the best cheapest tourneys in vegas

Recommended Posts

just got done reading the first time in vegas thread and it made me think of having a thread that tells you where the best tourneys are so whenever people ask this question we can just give'em this thread to look at.Me among others are goin to vegas for there first time and I'm really interested in getting into some tourneys before I play the #22 event for the WSOP. Sure I've played lots of live tourneys, but not vegas style. Any info on this would be great!

For the money, you'd have a hard time beating the tourney at the Sahara. They run it 3 times a day. 11AM, 7PM, 11PM. $42 buy-in plus an optional $20 add-on. (2000 inital chips, 1500 for the add-on). Not sure about the morning tournament's size, but the 7PM gets about 150 - 170 and the 11PM is getting about 50-70 but gaining in popularity.

aren't there some $5 buy-ins?
The cheapest tourney I know of is a $20 buy-in tourney held every day at Nevada Palace. It's on Boulder Highway. They have only 3 tables an they don't actully play poker at the casino other than the daily tournament. You start with 400 in chips, the first 3 rounds are limit and then it goes to no-limit.I don't know of any live tourney in Vegas that are less than $20.

Yeah, on your laptop playing online in your room. haha I really doubt there are any with that low stakes but if anyone does know any, it would be nice to know.

No casino in Vegas could afford to run a 5 dollar tournament. They'd be losing bunches of money by hogging up tables to play it. Sadly, there aren't even many 5 dollar table games anymore for much the same reason.

But I did hear Ellix Powers runs a penny game out of his garage!! "He called me with JACK HIGH, JACK HIGH"!!! I get a kick out of that WSOP episode on ESPN everytime.

$20 add-on for an extra 1500 chips? Is there any requirement? Is it a rebuy where you have to be almost out of chips, if not out? Because if you can just pay $62 and get 3500 chips, I have no idea why you wouldn't.

We went to Vegas a few weeks ago...Friends played in a tournament at the Aladdin... Nice poker room...$40 buy-in at 10 am or so...$60 buy-in at 2 pm or so...Believe they run 'em every day...Not too sure about that tho'...About 90 ppl showed for the 10 am tourney and 70 for the 2 pm tourney... Friend won the second tourney and took home $1500...Several cash games after the tournaments as well...

anybody know if the sahara gives you points for playing poker? I know you do with slot, video poker, or video keno machines, but I don't know if they do with poker.

I played at the Orleans today, started at noon, something like 145 players. $65 gets you 300 in chips, $20 gets you $600 more, but the blinds start at 10/15 and go up incrementally (no double ups). 15 minute rounds. It's kind of a low rent, cheezy room, but the tourney is decent. Oh yeah, they also have this bounty thing where you get 5 bucks for every person you knock out. Kinda cool.Best non-WSOP tourneys going in town right now are at the Palms. Check out their website, they have a whole tournament series going.

I'm pretty sure the luxor has daily tournaments $25 12:00 noon tourney and they have a tourney at 4 or 5 for $45.But I agree that the aladin tourney is the best because of the amount of chips they give you to start out with. I played in that one when I was down there. Plus they bring out these free sandwiches which are so yummy after the 3rd round.-J

I played in the Sahara tournament when I was in Vegas in January. It was pretty good for a $45 tournament. The structure moved pretty fast, but that's to be expected. I did fine through the first 3 hours or so, then my KK ran into AA and I was on my way back to the hotel.

I just got back from a weekend at the World Series. I played in the $1500 no limit holdem event. The day after I busted out I was also trying to find some cheap tournaments to buy into so I will give you what I found were the best bets.First of all there are tons of tournaments going all day in the Rio convention center on the tables not being used by the main WSOP events on that day. There are constantly sit n gos for $50, $65, $165, $525, and $1,065 starting like every 10 minutes. Also there is a 2nd chance tournament at 11pm everyday which is $225 no limit holdem. There is also a 7pm super which I believe is $225 with $200 rebuys no limit holdem. Most of these tournaments pay out in tournament satellite chips but people are willing to buy them on the spot for 100%.As far as the Sahara tournament goes, it is $42 plus a $20 rebuy no limit holdem. So essentially you can start with $3500 chips which isnt bad for that buy in amount. They take a huge cut of the prize pool though. If I remember correctly it was around 30%. I decided to play in this on Saturday at 7pm. There were 171 players and 145 rebuys and the prize pool came to $7600. I was able to take down 1st place which was $3,100. It took 5-6 hours. The house cut is definitely ridiculous, but the 3500 chips you can start with and the blind structure give the better players a shot than most small buy in tournaments. There are also tournaments at the Palms, which is down the street from the Rio, that are $230-$530 buy ins with rebuys going on every day. I didnt check it out buy some players I knew went there when I went to the Sahara.I wouldnt recommend any Luxor tournaments. The only ones I have ever seen there were complete jokes. Something like start with 500 chips with the blinds at 25-50 going up every 10 minutes.I just got back from my trip today. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Ill be heading back for the main event. Good Luck in your event.Dave

For a smaller tourney i recommend the Mandalay Bay, $35 buy in or something. only like 35 people.i wouldnt go near luxors.harrahs are decent. they got a good number of people when i was tehre.binnions has a late night 2 am. 60$ plus add on(20) and 1 rebuy i believe. but the casino isnt in great shape and neither are some of the players.

I'm not sure if this place has already been said but last time i was in vegas(august) I found the Plaza a really nice place to play. They have really cheap buy ins(around 20 dollars) so if you're new or are just kind of short on cash but still want to play, The plaza is a great place and is really nice.
