i don't think I'd sit out but I wouldnt snap raise every hand, maybe mix in a slowroll in or two. Then again I'm never that lucky to have a guy disconnect HU.

edit: I see that some would blind down the opponent just because they think the opponent would do the same to them....maybe so, but I still gotta look at myself in the mirror the next day. There is taking an edge vs just taking advantage. I'd rather take the higher road.
The point is that in playing online poker, you can be expect to be blinded off if you disconnect; it's one of the parameters of the game we are playing. You don't have a problem looking at yourself in the mirror when you bluff someone off of a better hand, because that kind of "taking advantage" is part of the game. The argument here is that being blinded off if you disconnect is part of the game.edit: yay 2000 posts!

If we were playing live and got HU in a MTT, you'd be kind enough to wait for me to go take a leak during play. That's cool, but quite a few players would just ask the dealer to shuffle and deal as fast as possible while I was gone.
Yes, I would...but this argument would apply to when PH had to take a leak in the USPC in the late 90s when one of the players decided to push an edge vs him when he had to pee, however this is due to a players internet going out. Beyond ones control more than holding in a piss for a bit. I don't think 10 minutes is unreasonable. If the opponent decided to blind me out if the outage happened to me, so be it.

Does the amount of money and type of tourney make any difference? The Big Daily is $65 MTT? First has to be in the thousands. Would the people who say they'd sit out and give the player a chance to re-connect do the same thing in a $6 HU turbo sng?

I'm still stuck on the 10 minutes. How does that make it okay for you? I could not find a replacement internet connection or someone to take my place right now - 1AM. And definitely couldn't do it in 10 minutes. To me that 10 minutes sounds like, okay, well I waited, so I am definitely okay with myself, blind away. It's more of a way of feeling better about yourself. Like saying a Hail Mary and your sins are absolved.... I don't go to church any more either.

i'd like to think that the money should have nothing to do with it, it's all about maximizing your equity. i remember a situation like this happening at the FT of a FTP major when bigegypt disconnected HU with the chip lead. a lot of people were calling the other guy an ******* at the time for going after the blinds, but i don't really see any other recourse. that guy did say he was going to ship bigegypt some of the money, i'm not sure how that panned out.

Ok, So I was just heads up in one of the Big Double tourneys on FTP... the guy had me 2-1... and was kinda a dick saying things like "next time you shove I call" etc etc.. He disconnects with 2-1 chip lead.. what do I do??? His disconnect timer went down after like a minute.. am I supposed to wait for him?? What if he wont be back for hours and I have things I could be doing( video games, youporn, etc) I guess i'm not sure what the proper ettiquette is for this because its never happened to me heads up in a tourney before.
Keep shoving and, if he comes back, say, "I knew you were bluffing!"

I think 10 minutes is enough to either go find a live internet signal or find a pinch hitter either by text or by phone.

I agree that the buyin/payoff shouldn't matter. I'd blind someone off in a $6 HU SNG just as fast as HU in a sunday major. However, I would let Snake take an unscheduled bathroom break if we ever got HU in a live MTT since he's good peeps and all. I think that FTP major was the one that Absolute(former poster here, BluffMagChris or something) won and was disqualified for letting Sorel Mizzi take over for him. So would this be considered karmic justice for the player who disconnected and was ultimately awarded first place monies? I'm more inclined to think it was just dumb luck that FTP actually caught someone doing something against the TOC.

I play tournaments to win money, if I felt bad everytime I took advantage of someone in poker I'd have quit after the first hand I ever won.
i was going to make a joke about you letting us know when you won your first hand, but you didn't phrase it in a way that would have made my joke go smoothlysigh

It was a tough decision for me... first got 3900, 2nd 2400.. I did decide to steal his blinds and take the W.. if FTP could have paused the tourney I certainly would have done that.. but we all know how good FTP support is.. I think I agree with Dapper here.. my edge would be greatly reduced if the blinds kept getting higher and higher.. but I would like to make it clear that if there was an option to pause the tourney, I would have done that.

SHIP THE WIN!!!!!CONGRATS!!!!!maybe that's an option that FTP or other sites could add, to choose to pause the tournament if your opponent disconnects. i'm not sure how successful it would be, but it does seem to be a way to reconcile competing influences.

If I knew the dude or if the dude was a known player (and wasn't being an *******) I'd let him come back.If he's some random dude I've never seen, I'd blind him out as fast as I can, especially if he was an as.s

You're playing for money. Blind his face off as much as you can. You can't be sure everyones gonna do it for you so you can't do it for anyone else. It's all about edges.

I'm sure the guy probably doesn't mind because I'm sure he knew he had no chance against you.And I've been in this situation a lot, but never for this kind of cash. I've waited a few minutes, but after that, fair game.

Now this is honest.I pretty much go with this one too.

If this happened to someone we knew in HU after a Rail Call I'm sure half the rail would go nuts at the other player if he started blinding our player off. But, I along with 90% of people would always do it. I have no morals/like free money.

If this guy was an ******* then I'd definitely minraise every hand. If it was someone I knew or maybe a player that I had respect for his game and probably wait a little while. If it was Checky I would raise as fast I can every hand.

Pop quiz, hotshot. There's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?

I agree with JC..If I knew the guy then I would wait. But if the guy is talking shit he got what he deserved. Congrats on the win, I think this whole thing was just a build up to a brag post.

Pretty classless of you to not wait a reasonable amount of time.
Hmm... I hate to be one of those internet police douches, but...
Way to go sand!As far as him disconnecting, I would push as fast as I could. There's a big difference in prize money for 1st and 2nd, and if he's not connected that's his prob, not yours.Well done though, and kudos to you for having a heart :club:
I only bring this up because the couple of times it's happened to me since then, I've always said to myself, "Ray says I should push". Now I'm all confused!Ray, you must be getting nicer as you get older!^^ also, a well concealed brag post about making a ft in 2006.
