Kurtman213 0
How can they make online gambling illegal is places like Las Vegas, that live gambling is allowed?? Another thing that pisses me off, is that the government worries about online gaming, yet businesses like Girls Gone Wild, which basically takes advantage of young drunk girls gets overlooked, because I'm guessing the government gets its cut from that. fatman 1
From the Times, UK newspaper. Here is the link for the entire story...http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13129-2384407,00.htmlGambling online faces collapse in US after Senate banBy Dominic WalshAMERICA’s $6 billion (£3.2 billion) internet gambling industry is facing meltdown after the US Senate pushed through a Bill at the weekend outlawing the processing of bets by banks and credit companies. The surprise move, which is expected to spark a massive share sell-off, will prompt London-listed 888 Holdings to announce this morning that it is halting its entire US-facing operation, accounting for half its business.*PartyGaming, the world’s biggest internet gambling company, said last night that it was “still evaluating the situation”, although industry sources believe it will also announce a cessation of its services to American punters. qyayqi 11
if some people have declared online poker income & had the government not refuse their slice of said profits, could they not mount a class action suit against the government for ruining their livelihoods? iggymcfly 0
if some people have declared online poker income & had the government not refuse their slice of said profits, could they not mount a class action suit against the government for ruining their livelihoods? No. The government certainly has the power to regulate gambling. The only way this gets overturned is if the public starts voting for Congresspeople that care about personal liberties more than pandering to the religious right.

AK33 0
not sure if I understand everything here. Are we still able to cash out untill the bill is signed?According to what I've read, institutions have 270 days to come with regulatory measures to accomodate this bill. I would imagine that you have that much time to pull your funds if this sticks.
erac22 0
I don't see what this bill will do. There are 8 bajillion different payment options that don't include transferring money from US banks to online gaming sites. There's no way the govt. can stop you from bringing money offshore, (ie putting it on neteller) and once it's offshore, you can do whatever you want with it? I've never transferred from my bank account or credit card to a gaming site. How is the government going to regulate your money if it's offshore?
hblask 1
Somebody who is making a living off poker should contact the Institue for Justice (www.ij.org) and see if they will take the case. They have had a lot of success with winning cases in which the government was unfairly limiting people's ability to make a living when the laws unfairly target specific market segments. Any takers? hblask 1
why would the poker sites move to US soil and pay taxes, they are perfectly happy where they are.Because being located in the US would make the US legal system available to US players, which is a HUGE competitive advantage. If I have a choice of leaving thousands of dollars with someone who I can take to court easily if they try to screw me, or leaving thousands of dollars with someone who is beyond the reach of any laws affecting me, which do you think I'll take? Also, if the big Vegas casinos would get in the act, think of the tie-ins they could have with their B&M business.Back to the original topic: Online poker is legal in the UK now, and soon in Italy (if not already). The US has alreadylost a WTO dispute on this issue, but ignored it because only small countries like Antigua were affected, and littlecountries like that have no leverage. What is Italy and England sued and won? Doesn't seem like the US couldignore that one.....

I think that cardplayer article said that 80 percent of online gamblers are not america. So just find a site with lots of dumb swedes. Still, I don't see the problem.
