Bluff Magazine Replies To "daniel Hates The South"...

Recommended Posts

Based on their reporting of the Tunica Event, I sent the following note to their Editor:Subject "Daniel Hates the South"The whole Negreanu bashing is getting a little old in your Tunica coverage. If you have an issue with the guy, that is your problem, but you're coming off as having a bit of an agenda.-racThis morning I received the following response from their Managing Editor:"I agree with you. I saw the problem last night while reading the coverage. I have emailed our tournament reporter to ask him to stay professional and unbiased.Thank you."I respect the editor's prompt and frank reply. I know that there are a lot of "Bluff Haters" around here, but I like their magazine and web coverage. I believe that even in this instance the reporter was likely just having a little fun and got a bit carried away.

Wow, I just read what he was writing. He was just taking shots at DN. I know that reading his blogs, I get that he doesn't like Tunica, but it's not a shot at the people...it's a shot at a lot more that even locals know are problems with the location, food and service.

I really despise this rag of a magazine. copy/paste what the reporter said? After last years TV coverage, I can understand how many people in the south aren't big fans of DN. Canadians doing a southern accent usually sounds condescending. I just think it was Daniel being himself.

Click the 'Bluff' link in the day 3 WPT thread and read their comments there if they haven't edited them yet.It was getting pretty brutal IMO. just horribly unprofessional. At least they responded with somewhat of an apologee.

Doesn't it really boil down to this: Truth hurts. The USA is most obese nation in the world. Anyone who hasn't seen Super Size Me should do so immediately to find out who's shovelling what crap into their gullets. I love fried food as much as anyone (well, maybe not anyone, but I love it), but I try to eat healthier alternatives, so I've cut out a lot of fried food. I feel less greasy for it.

Apparently the reporter is a local and is offended by the fact that I don't like the food. I am going to talk to him privately today to explain that I like the people, I just HATE the food. Also, that I don't mind him blogging what I say, but to come up with the idea that I'm an anti-Southernite is going too far.

I find this whole discussion quite humorous, and I couldn't agree more with what Mercury said. Has anyone else actually spent time in Tunica? I lived in Memphis for 5 years after moving from New York, and I can assure, most if not all of what Daniel is saying is 100% accurate. And if the Bluff guys want to get on him a little for it, so be it. He's a big boy, he can take care of himself (see Raymer debate). You guys are really taking things too far this time. What's next, are you gonna challenge the Bluff guys to a fight because they didn't call Danny the bestest ever?Negreanu is by far my favorite player. I enjoy watching him play more than any other player. But can't we also find some humor in the stuff Bluff was writing? Just my .02 (which is the median income for anyone not working a casino job in Tunica, MS)

Its all about manufactured controversy, Daniel. The magazine is trying to make a name for itself with sensationalism and 3rd rate reporters. The magazine is absolute garbage.

I have been to Tunica a few times, and being from "The South", I agree with DN. The food options are terrible, basically related to the area. Lake Charles, you get alot of cajun options. I agree casino resorts need a bit of variety on their menus. I realize that these casinos are trying to get the "local flavor" to make them different from every other casino in the nation. The people are nice, but for those who require special diets, it is a hell hole. You can only have so many Subway meals.

You take that back. Their "Girls of Poker 06 Bikini Edition" was one of the best ever. (Except KFL)

Here is some hurtful truth...The advocacy group, Trust for America's Health, said data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that the percentage of obese adults for 2002-04 stood at 22.7% nationally.Canadian Obesity rate is 23%, according to Statistics Canadahttp://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/050706/d050706a.htm...Mississippi does lead the US @ nearly 29%

This does'nt mean anything at all, data collection could be completely different you cannot compare stats from 02-04 from the CDC to stats Canada data from ? The definition, of obese could be different could be using BMI, BSA or another measure which all have their flaws. To randomly show 2 percentages not from the same studies does'nt validate anything. I don't know for sure But I would think that the US obesity rate is very high compared to other countries with similar socioeconomic averages. I dont think Canada is as high but I don't think they are at the top of the list for healthiest either.

lol............kidding right? Not sure if your joking, but that statement would be true due to the larger population, but the chineese diet has so much rice and veggie based that I dont think the percentages could be higher that the US

Then why does the same website that list the Canadian Obesity rate says:"Even so, Canada's adult obesity rate was significantly lower than that in the United States. While 23% of Canadian adults were obese in 2004, the rate was nearly 30% south of the border""With the measured data from the 2004 CCHS, it is possible to compare the current prevalence of obesity in the two countries. Age-standardized results show that 30% of Americans aged 18 or older were obese in 1999/2002, significantly above the Canadian rate of 23%. Most of this difference was attributable to the situation among women. While 23% of Canadian women were obese, the figure for American women was 33%."Also, please don't believe anything you read from "Trust for America's Health;" they have their own agenda. Also, the data they said they got from the CDC was false:" What is the prevalence of overweight and obesity among U.S. adults? Results of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 1999–2002 indicate that the following percentages of U.S. adults are overweight or obese:An estimated 30 percent of U.S. adults aged 20 years and older - over 60 million people - are obese, defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher."http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/faq.htmFrom not fat American.

No, but it is MUCH more fact based than a statement like "US obesity rate is very high compared to other countries with similar socioeconomic averages" or "The USA is most obese nation in the world"The “Health Profile of England” report quoted figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) showing that adult obesity rates in Britain were the highest in Europe at 24 percent. It is remarkably difficult to find any sort of real statistics regarding international comparisons of Obesity Rates. This leads to assumptions, speculation, prejudice, and innuendo.

Quoted from the StatsCan report: "Even so, Canada's adult obesity rate was significantly lower than that in the United States. While 23% of Canadian adults were obese in 2004, the rate was nearly 30% south of the border."Not sure who to believe anymore, but here's a link to an interactive map for the USA from the Trust for America's site:http://www.rwjf.org/files/newsroom/interactives/fat1.htmlApparently, fat sinks to the bottom. I'm not sure where the 22.7% obesity rate comes from, given that at least 14 states, some of them extremely populous, have a rate of 25% or more, while only 8 of the remaining 36 states have a rating of 15-20% (28 are rated at 20-25%). That tips the scales in favor of the larger % quoted by StatsCan.Anyway, this debate is heavy with fat joke options. Weighty issues indeed.
