well, I think we can resonable tell who works in the service industry and who does not around here.
I don't work in the service industry, I still take very good care of those that do.I think we can tell here who has class, and who is either a crusty old scumbag or a 20 year old kid that doesn't leave the house and plays on the internet or in his buddy's basement.

thats pretty funny. I really honestly believe you to, no really I do. I tip just fine when the service provided is deserving of such a tip. You and your other crownies in this thread + your attitudes would not warrant such a tip. More of a luaghing at more than anything just to get under your skin that much more.

Just to clarify, I am a 20-year old who plays poker in his Mom's house. And I always leave at least 20% if not more. And I would if I won the WSOP.Booh-yah.

How long have they been taking a rake from the entry fee's (i.e. what year did they start doing this, did they when Doyle or Chan won?) The entire payout structure for the Main Event was screwed up, 3rd place paid the same this year as last. There was an increase of over 50% of players and yet 1st place only increased by 33%. If the payouts were the way they should have been and a player recieved $10,000 for finishing in 560th place is he required to leave a tip when he is only even money and having already contributed to the 3% rake?I don't think that a tip of $50,000 on top of a rake the exceeds 1.6 million would even be that much of a pay increase for the dealers anyway. Tipping on top of already having money from the prize pool taken out is not to be expected, it is to be appreciated, and it is not required!!! Would I have tipped more? I don't know it all depends on how well the event was ran, were the dealers and floor staff good, how were the facilities, ect.ect.ect. but I would love to be in the situation where other people are bitching about what I am doing with my 7.5 million!!!

Everyone who is defending this guy is a cheap censored and I would love to meet you face to face so I can slap the censored out of you.
Yeah, there's the way to get tips in the future. Slap the customers in the face. Sounds like you have a little bias there, hey PokerDealer?

Think about e verything else that he is going to benefit from this and then realize precisely why I would hook up the beautiful people that made this happen for me.
What are you talking about? The "beautiful people who made this happen for me"? All they did was organize a tournament (which they got paid handsomely for, by the way) and the dealers dealt the cards. If you won the tournament, how did THEY make that happen? You plopped down your $10k just like everyone else, and the casino got their cut to accomodate you at a table. YOU played your cards and won the tournament. It seems to me that you give the organizers and staff a little too much credit for what has happened there. You speak as if they did it for free.

The reason tipping exists is because it is a known fact that service industry wages are pathetic and need to be bolstered. Really? T-o I-nsure P-roper S-ervice. Otherwise known as tips. Restaurant wages are not pathetic, the waitstaff is payed a wage and depending on what state it is anywhere from 2.00 to 7.00 an hour plus tips. If anybody actually read my very first post ever I never made a correlation between a restaurant tip and what should be done here. Never said that. All I said is what I WOULD HAVE DONE. Of course that stems from working for tips, because what goes around truly comes around. You guys are truly missing the point here. It is a situation where a person can do two things- he can either reach into his now very deep pockets or he can be an ass. One person earlier mentioned that he had left a tip but took it back after his friends pulled him aside. I can already imagine what was said to make him change his mind.( Dude, dealers already got 2% leaving them more would not be very +EV) Large partys have done this to me as well, when a 15% gratuity is added and a person wants to bump it up to 20% the persons that are usually the broke asses that are not even paying point out that 15% is already added. Sometimes the person paying says, "Yes, but he really took care of us and I would like to leave him 20%." Other times they do the opposite- Which group do you think I personally consider has more class? Seriously, there is alot of money here no doubt- but it is not like that is it for the guy. Think about e verything else that he is going to benefit from this and then realize precisely why I would hook up the beautiful people that made this happen for me.
I have to totally disagree ... TIPS are not To Insure Proper Service ...Tips are a reward for excellent service. It is "your" (not you personally) job To Insure Proper Service. I typically tip very well because I typically get very good service. I ussually tip in the area of 20%, and they don't have to do much to get that. If I get bad service I tip less, rarely none at all, but if I am forced to tip that is all you get unless something extaordinary happens. The service Industry is out of contol at times with tips ... when the cashier at the mall food joint expects a tip things have gone to far ...Enough of a rant flame away

Back in Benny's day and later in the Jack Binion years there was a fee for every event except the main event. The buy-in's would be something like $2000+$200 and the $200 went to the house (no dealer percentage). But the main event was rake free and the house made nothing (other than publicity and table game revenue). The payouts were very screwy this year, and last year too. They decided on a number of goals for the payouts: they wanted to pay 10% of the field, the lowest payout would be 12,500, and every final table finisher would get a million dollars. That was how the structure was set.Look at the numbers, Moneymaker got 2.5 mil. the following year the field tripled and Raymer only got 2x what moneymaker got at 5mil. Than the field is 2.5 times the size of the previous year and Hachem gets only 1.5x what Raymer did at 7.5mil. The people who really made out are the people who finish in the 20's and 30's getting $250,000 for a 35th place finish is tasty.

When you go to a restaurant that adds the 15% gratuity on to the bill, do you give any extra or just pay the 15% on the check?I wouldnt leave any extra if I was Hachem, the tournament staff did just fine with their 2%.
Yeah, I would expect something like this from someone who chooses to reside in ALBEUCUERQE.
Why are all of you people blasting this guy for not giving more? It's HIS freakin money! He won it, fair and square. He does not have to give a nickel more than was already taken. You are all just bitchin' because of the amount he won, as if the staff had anything to do with that. They ran the tournament, they got paid very well to run the tournament, and now he has to give them more money? You people are incredible! How about he be required to give all of the people who finished out of the money their $10k back? Hey, they are down money for the event and are actually the ones responsible for him winning the 7.5 mil. The dealers didn't contribute anything to that prize pool, nor did the tournament organizers. So why are the other players who actually made this guy a multi-millionaire not being considered here? While we're at it, why don't we require him to give a cut to every player he's ever played with? After all, isn't because of them that he gained the poker knowledge that led him to his win?I think it's incredible how you think he is a low-life for not giving anything to the staff. They had nothing to do with him winning. It's all about how much he won and how the staff being a part of that should get some. It's pure jealousy, that's all.

Perhaps you might consider there is a cultural difference. In Australia, we do not tip. Period. We go to a restaurant and the bill is $23.45, we pay $23.45.
Sorry to bring back an past thread, but this guy did forget to mention that minimum wage in AUS is like $15/hr. Service employees DONT expect a tip.

mmm real life threats from a bitter dealer. Id love it. where do you deal btw, I want to come sit at your table and laugh at you everytime i win a pot and you have to sit there tipless and smile.
Believe me man, I'm not bitter at all, I tipped well before I was a dealer, just because I appreciate service. I just couldn't believe that people are actually saying if they won 7.4 MILLION dollars they would leave nothing.

yes class in society is all about tipping. if i call a waiter a retard and berate him everytime he comes by to serve, makin his night suck, and then leave him a 30% tip i obviously have so much more class then a guy who treats others with respect but "doesn't leave enough". its just ignorant to try and think this shows less class. raymer had great class because of how he treated and still treats his fellow players and fans, and yes, his tip was generous, but didn't define him as a classy person. hachem won his money, was very very grateful for it and thats that. to say it shows a difference in the level of class is a retarded thing to say.

Where do you get that Hachem was grateful for winning his money? To me a single one hundred dollar bill doesnt seem grateful to me.

I would feel ashamed of myself if I were to throw down a tip of this size: .00133% which is what he did...
This whole thing sounds like a lame rumor started by haters. Where did you come by this info?

the fact that he said "THANK YOU AMERICA" right after he won. why the hell does he have to attach a monetary figure to be grateful?

I find it funny that players are expected to tip in a casino -- as if the casino doesn't make enough to pay dealers a higher wage. In my opinion, it's the casino/WSOP folks who should be blamed if the staff was undercompensated for their work. Lord knows they made a bundle on this operation. As for the winner, it's his choice and frankly I admire him for being able to resist the uncomfortable pressure to throw tens of thousands of dollars away on a tip.

no doubt. a town built on gambling that takes more tourists' money then probably any city in the US brings in 5600 players, makes them pony up 10K+, takes 3% and more, and then puts its' hands out when the players are ready to go.

If he didn't, the guy shoulda tipped at least $50k to $75k. Its peanuts to him at this point. Raymer is a complete class guy. Top notch. And don't give me this cultural stuff either. The guy is no dummy and could figure it out. I don't usually sleep with underage girls and boys here in the states, but when I go to the Philippenes, I do. It's just cultural. When in Rome.
This is classic, i am so going to the philipines.

8) So we have opions from 2 long time professionals (Mason & Harry D) who both have excellent reputations and both say that expecting Hachem to tip was unreasonable.Perhaps we shouldn't be jumping on the player's back, but instead venting some distaste towards Harrahs for creating this situation in the first place.
