20 year olds in b&m??

Recommended Posts

I was at the Trop tonight in AC and I came across a strange thing. Well atleast to me it was strange. 2 guys and 1 girl come to my 2/4 table and sit down. The one guy has about $175 in chips and the others are not far behind. We get into a conversation and he tells me in confidence that they are all 20. I do not really believe it, I thought it was more of an act then anything. However, during a little break he shows me his ID and I couldn't believe it. Is this a common thing? I didn't even try this when I was younger. Cheers, Joe

That's not new, I played with Phil Ivey there for years--he was younger than 20. BTW, he made some good money on the 2 center tables in the high room on the left, playing $15 and $30-$60 stud -- if you want a lucky seat to start your million $ bankroll!

Lol, the Trop poker room has a sign that says anyone under 28 must show ID before putting your name down on the list, which is complete BS because I've never seen it done even once. They don't care as long as you don't LOOK underage. Unfortunately I have one friend who looks all of 15 and he gets carded at least 3 times everytime we goto the Trop.

ive been 21 for like a decade or so and i still get carded for beer, i must look like i like 12 year old boys or something
Fixed your post DNA :club: Yeah Phil Ivey learned the game by dominating the mid-level stud games wwhile underage under the fake ID name of "Jerome" and then dumping it to H. Orenstein and the big game in AC.....bad bankroll mgmt. perhaps but he obviously learned what he needed to.

Same here, I just went to a bar last night, pulled out some money to pay the cover, and the bouncer asked for ID.

Why would a casino do any more than the bare minimum to keep under age kids away? Do you really think casinos enjoy kicking minors out? Casinos have to teach their employees how to look for underage players, spot fake IDs and the like. But you better believe that they don't encourage their employees to bust kids.It doesn't matter how old someone playing at a B&M, they are still giving the rake to the house. Why would a casino enforce "no minors" when they would lose the rake??J

Maybe because if an underage person is caught in there they could lose there gaming license?

There would have to a whole lot more that one incident for them to lose their gaming license.Just like with underage drinking in a college town, everyone tends to look the other way.....which is the right idea IMO.

I've played at the Sands, Bally's, and the Borgata, and I'm 19. I just don't shave for a couple days before I go, and where sunglasses and a really queer pair of plaid shorts. I've gotten carded, but just say it's in my car, leave, and come back later. No one is really looking to screw you. they're just lookin out for their own asses.

Andersun,The Gaming Board would have to PROVE a culture of rule breaking and encouraging minors to enter their casinos. They would have to PROVE that they knowingly turned a profit while catering to minors.Won't. Ever. Happen.Enjoy your Friday.

Underagers in the casino? KILL THEM ALL!Hey, the more the merrier...especially is they suck at cards!Best...
Yeah except from my experience at the Borgata especially, it is the underage players you should look out for at the 3/6 tables. They know what they are doing but cannot afford to play any higher. The others in the 3/6 game usually blow.My friends and I made all our beer money playing 3/6 senior year at Penn. Good times.

underage players dont usually suck at cards, everytime i go to a casino i make an effort to play with the 30+ crowd because i find they are more likely to "gamble it up"

im in the underage crowd that plays live and well... Honestly i've played with 2 maybe 3 others that were good... the rest were too aggresive, or too tight, and straight up donkeys.

in my experience they are too loose and aggressive or too tight but still aggressive wheras with the right selection of elders you get loose calling stations, much more to my preference

I said "IF" they suck at cards. Indeed, some of these folks are pretty good...some. You can usually tell after just a few hands who's got their sh1t together. Best...

I will agree that there are some 30 somethings and older who will just gamble, but my experience leans towards the younger players not knowing what they're doing. Like last week in Vegas, I specifically sought out tables with 20 somethings in the game. The MGM is the best place of all. I had heard about all the TPTK pros there at the 1/2 and 2/5 NL tables with their backwards hats and sunglasses. Oddly, I found myself at a table with 8 of them, all in college, all with backwards ballcaps and sunglasses. Needless to say I made a little over $1200 in about 4 hours. I've spent on average 1 week per calendar month in Vegas this year and I'd rather sit with a table of 20 somethings than anyone over the age of 30. The good ones, you know who they are and you can avoid them. They're the ones without the hood or glasses, folding when they know their beat and controlling pot odds. I think I saw 2 of them all of last week.
