  1. in all fairness, that was my gf, but i do love bjork, too. my favorite albums are homogenic and vespertine. a lot of the vespertine bonus tracks on whatever version i have are pretty sick remixes.if you like icelandic chicks, try isabella torrini. she's one of my current favorites. like boobs. weak. that's what i was genuinely wondering about.
  2. my dreams are exclusively silent and come in the form of a series of very vivid still images where all dialogue is understood but not actually spoken. i very, very rarely dream about people that actually exist in real life.is that weird? what does it say about me?
  3. against shaniac, that's fine. leading after the first draw is ok, as is c/cing if you want to reduce variance, as is c/ring for sort-of-value. longterm, most of those are fairly equal, so it's mostly metagame and variance concerns that you should be thinking about.c/r after the 2nd draw, don't bet out unless you are pretty sure that you can b/3b.
  4. shitty that it became a crapshoot at the end there, JC, but a hell of a job anyway. congratulations!
  5. my girlfriend would like us to be named "trot nixon's cock," fg. i think it's brilliant.
  6. what?you are aware that that the formation of the formal jewish state under the name israel in the late 40s was a move conducted by the UN (primarily the UK and US), and marked the first time in anything we might call the contemporary era that people not directly involved in the area's conflicts imposed political boundaries on the area, yes? this is documented, like, everywhere. unless you're playing some rhetorical game here, i really have no clue what you're talking about. see above, basically.just to be clear, before the UN partition plan of 1947-48, there were arab states in the region, n
  7. the ironic thing is that it's not really in israel's economic or (to some extent) military interest to make any concessions toward a two-state solution, since the US basically has an open-ended aid policy with them as it stands right now, they're annihilating the media war in the west, and the US will continue to look the other way about their nuclear program so long as they fight the good fight vs. muslim extremists.i know that sounds a bit overly cynical, but it's pretty much the case. while the israeli population might be for concessions leading to peace (they are, as per recent polling), i
  8. i fold after the second draw, and i really don't think that it's especially close. by calling, you're committing yourself to calling with a 5678 on the end if you catch an 8, and that's not going to be good very often. moreover, it's getting capped a lot by decent players after two draws since it's very obvious that you have a seven draw playing it the way you have to this point (which also kills some action if you make your hand). this means that each of the other players needs to be good way less than half the time in order to profitably cap after 2 draws, since you're obviously behind.add t
  9. i don't recall the palestinians having much of a say when the west created israel out of relative thin air.granted, the two groups have basically been fighting for thousands of years over the same general area, but the creation of israel in the 20th century was the first time that outside groups just came in, took a bunch of land, and gave it to one side. if i was a palestinian, i'd be pretty pissed off, too. i mean, land is a big part of what pretty much every war in history has been about in some manner or another, so it's not like their "instigation" lacks precedent.it's going to be pretty
  10. re: the hyphenation of more than two words:i actually discussed this at some length with my advisor (from whom i learned pretty much everything i've ever learned with regard to tightening up my writing) a few years back, and her opinion was that the "rules" would be so contextual that they don't even matter, and thus that the rhetorical value of what you're achieving in so doing is going to outweigh anything you pay grammatically. like, for academic writing, she said that you really shouldn't ever hyphenate more than two words unless you're trying to poke fun at whatever thought you're express
  11. yeah, i think a 24" LCD or LED (the latter uses less energy, but is more expensive, marginally) monitor sounds like exactly what you need. most brands should be fine--i have an acer and samsung and there are pluses to both (the acer is a little less realistic in terms of color, but it's easier to read text on it, fwiw, so i might lean toward a samsung syncmaster series if you'll be using it as a TV as well). as to shipping to HI, i can't really help you as i've only lived in the real world .
  12. if you're going to use your TV as a monitor, i'd make sure that you get 1080p, which corresponds to 1900x1080 resolution when used as a monitor. 1080i and below have many fewer pixels and may drive you nuts if you're used to even 19" monitors for computers.beyond that, pretty much anything will do whatever you want it to do if you get the right cables. if the cables fit right on both ends (including dvi-hdmi converter cables in whichever direction), you should be fine unless the cables are faulty.as to pricing, it kind of depends--you can find 1080p 24"-ish monitors that would work as tvs (wit

  14. you mean the shift key, champ. rush must be giving you some of his medicine.as i've explained before elsewhere, i learned how to type papers with autocorrect in microsoft word, and my blindly ideological rigidity has kept me from learning how to incorporate the shift key into my OMGSUPERFAST typing. like, honestly, it frustrates me to use the thing because it slows me down so much.as to the job, i turned down an offer of management training so that i can follow the ladyfriend to a northern saskatchewan reserve and tutor math to injuns while going back to poker for money come august. women=rake
  15. 2005.specifically, misclicking HU for the ongame sunday major on the flop and pricing myself in, swearing and calling, and binking a ten with K10 vs A7 on a 7 high flop for what soon turned into 15k and my only major win.oh, and once i made two royal flushes at LHE within 7 hands of each other. but i was pretty hammered at the time so i barely remember it.
  16. this is worth commenting on as well, i think, with regard to my previous post.it is a HUGE mental adjustment to go from thinking of poker winnings as a neato sort of side benefit to requiring them in order to pay your bills. like, HUGE. and unless you're amazingly stoic in your approach to finances, poker-related or otherwise, your play is simply going to suffer as a result of trying to make that sort of move prematurely. personally speaking, i never had to quit a game because i felt like i might tilt until i was in the situation where i really needed to log x hands at y winrate in order to wi
  17. i withdrew from stars on june 1, had my money put back into my account sans bonus on june 4, re-withdrew june 5, and still haven't received my check from stars. usually they come in 4 or fewer days.is this a unique situation, or are others experiencing something like this? i wouldn't be fretting about this too much, but i did withdraw a sizeable portion of my bankroll to pay for the remaining summer expenses and a move to far, far away.
  18. bookmarked, thanks! it's about 2 full days to saskatoon, then five hours straight north. it's also worth saying that both of our cats shit like machines, upwards of 5-6 times a day each. hmm, you sure? i know that most human sleeping pills are just benadryl, basically, but i really want to make sure that anything we'd be giving our cats would be 100% safe. you're a veterinarian, right?
  19. goddammit, i whiffed on this .gl guys!
  20. this is kind of what i've been doing for the last couple years, and the short way of responding is that it's really, really not fun. i wasn't playing LHE exclusively (except when i had a special arrangement with, ahem, a bad site ), and basically scouted games of all kinds on all sites to make sure that i had at least a 2-3BB/100 edge (or the plo equivalent) before sitting down. even then, it's a hell of a lot of work. granted, my lifestyle is fairly expensive, and my monthly expenses were closer to 3-4k than what you're looking at, but i had to play and scout games actively for over 60 hours
  21. stfu, and ride your moose back to your igloo.
  22. yeah, it's very interesting--not so much for the actual discussion of specific issues, but rather for the general sort of methodology he employs in doing his little study things. that said, the part about "geniuses" was, like, super enlightening, and i found the arguments he makes for specific points more compelling than in the tipping point and blink.
  23. RCA is generally garbage, fwiw.pretty much everyone should just keep an eye out on dealnews.com and similar sites and order from their links if they see something that fits their specs. right now there are multiple great deals on panasonics listed, for instance, and a lot of them include free shipping.
  24. juries have feelings. justice isn't supposed to have them, though. it's worth saying that i don't necessarily believe that that should be the case or that it shouldn't, but rather that it merely is in terms of how US law (and most legal systems, for that matter) is constructed. one of my best friends is a lawyer and i'm mostly relaying that from him (it surprised me, too, tbh), but i'll see if he can send me some sort of link about it. all i remember from our discussions about it was that he was 110% certain that he was correct on this point, and he did graduate northwestern law, so i'm giving
