  1. I'm writing a book "Papua New Guinea Animism and the Art of Poker"But seriously, if you need help with your mental state, Zen and the art of poker is good. Also good:Art of War (in translation)Tao of Pooh Victoria's Secret catalogue.I've also read a number of sports psych books, some of which were good, but I forget titles.
  2. What they said. It's fine to open bet drawing / marginal hands in late position on the flop against a big field. It's less fine to do it on the turn. It's almost never fine to do it on the river.Don't bluff callers - and yes, betting a mid pair with two, then three, then four, overcards is a stone cold bluff, especially with multiple opponents. Are they really ALL going to have limped with low pairs / low suited connectors / complete trash? You're not really asking how to defend against passive players, but how to attack them. Well, if they really will never ever fold, there's not much you can d
  3. T8s isn't that trashy headsup. If Antonio had Axo (where x<T but not 8) Gus is only as 46-53 dog, which is pretty much a coinflip.Even with two overcards, it's only 40-60, which isn't terrible given the payout structure. Flat payout structures reward gambooling. The only hands Gus really had to worry about were AA-TT, 88, AT, A8 and to a lesser extent 99.I'm chalking this up to an inspired read, and a great understanding of situational play.
  4. Wow! What a new idea!/sarcasmSeriously though, deposit and reload bonuses are lucrative enough to mean that a break even player (at 1/2 or higher) can make about $15,000 a year.Add in a bit of casino whoring, and you're raking it in.
  5. Situation One:Depending on my feel for my opponent, and my own image (I can usually be relied upon for bets, and if people start to notice this, I might take the free card. But basically, default here is BET, and I'd need some solid info to change that. Even if I get check-raised, it's only one more small bet and I've found out a lot about my opponent's hand.Situation Two:There's no "of course" about betting overcards - how many opponents are there in the pot, what do they play like, etc? But let's go with it for now.Again, the default here is BET, and fold to a check-raise, unless the player h
  6. Pre flop - I don't like the re-raise, but that's my style (I prefer KK multiway, because I'm happier with greater variance if people will go all the way with mid pair to build my pot more than headsup). We can assume you had good reason for it though, so it's not a bad play.Flop - I don't think an overpair (except possibly Aces) is worth capping it with. Ultimately you only have one pair here, and that's rarely worth four betting it. I would have raised and called the three bet. Yes I know I'm "wrong" given the hands that people actually had this time, but generally...)Turn - This isn't a ter
  7. My "secret" to avoiding tilt is Sklansky bucks. These are not real dollars. Instead, they are the theoretical dollars you earn by suffering bad beats. For example:I go allin from the SB with AA, the BB calls with 87s, I lose.plugging the numbers in to twodimes (or whatever) I see that I had 80% pot equity (or whatever). My theoretical share of the pot, less what I put in, is earned in sklansky bucks (similarly, when I make bad plays I lose sklansky bucks).Yes, this is a lot of work, but the good news is that after a while, the idea of sklanksy bucks is all you need, not the practise.Seriously.
  8. Implied tilt odds is a JOKE.Yes, I mean that it's a bad idea, unless you're playing for fun. I also mean the the original concept was created for humourous purposes. It's a satire of the way some players justify terrible plays with high-concept ideas terms.Seriously.Implied Tilt Odds (and the converse, Reverse Implied Tilt Odds) are not real poker ideas. If I make a fishy call, the ITO' justifies it - because I am a perfect player.Understand? Now take this concept a step further. If you make a bad play, don't look for excuses like "semi-bluffing", "pot odds", "implied pot odds", or any of that
  9. I look to make my first rebuy as soon as I'm below starting chips, yes, it's probably a good idea to wait until a couple other people have larger stacks, but it doesn't take long. Then I fold trash and push monsters - everyone else is looking to double up, but there's no point looking for coin flips. Seriously, I think the most cost effective way of doing rebuy tournament is trying to coast through the first hour and not be much below original chips + 1st rebuy. Doubling up more than once (the rebuy) is nice but not necessary.I add on unless I would be above average AFTER everyone else has add
  10. Uncheck "don't auto-rate me" or something along tose lines when setting up autorate.www.pokertrackerguide.com - $20, but Iggy and HDub are both very smart, and know PT inside out.
  11. But then, that is what people said a year ago about two monitors and eight tables, and now it's accepted, and I know a few people who are trying to set up a third monitor (to add tables 9-12).I know what you mean though, it struck me as a little crazy. It was done for about an hoir and I definately think it was done for the challenge.I can't find the link to the video right now, but basically, make the nav bar at the bottom of your screen big enough to fit 20 windows. Whenever one starts flashing click on it and make a snap decision. It is truly nuts.
  12. Which is why I would take his bet in a heart beat. If he can turn $1 into 20K in one year playing limit, he shouldn't be posting here everyday. He should be in Vegas.Variance is for losers :PWhy should I be in Vegas? - I don't like live poker as much as online, - I don't want to live in the US, - I don't want to become a big time pro. I can make a comfortable income / supplement to my income, and that's what I'm happy with. Why shouldn't I be posting here? - I play on the internet, so I need to do something to do when I'm bored- I find posting helps my mental attitude, and improves my gameThe
  13. Thanks for that (BTW - why do you think a 50BB rule is bad judgement? It was an effort to speed the process up. I suspect playing higher limits would allow a 100BB rule - which is adeqaute with the willingness to move down)For the record, our assumptions total 218 workdays (of 8 hours * 3 tables)Hell, I've got time to take a couple days a week off. If I allow myself to step up to 3/6 or 5/10, I could probably take the time and money to spend a couple months in Mexico drunk as a drunk thing in drunk land and still win the bet.I think the point has been made.
  14. 1) What he said2) You've got the idea - build up slowly. Find the limit of what you can handle at a lower limit and then step back a table or two and up a limit. When you feel like adding another table again, step down a limit, get used to it, and then move up again. Know your limit - =pPersonally, I struggle with four on my laptop, so I don't do more than three (overlap and trackpad issues). Desktop, I've seen a guy play 20. BUT for most people, 8 is probably a good target. Play basic poker. It's good advice at any time, but especially when you have to make more actions per minute.Trust yo
  15. Does your brain not comprehend the words Expected Value? The idea of playing poker against players playing for a jackpot is genius. Please try to explain to me how you manage to tie your own shoe lace.Ahem. Anyway.1) 50 cents extra rake a hand for bigger pots and worse players? Works for me. 2) Above about 190,000, the 2/4 BBJ tables are +EV. Much like playing dueces wild video poker - yes you need to make a "lucky" hit to actually get the +EV, but in the long run you're getting money from every hand.3) Don't criticise what you can't understand.
