submit a host of logos in the beginning. It makes sense to have a selection "commitee" to make a final choice. An excellent intermediate step would be to have a large group ie the forum population help in the narrowing down of the selections to 10, 5, or even 3 finalists and have the selection commitee (which frankly in this case could be Daniel and Mushu) make the final decision....remember this IS supposed to be a fun thing. This is exactly why American Idol does the exact opposite...the DO want it to become a popularity contest.very interested in the views of anyone on this....'cause maybe I just don't make any sense......it's happened before :-) thoughts?KK

KK your pretty bang on.we both have experience in these sorts of things, and it would be very difficult to have a winner if its voted on by public. Can you really have a 37% winner over a 33% second, and 29% third? The idea to have the public narrow it down is great!. and then a group to select the winner. or winners (depending on crossing designs)
