playing with chips during online play

Recommended Posts

Just curious, does anybody else play with chips when they are playing online? About a year ago I found myself totally infatuated with doing chip tricks and now, whenever I play online, I can't stop playing with a stack of chips. My roomates were totally pissed at it because when I play poker during the day, all they heard was my music and the slight ruffling of chips. I think playing with a stack of chips not only calms me when I take a bad beat, but also keeps me focused on the fact that I am playing with real money, even though a click of the button loses or wins me 50 bucks. I have since moved on to doing chip tricks that don't involve the shuffling and clinking of chips (Roomates lodged a complaint against me :-)) but I was just curious to see if anybody else has gotten into this habit. In addition to this, does anybody have any other habit that they do when they play online poker? Maybe a medalion that they keep next to them, like you see in the B&M games? Am I just a wierd guy that has a wierd habit?

i do the EXACT same thing, shuffle chips in my right hand while waiting for good hands, repeatedly. in fact, it's become such an addiction that i do it constantly whenever i'm doing anything on the computer. it annoys the hell out of my girlfriend, haha.aseem

I find it helpful to envision myself pushing chips into the middle of the pot, and seeing if it feels right to bet at that time. Sometimes as i'm pushing chips in, I think, "Huh, I think he has me beat, I shouldn't be betting". Except online, those chips aren't in the middle until i click. I know it sounds kinda stupid, but it has saved me some money.

Dude, thats not stupid at all, it's sometimes good to weigh out what you are actually betting, keeps you from making dumb mistakes.

I got into chips last summer, after my girlfriend and I broke up, I took it pretty rough, like 2 years of my life down the drain, I stayed in a lot, and the chip tricks were like stress releif.I've since gotten really good, I have 18 chips, from different casinos in vegas and mexico. I've learned to shuffle almost flawlessly, I can roll them across my knuckles, I can do the one with 3, where you drop down the middle one and spin it, then put it back in place. It keeps me calm, and annoys my roomate. I enjoy it

Your not weird, I do the exact same thing. I got into the habit of doing chip tricks when I'm at a BnM just to release nervous energy and now whenever I play online, I open up my chip case grab a stack and just keep doing tricks. Another quirk I have is to wear basically the same thing whenever I play online. I don't know if its a mental thing, but if I'm not wearing the same sweatshirt and jogging pants, things don't seem to go as well. My gf, thinks I'm insane, but hey if it works, why change?

Hell, I've gotten to the point where I take poker chips to work. I work the door at a bar in town, and find myself oftentimes bringing a few chips with me. Front to back, Chip Twirl, shit like that just to pass the time as I sit there waiting for people to come in. Plus, it's a job that only takes 1 hand most of the time. Take ID, look at ID, hand ID back to person, repeat, so the other hand is free to play with the chips. Gives me something to do for 4 hours. Playing online, no doubt I've got a stack in front of me.To me, it's relaxing, sort of the way some people use those small metal meditation balls that you rotate in circles in your hand that make the really annoying sound when you let them knock into each other.. It's like that.

sometimes, not all the time, mostly i just eat & smoke cigs while i play online :D
Yeah, from what I hear from lots of people I know, the thread poster isn't weird at all. That's supposed to be quite normal. I'm kinda like AceOfSpaiDs though. I basically just smoke and whatnot, like a chimney. I didnt play ANY live until I'd already played a lot online, and while I do have a set of chips like 5 feet behind me in the corner, I just never got into the habit of doing any chiptricks or riffling them.Maybe I'll have to so I can look "cool" when I do more live. :)And I know that's not why most of you do it, I'm just saying that's why I'd _start_ doing it, hah.

I'm also a chronic chip tricker (word?), anyways, I find a need to do something when I'm playing online, but more times than not, the chips are out in the car, and I have to just shuffle or play with whatever is accessible. More often than not, this will be the beer caps sitting on the computer desk. As depressing as that sounds, it's actually quite challenging, it takes my mind off donating all my money away.

I do this as well. Funny thing is I am better at shuffling chips with my left hand than I am with my right hand - and I am a righty. It's because I am using my mouse / keyboard with my right hand while playing online and always handle my chips with my left hand.

I dont necessarily shuffle chips while playin online because i dont own my own set. But i am a pretty addicted shuffler, i will often find myself shuffling anything from coasters to quarters.

I have to start doing that, I hate stopping my shuffling when im in a groove just to click the mouse to call. I shuffle and do tricks the whole time im playing online and I also do chip tricks all day at work. Cingular during the weekdays gets boring. Im actually shuffling chips at work right now!!
