anyone ever notice this in live play

I was playing 2 5 NL at Trumps with a friend of mine who is probably a lot better than me. He did nothing tonight but turn over winners and yet he was still getting tons of not only action but passive action. He took 200 dollars and built it up to 1500 and still got amazing action. The usual preflop bet was about 25 dollars, with maybe three people seeing the flop. He raised to 35 like 6 times and got at least 5 sometimes 7 callers. Amazingly enough he hit on practically every one. No one ever raised (well credibly there are the morons who despite the fact that he turned over nothing but winners kept trying to bluff). When I play - I don't want to play against that guy. I'd also rather play a hand against a shorter stack because they can't just throw an obscene amout of cash out there and dare you to call, but it really appears that they were like I'm gonna hit that big stack huge. You can tell when someone reckless and out of control has built a stack and you know its gonna disappear, but why take on a guy who has done nothing but turn over winners that were obviously well played? Maybe it's the alcohol. Also, and if you hate my amazement at hearing really stupid things at a poker table stop reading. 2 5 NLRaise to 15ReRaise to 160 all inRe Re Raise to 300guy says I really really want to call with 5 5 finally foldsanother guy says - You've got a big stack you've got to throw that money in there with that! You've got huge pot odds. He then goes on to say that people always play like the book and the books are wrong. Then again the river was a 5 so maybe he was right.

Just a typical night of casino poker. This is nothing unusual, the players are THAT bad.I would play NL games in the area casinos, but the blind structures are just brutal. The 2/5 NL has a max buy-in of $200, right? How much do they charge for time?

I have the exact opposite situation. I play regularly at a B&M and I have a reputation of being a rock, which is completely unfounded as I bluff a lot, but it pays me because nobody ever wants to call my big raises. Funny thing is I've been caught a few times (not many) making $50+ bets on the river with nothing, but people still think I'm a rock because I usually have a strong hand when it comes to a showdown. My problem is that with this reputation I've found it hard to get a lot of action. Even when I try to change it up by checking the river with a nut straight against a guy who's been aggresively betting into me the whole time, he checks too. It's nuts, but it has been good for making some money by stealing blinds and some smaller pots.I think I'm going to have to start showing my bluffs from time to time to shake this reputation. Grinding out $100 for the night has gotten to be very boring. Call me greedy or whatever, but...

I actually like capped buyins at B&M's because I think it helps gamblers feel like they aren't peeing it all away on one buyin. My favorite cardroom spreads 1/2 NL with a max $100 buyin and the money flooooooooooows.

Just shows you there are different strokes for different folks. When I play NL cash games I only want to play pots w/ the big stack. OK, not only, but I do go out of my way to sit to the left of the biggest stack at the table and take flops w/ him all night long. I've only got to hit one set, or small flush or straight to double up. I love playing againgst the big stack who only shows down quality hands...And I also agree w/ Hoosier, that the time charge at the Trump makes it a worthless game. I'll take the 5/10 Omaha game at Resorts any day of the week.

2/5 with a $200 max? Who dreams up these games? If there is a raise and a reraise you need to push to make close to a pot size bet on the flop......yuck.NYC clubs and AC casinos are usually $300 to $500 max for 1/2 and $500 to $1000 for 2/5. 5/5 and up No Cap. How can you play NLH without 100 big blinds?

Well, there are 10 people at a table. Every player is dealt 2 cards faced down, and the two players to the left of the dealer put out forced bets which are called "blinds". And then...

You should say you have nothing and throw your hand in the muck so they can't see the real strength of your hand. It will pay you off later when you check on the river with another monster and he bets out trying to steal it.

This is how commerce and the bike are. 2/5 nl 200 buy in. 2/3 nl, 100 buy in, pretty retarded. It's wait for a hand and push poker.

I would, but typically the pot is already at $40 or $50. Call me greedy, but when I have the hand won, and I'm picking up $25 for the win, it would be really hard to muck. Yes, I know it'll pay off later, but man, that'd be real hard to swallow! :club:

B&M poker is quite bizarre. I've been playing ultra tight, yet I got reraised post flop after I led out. I looked him up and he had a marginal hand after I went all-in.

I got a solution... How about really bluff and show your hand?
That's what I said in my original post. I've always been one of those guys who doesn't like to stir the emotional pot too much. I like to play my hands quietly and pull my pots without showing. I always looked at the guys who like to show their bluffs as jerks who were just rubbing it in, but now I think I'm going to have to do this in order to shake the rock reputation.Unless someone knows of a great way to capitalize on a rock reputation other than showing bluffs? Again, I don't necessarily mind grinding for 5 hours when I make $100 or so for the night, but it's getting kind of boring and I'd like to find a way to get more action when I play. Is the occasional show the only way?

Tight players will get played back at often as they tend to be tight after the flop as well. Meaning regardless of how strong their hand was to enter the pot their hand needs to be strong compared to the board to play on and after the flop. I love raising the weak tighties lead bets and watching them glare at the overcard or the str8 or flush possibility while they muck. I will invariably raise a tight aggressive player early in a game to find out how big the guys balls are who has folded his first 15 hands. This may be what you have experienced....you found the only defense...look him up.

i love playing in the 2/5 NL at trump. the game is so soft it's not even funny. the key to winning at that game is to see lots of flops and pick up small pots w/3-5 limpers or so. then if you can win a lot of small pots and one or two big ones, you can push people around. aggression is key. bet bet bet.

This isn't a casino. It's a local card room where the same 50 or 60 guys frequent regularly.
