I disagree with the 50k HORSE event, I don't see how thats lost it's prestige, when it's only been around for ONE YEAR, with a very respectable and respected winner in Chip Reese, seen as one of the best all round poker players in the world. Also, you don't get every website offering 10+ seats to the 50k event, and not every random player will want to play such a mixed game with such a high buy in. ME possibly, but it's still very presitgious, 50k HORSE definitely not.

And I said that the only 2 events that still had prestige were the ME and the $50K HORSE event. You may not respect the winners of the Main Event, but you certainly know their names.

Getting a little off track here?The original question was are the bracelets prestigious anymore. Well, hell yeah, in the sense that they are very difficult to obtain. Even more so these days.Now, does every event determine who is the best poker player? Obviously not. Just the best in that event on any given day. The best players rise to the top over time. We all know who they are.To me the bracelets represent that you somehow managed to outlast all opponents on a certain day, and that is a significant accomplishment. Doesn't necessarily mean you are the best by a long shot, just the guy who made it.And having a bracelet is still a big deal in my book.

I look at it like this, the bracelets are important otherwise why even play in the tourmaments? I mean someone like Daniel or Phil could play in the side games and win more cash then what the tournament pays out.Also, think about it like this...The Yankees and Red Sox play each other throughout the season with one team usually winning a majority of the time. Do they really care about those? Yes, but not as much as beating them in the ALCS (circuit event bracelet/Pennant)When they win the World series they might play a team that they played in inter-league play and beaten them then, but does that matter? NO! They want the ring (ME Bracelet) and the right to be called the CHAMPIONS. I know that if I was ever in Donkey Heaven and win a bracelet I would wear it all the time! Do you know anyone that has won one? Have you seen one in person? Yeah, I think they are still a big deal.

I agree with your point, but I need to be a weenie anyway. Last year's 1500 events payed between 150k and 750k for first. Only two events payed 7 figures for 1st. HORSE and the ME.I probably should never have mentioned prestige as it's not really my main point. Winning a major tourney should always carry prestige. A baseball world series win makes you the seasonal champion for 1 year. A bracelet win in a $1500 NLHE event doesn't mean anything more than a single tourney win on a single day. Much more like a regular season game than a playoff game.

Well, WSOP happens once per year, but bracelets aren't given for winning WSOP. They're given for winning WSOP events (45 times per year). But even if your analogy is apt, NHL players dont get rings or bracelets for winning a playoff game. There's something for conference championship, and of course the stanley cup.

Ok, so let's take it a bit further then and say that each WSOP event, each of which is played once per year (I mean, there is only one Event #21 right?), is actually a whole season, playoff and championship wrapped up in one tourney, one 2-3-4 day event. Come on, you start out 1 of 3000+, every table full of different players, whittled down to bubble boy, now you're in the money(playoffs) and you still have to beat over 100+ players, then you finally end up at the final table (championship) where you still have to beat 8 or 9 other players??? Not at all like a regular season game.But,, you win. A WSOP bracelet sucks...Jsw

Bracelets must still be important if it gets guys like DN, Ivey, etc. to play in $1500 events. Seems like it means a lot to them.

Hellmuth, Jeff Madsen, Mark Vos, Allen Cunningham, Brandon Cantu and Rafe Furst all won sub $2k HE bracelets last year, although to be fair Cunningham's and Hellmuth's both were won in a rebuy event.

I think it's correct that giving bracelets only for the championship events would reduce the entrants for the prelim events and boost the numbers in the championship events. I'm not sure that's a bad thing for poker though it's a bad thing for Harrahs which is why I doubt they'll do it.Remember too that a $1500 buy-in event doesn't happen every day (only regular event at around that size that I know of is Bellagio's Fri/Sat tourney) and a $1500 buy-in event with several hundred (or many more) entrants pretty much only happens at the WSOP. There are a lot of them but they're still a pretty big deal.

Well, that's sort of my whole point. We revere these bracelet winners even though with the exception of what we now call "championship events", the WSOP is just a bunch of mid-buyin tourneys. In the meantime, guys like Lindgren (who won the Aussie millions) somehow gets less respect because he hasn't won a bracelet.BTW, I also couldn't name one winner of an NLHE bracelet event under a 2k buyin from 2006. People remember the main event, and "bulk stats" like how many bracelets Phil has. Years from now, nobody will remember what event was Phil's 11th bracelet.
