low profile poker rooms in vegas (list)

Thanks for the replies on Kill and Half Kill. We play a cash game with a "rock". The person who scoops the first pot over $50.00 gets the rock which is a die. If you have the rock, you put it out when the person to your right post the big blind. The rock forces a $5.00 bet, free to the person who has the rock but everyone else needs to call or bet at least $5.00. (our blinds are $1/$2 NLHE) It helps to make an interesting cash game.

And who ever the bellagio room is soft !!! please Next to playing in a cali card room ~ its murder !!
which cali rooms do you think are tough and why?
Dude the Bellagio is notoriously soft. At least until you get to 30/60. In fact I've never lost a session there. Though that is sure variance, I can tell that the players are bad. In fact anyone I've ever played with says the same.Cali card room are tougher, because there aren't as many passive players as at Bellagio. The rooms in SoCal are about the same, but in the bay area Bay 101 here are some really easy low limit games

There is a reason these rooms are low profile. Its because they all suck. I've played at most of the places listed and either the service, the game selection, the dealers or the experience in general is what keeps me at the big three. The Orleans has a big room, but the tables look like they were from the Salvation Army, amd similar to other casinos off strip they use half dollars in the low limit games. I guess they are to cheap to make 50 cent chips. I feel like I'm at a home game. Circus Circus was the worst experience playing poker ever. The games are the softest you will see. 8-9 people see the flop avg, but if u raise pre-flop you get the stink eye from various players around the table. My friend playing at another table confirmed this phenomena when he raised preflop and had to muck to a horrible board and bet on the flop. The player next to him said and I quote " You see what happens when u raise!" Now this might sound great to most of u but I don't want to feel guilty for raising preflop in a poker game. One decent place is the Rio, butlike most other places they dont spread limit games except for 4/8. All the tourists want to play in the "all-in game" as I've heard it called. This poker room is too nice and too spacious to only have 2/5 blind NL 4/8 limit. THe Golden Nugget is decent too, but all in all the dealers in Vegas make more mistakes than I've seen anywhere, especially in NL games. Stick to the main rooms and don't waste time at these crapholes unless you're intent on avoiding crowds.
Couple of things wrong with your post....First, whats with the 50 cent piece comment NOBODY uses a 50 cent chip and most of them use quarters not 50 cent pieces. Second, have you ever sat at the tables at the Orleans? One of the reasons they look different is that they use speed felt rather than the standard felt for the playing surface...why is this? This room has anywhere between 10-20 tables operating 24 hours a day seven days a week. If they used a standard poker felt they would be changing the felt every 3 months or so. Right now they change them every 6-12. Not only that but the 1.80 per hour you get in comps plus the 50 dollar a night poker room rate more than make up for them using older chips at the low limit games. As far as games go the Orleans is of the tougher low limit rooms in Vegas. It loosens up alot on weekends and when big conventions or the rodeo are in town but a new player can expect to see high quality play from the local grinders even on the 2-4 tables. As far as the dealer situation in Vegas goes...yeah there is a problem with dealers right now. With 6 new card rooms opening in the last 6 months and 2 or 3 more opening before the end of the year the demand on Poker delakers is at an alltime high. I know here at the Wynn where I work we hired 300 poker dealers to keep the room staffed.....every single one of them came from another casino. The same thing happened when the MGM opened and when Bellagio re opened. So there are LOTS of new poker dealers sitting at your tables, espescially a the off strip properties. At the same time its also the responsibility of the players at the tables to help the dealer out if he/she is making a mistake. Also your statement about avoiding these places unless you want to avoid crowds is also incorrect. Anyplace...and I mean anyplace with a poker room in Vegas right now will usually have at least a 1/2 hour wait to get on a table during the week and on weekends this can sometimes streach to 1-2 hours. So, in conclusion Just because the room is "off the strip" dosnt make it a "craphole" some of the busiest and best games in town are found in these off strip joints.Erik

You have to remember that when playing at the Bellagio you are playing against people that should be playing 1-2 or 2-4 but just have more money.Erik

I played NL at the Excalibur this weekend and found it to be surprisingly soft. I had one guy call off all his chips to me (about $75) with second pair, and another guy donated about $150 to me on a pair of aces, with a 7 kicker! So obviously now I'm moving to LV to get rich... I know that the poker craze is out of control and there are a lot of inexperienced players but even if you're new to the game, who actually thinks that second pair or even top pair will hold up when somebody else is willing to put all their chips at risk?

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I decided to give the Wynn a try for the first time tonight. BAD MOVE. Obviously, being a Saturday night the place was super busy.Anyway, I put my name down for the 4/8 Limit and I was number 24 in the queue. 90 minutes later, I was number 20. Just plain rediculous, so I left and went home. This was of course at about 8:30pm on a Saturday night, probably no worse time to try it out.

I like, no i love the circus circus for low limit ~ heck i pretty much lived there for over a year !!I would say it is the biggest berry patch in vagas if you ask me.And it doesnt hurt there is a long stay motel almost across the street that feeds the card room.

I play at Sunset Station regularly to master my low limit skills. All the station casinos are linked to a great bad beat jackpot (always over $100,000). I don't play specifically for the jackpot but it's nice if someone hits over at Boulder Station and I get $200 or more for just sitting at a game.I usually play 4-8 because it's the most profitable for me but I see regulars there who clean up every time on the 3-5 no limit table. If I was a better no limit player I'd be there every night. The comps are ok ($1 an hour for food only) and the staff are great. Still looking forward to GVR opening up in August.

I played at the Luxor this weekend, and I don't think I've ever come accross such a bad assembly of poker players. I of course lost too, but that's bc the deck was cold. :club: But really, the 2-4 game at the luxor were very soft, at least 4 ppl seeing every flop. Very, very few pots won without a showdown, and as far as I could tell there were at least three people who actually didn't know how to play hold em at the table. There was no wait either for me, I just sat right down in a game, and this was around 11 PM on a Friday. The room isn't big though by any means. My last hand, I lost to a guy who called two bets cold pre flop with J6o, just to give you an idea of what the game was like. I didn't mind though, just smiled, took my beer and left. One negative thing I have to say about the place though is the rake is high, and I'm not confident that the dealers knew how to calculate it correctly. (btw 10% up to $4 per hand). At one point, there was maybe $20 at MOST in the pot, but the dealer had already raked $3, so you do the math.

Bally's/Paris has pineapple tourneys - I think on Tuesdays. Really fun.The Sahara has the best cheap tourneys. $42 + $20 rebuy gives you $T2000 + $T1500 and you needn't bust to rebuy - pretty much everyone does.

So if I'm reading correctly, most of the Vegas card rooms offer limits around 4/8 at the most? If I am interested in 10/20 or so it is basicly Bellagio or Wynn?
No. The Mirage spread higher limit games also. I'm sure there are others. But if you're interested in playing 10/20, you'll probably be confined to these places, for the most part.

Is the structure crazy fast, Buddha (like I've heard the Luxor's tourney is), or is there a bit of room for play?I've been wanting to play a live tourney the next time I go to LV, but didn't want one that was an all-in fest after only 20 minutes. I know you're not going to ever get a really great structure for a sub-$100 tourney, but some have to be better than others, right?Any advice from anyone on this?
