tuckermitchell 1
Two questionsI need to buy some more Ram for my comp. It supports up to 4GB of 184 Pin DDR3200 Ram. Why is this old technology but nearly twice as much as new technology?Secondly, over the weekend my 19" Gateway monitor stopped working. I will get no power. Sometime though, when I plug the cord into the actual monitor and wiggle it a little the light around the power button will flash. Is it Effed or can I fix it?

James D 0
I've recently been suffering intermitent slowness on my comp (general web loading times, programs getting 'glitchy' at times, and random annoying slowness)... I've been getting a pop-up telling me that my computer is 'running low on virtual memory', and is in the process of cleaning itself up. But, it obviously doesn't clean it that well, because I keep getting it.Basically, how can I increase this virtual memory permanently... and also, any other general suggestions for speeding up the computer/cleaning it up so it runs more smoothly? Thanks. JubilantLankyLad 1,957
delete anything you don't need from your harddrive (uninstall programs, delete old porn that doesn't do it anymore, etc)run some anti-spyware sw (adaware, spybot)run some anti-virus (avast! is free)defrag your harddrive (how full is it?)if those don't help, don't increase virtual memory, increase real memory - get more RAM. last ditch suggestion - reinstall windows (it happens eventually to everyone)
timwakefield 68
HALP!!! My youtube has gone Japanese or Korean or Chinese or some shit (it actually appears to be in various foreign languages, seriously). Since I don't know how it happened and since I can't read Asian, I can't change it back. HALP!!!!EDIT: I fixed it, but that was goddam gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I don't even really care about youtube it was just annoying me. I mean it was in Korean or some shit, and there were absolutely zero English words (or even just any goddam latin characters in any language) to help me find how to switch it back. checkymcfold 0
so my MCPC was working all lovely until today, when i go to play some final fantasy 9 on my ps1 emulator, and the video goes out on the screen. no problem--that happens sometimes with the psxe emulator, i know, i just restart and all should be well.but no. i restart, the bios flash screen comes up, but then when the vista logon screen is supposed to appear, everything goes blank and the tv loses signal. i can log in by typing my password and the sounds for logging in work just fine, but no video, no matter what i try.i tried rebooting in safe mode, and video works fine there.my tv is connected to my 'puter via HDMI.FIX IT. checkymcfold 0
LOL that was a ****ing obnoxious fix.i had to:reboot in safe mode.delete the display drivers.reboot (the ati graphics driver installer doesn't run in safe mode)using the default display driver and wading through tons of error messages, re-download the drivers and install.reboot, and let the video disappear, same as before.while the video was wonky, change the HDMI connection on my TV, not my computer.realize that the problem was that somehow the ATI default resolution was switched to 640x480, but it didn't send the signal to switch resolutions to my tv, so my tv was trying to display 640x480 data under 1080p.allow the tv to autodetect the signal type after switching HDMI ports.change the resolution back to 1080p manually.switch HDMI ports back to avoid the same problem.reboot.swear profusely and have a beer.all better now. tuckermitchell 1
please help me to get pt3 or HEM to work. My comp hates postgresSQL. I can't even get HEM to work and PT3 is so hit and miss and it's making me seriously LFT. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/114/poke...atabase-205617/What's being said in that first post is exactly my problem, except when I go to the admin tool and look up postgresSQL it isn't even running to stop and restart. when I click start I get this message:"The PostgreSQL 8.3 service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts Service."

psujohn 0
What does everybody think of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9?My mom would only use it for internet, email and standard stuff.I have an ASUS EEEpc which is kinda similar. I'd say if you're never going to travel and/or you type a lot I wouldn't go the netbook route. But I love the EEEpc for what it does and if I were buying today I'd probably get the Dell Mini instead. I use it when I want to surf/bang out a quick e-mail from the couch or when I'm traveling and don't need to do any real work on a PC but would find a quick internet connection useful.
