those who have run large (70+) home tournaments...
WhiskyRiver replied to WhiskyRiver's topic in General Poker Forum
Thanks for the advice all, I took your advice and did a brief lecture on 1) String Bets 2) Declaring your raise 3) Keeping me informed of people busting out. Another person actually did a mini-tutorial on the basic stuff (min raise, that kind of thing, how to deal) so I didn't have to cover that. The tournament itselt went pretty well. We ended up going about an hour over time, and even at the end of that the blinds were ridiculous. Had a minor problem at the beginning with people who were not me deciding that they should put more chips on the tables without me being notified until right bef -

If any of your players are taking the game seriously, changing the structure mid-way is a pretty bad idea. It's going to affect someone negatively, and you're going to take crap for it.Correct, but if I don't post the structure, how is anyone going to know . Seriously, I understand what you're saying, but it's the lesser of two evils. Either I do what I'm doing, and try to have a structure that SHOULD get us done in time while making sure it's not a total all-in fest, or I make CERTAIN it's done in my time frame, which would make it a definite all-in fest. And if anyone gives me crap, I'll -

The problem with printing the blind structure is I might be changing them mid-way. Like I said, I'm on a short time frame, so I want to hit the perfect spot to allow decent play but also get done in time. -

Good comments so far, there have been some things mentioned I wouldn't have thought of. I'm using Tournament Director, and what I like most is the flexibility. I'm working with some pretty tight time constraints, and no real way of knowing how many are going to show up (just basing it on last year), so TD will allow me to tweak in the middle of the game if need be. -

.......what were some of the complications that came up that you didn't expect? I'm running a charity tournament tonight with possibly 70-80 people. I'm more than comfortable with the basics of running a tournament, but am sure that there will be some things that come up that I won't expect. Any anecdotes? -
Where can you find this torrent? Or any poker torrents for that matter?

Yea, I meant to add that on to my original post: don't ask why I didn't push it, cause I don't know. Thanks for all the input. As I mentioned, even as I clicked the button I didn't think the bet on the turn was a very good idea, I was pretty much thinking fold equity and the fact that if he did have the nuts on the flop, he might not have it now and lay it down. Another question: are implied odds as important in omaha high as I act (play) like they are, i.e. more important than in hold em, or at least more identifiable? There are SOOO many players who will raise pf with A's or K's (and som

dn's wsop circut tunica final table results!
WhiskyRiver replied to Patty74's topic in General Poker Forum
Nice Daniel. I think it's quite telling that the minute you hit the final two tables, I knew, and I'm sure quite a few of us knew, that you'd be taking it down. That's good work. Now keep it up -
I just started playing Omaha and essentially try to play a super tight, playing the nuts or near nuts game. Villian here sits down says "we're about to have some fun and raise the average pot of this table", and he's true to his word. He self-proclaims that he plays the .10/.25 PLO when he's on tilt. Raises EVERYTHING pre-flop, and while he almost always pots as a continuation, is able to lay down a hand. I'd love some advice on how I could have played this different. Oh, and yes, the villian's chip stack is real, and after only about two hours of play. People loved dumping him money.Ultimate

Don't forget to count the outs when you have a feeling. "I just had a feeling" outs are often mis-calcuated, and often amount to five or six outs.

This tell is almost as good as the raise pre-flop, then make the minimum bet. I was playing with a guy the other day who did it over and over again, and capped off the fun by doing it, then calling my raise, then betting the minimum AGAIN on the turn, and instantly folding to my raise.

I'm surprised this thread has gone this far without mentioning Linda Greene's blog:http://table-tango.pokerworks.com/Maybe you were looking for daily updates on all the TP/MM out there (not that the people who replied are), but this is a good read regardless.

Did you only post what happened on the turn and after so we wouldn't see how much of a bet you called on the flop with a straight draw . Teasing. Congrats, what's the payday on these? $1200? $1400?

http://table-tango.pokerworks.com/It's been less poker oriented lately since she's packing up and moving, but a good read. Dealer at Bellagio. She confirms somewhere in those archives that the big stakes don't tip well, in fact, I think she had something going where everytime she DID get a tip, which wasn't often, she'd put it in a charity box or something. Good read, and she dishes on players quite a bit.

I was hoping the only thing in the body of this post was going to be "predictability". Jesse Katsopolis was beyond cool.

Out in 111th, QQ runs into AA. Damn.

How the hell do they determine the table breaks? TWICE I was moved into the big blind right after paying it, and two other times I was moved closer to it. Sucks as a short stack. Hanging out though, barely...

[From CardPlayer]"For the Player who Has (Almost) EverythingThe most coveted prize in poker is a gold bracelet from the World Series of Poker. But with field sizes in the thousands, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to earn one the old-fashioned way. If some of the big-name professionals are still without a bracelet, what hope does a non-Moneymaker amateur have?If you’d like to give the ultimate poker trophy to someone who’s never earned it, head over to Pioneer Loan & Jewelry in Las Vegas. Yes, it’s a pawn shop. And, yes, it has an original 14-karat gold World Series of Poker brac

Why ruin a good poker site with blackjack?
WhiskyRiver replied to Dylan777's topic in General Poker Forum
Wrong. If the donks are spending their money on Blackjack, they have less to give to you. It's -EV all the way around. My first thought was "you're totally right", but thinking about it, do you ever think there will be a lack of money on online poker sites?Regardless, you're right, if anything it's a negative. For the poker site? Excellent idea. -
what hand do you irrationally hate the most?

Aren't most of theses hands that you RATIONALLY hate? I mean, it's pretty rational to hate J4o. Or is EVERYONE being sarcastic?
