  2. If you think you're drawing to one out (10 ) you should fold. And that wouldn't be a horrible assumption here.
  3. 7 handed, 1-2 NL.Hero is in BB with 8 9 Three limpers, SB completes, BB checks. Pot is $10Flop : K 8 4 SB checks Hero bets $6 Villain raises to $12 Three Folds, Hero? This seemed to be the only capable player at the table, the rest of the people in the hand were just average 1-2 players. He talked about how he used to play 150-300 stud at foxwoods back in the day (pre-rounders) so he knew his poker. The raise seemed a little weak to me, plus I have a pretty good hand anyways, though I wouldn't mind taking this down now, so I re-raised to $35.Thoughts?
  4. You could have made it like 12 or 13, probably would have got the same information.I think a call will gain you some information too though. If he continues to slowplay on the turn, you can check behind to try and get a cheap showdown. If he puts out like an $8.50 value bet, you can assume your beat and move on.
  5. Did you see him at the 2005 USPC?Talk about pissing away a chip lead.
  6. The check min-raise, then shove when re-reraised screams " I have a jack!" to me. I don't think you should have re-raised as much. If you weren't sure whether or not he had a jack, perhaps you should have just called in position and re-evaluated on the turn, instead of playing a huge pot with one pair, and unsure if you have the best hand. This will help you keep the pot small when you have a small hand. I realize that you are now getting over 4 to 1 to make this call, but you need bigger than that if you are drawing to 2 outs, which I believe you are. He may have been tilting and playing
  7. Pick up a book on tournament play. Harrington on Hold 'Em is supposed to be good, though I've never read it. Keep participating in the forum.Put $20 Online and practice on their $1.75 turbo tournaments. This will help you pracitice stealing blinds and antes by targeting medium stacks in the Big blind. I've won a few of these without even playing the cards at all, just looking at people's stacks and stealing preflop when I determine that the person in the big blind cant afford to call a reasonable raise without committing all of his chips. Remember not to do this to the shortstacks or the b
  8. http://philivey.com/phil-ivey-tips.php?learntips=61I think this article is appropriate. Interesting story.
  9. apestyles just eliminated...tracey still holdin strong
  10. Stu Ungar called off $36,000 cash with ten high to win the heads up freeze out he was playing against Monsour Matloubi. Pretty sick.Personally I called a bet in a tourney from a maniac with King high on a double paired board.
  11. UTG vs. BB means UTG cannot check raise.

  13. Yeah shove, obviously no one has a great hand so they probably won't call that big of a raise, but even if you do get called by something like A 10 or 66 all the dead money out there makes it worth it.And your definitely not getting called by 2 people.
  14. Lol Will Ferrellaments....Anyone else can't wait to see Blades of Glory?
  15. Stop thinking like you. (sw)Betting out big when you flop a big hand in order to build a big pot is a very good play and the mark of a skilled player. (See Doyle Brunson, High Stakes Poker Season 2, flops top set of kings on an uncoordinated board against Negreanu, bets pot.) But not all players are capable of this, some have it set in their mind that they have to slowplay a hand this powerful. So it depends on your read of the guy. Is he capable of making this play with such a strong hand or is he a slowplayer? Act accordingly.
  16. I like how you played it post flop, and yes you can fold to a push.
  17. Ditto.I dont think this is KK or AA though, that probably would have pushed pre flop.Doesn't look like TT either since, they probably would have tried to slowplay.I think your up against exactly JJ often enough to make the call on the flop.
  18. I agree either is alright.I would lean to the side of re raising pre flop to like 5, just because I don't want to play it out of position, and this gives you a chance to take it down right now.
  19. Ok maybe folding is a little weak but Q J is an easily dominated hand that can get you into trouble, like in this hand for example. Often you hit a pair and don't know where you stand. If you are experienced and are good with reads you can play hands like this a little easier. But this is like A 10 if you flop an ace. You can avoid these tough decisions by just folding before the flop and waiting for premium hands.
