LadyGrey 6
Something tells me you're not the only one who hears the word "pirates" and thinks of the "Pirates of the Caribbean Movies." You know, because they both have the word "pirate" in the, and the movies grossed like a billion dollars total and all that.Well, this is what I think of:

chrozzo 19
I heard the press conference that Hilary Clinton was giving on this, and she started laughing inappropriately every time she said the word pirate.I really could not believe that the Secretary of the State would behave like that. Well......I guess I kind of can, but still...could it be that she is just a bitch?

Balloon guy 158
I heard it on the radio, did not see it. And it sounded bad to me. I am not comparing to Bush or anybody else, he had a plethora of speaking gaffes as well. Hilary Clinton has a history of inappropriate laughter, and for someone who is supposed to be our Secretary of State and representing our country in regards to foreign affairs, I hold anyone in that position to a high standard.FWIW I felt that same way when Bush I and Bush II said ridiculous stuff. Bill Clinton, Regan, Condi Rice, etc. would not have done this. It's not a huge deal by any means, I just found in inappropriate. She was probably thinking:"Ha ha, this is the place Bill had his greatest foreign policy 'achievement' and look how it turned out...Man how did I end up being a lackey to two total IDIOT men?" DonkSlayer 1
This whole situation is embarrassing now. Even the French raided the ship that was holding some hostages of theirs, and yeah one died, but they recovered the rest alive and they killed the pirates. They're fcking pirates. Bush II was no braniac, but he would've done something about this, or at least talked a lot tougher than Barack "hey we're talking about housing now" Obama.

I mean, it's even better than I thought! The jealousy must really be brewing up in all the sucky European countries (..and Canada*) who have paid the pirates more than 54 MILLION euros in the past year.* Canada hasn't paid in money, but it's a sucky country: which I'm sure is in a fit of extreme jealousy over our increased awesomeness. Element of surprise and all.Of course, just as I didn't begin to play the blame game, I don't credit this to Obama beyond his approval of the use of force and constant monitoring of the situation via updates. This was a Navy special forces mission that was executed flawlessly, and they're the ones that deserve the credit.

The reason he never made a public statement was anytime a President addresses an issue directly and publicly that issue instantly gains weight and complication. He didn't make any public statements because he didn't want the negotiating party for the pirates to gain any advantage, real or perceived, by his addressing the issue even though he was receiving briefings every couple of hours through the day. The article also stated that he gave the military commanders authority to act if and when they deemed necessary which is exactly how it should be.

Obama handled this particular situation perfectly. Presidents should do a LOT less talking and more behind the scenes acting.
