Ok To Watch For Anticipated Call In Limit Games?

Recommended Posts

this situation seems to come up quite often, anything wrong with it?live game, (say) $4/8 limitI raise P/F. several callers.I miss the flop and bet, one caller.caller checks, I bet the turn, get called.caller checks the river, i grab 8 chips, (still behind the betting line), see the caller grab his chips to call, so I change my mind and decide to check. He opens, beats me, and I muck. He complains that I was cheating - anything wrong with watching for him to grab his chips to call?

the way people handle their chips is perhaps the most important tell that anyone can potentially pick up when playing live. If you can use it your advantage, without breaking the rules of crossing the betting line, then you'd be a fool to ignore this advantage.

you should let him know your intentions clearly.like "I'm going for a check raise" would be one exampleit's only fair.
lol. There's a guy at the casino here, called Fast Eddie, some old man, hilarious, and nice guy, anyways, every time he checks, he says "check-raise"... it's pretty funny.

What about when there are other people in the hand. You have a decent made hand in limit on the river. EP bets, you're in MP considering a call and notice LP grab chip. Legit right? Now what about this - actually happened in a "friendly" home tourney - NL. 3 handed. Short stack button pushes, you're in the SB contemplating a call with something like AT. BB moves cards forward like she's going to muck them. I don't think you do anything wrong by choosing to use that info (if you believe it or think it's a false tell) but is BB acting unethically - she admits she did it intentionally.

Frankly I don't think there's anything unethical in poker. If it's not against the rules it's fair game. Acting like you're gonna fold your cards sounds like a great false tell to use. I may have to try it myself sometime.
