Some lighthearted talk here plus this will make sure that I can read this again sometime as it's a good story, at least for me. If it wasnt for posting all those apartment stories I would forget almos

I debated posting this, because I might be overdoing this topic this week, but I made a sort of personal promise to myself that I am going to promote more positivity and try to never be negative or pu

Danny.... Thats a great attitude to have, and you will be amazed at the progress Owen can make with that kind of attitude and persistence on your part. On Feb 4, 2003, the diagnosis I got was that

"Yes little 4 yr old Zeeshan is going to kill Jin and feed him to Liz."

Sorry, I laughed a lot at this!

yeah, I laughed too. Like Jin would kill zeeshan and feed him to Liz without eating some of zeeshan first. Let's get real people!

Stories like that are all over. Can't imagine what it is like to be a Muslim (or a Sikh or anyone else who stupid white people think are "suspicious") in the US right now. Second-class citizens, which is insane. And of course, it isn't just Trump. Reading stuff that Trump has written through the years, I find it very unlikely he believes most of the stuff he says - he's just the most willing to go to extremes since, unlike Cruz or others, he doesn't have a political career or a lifetime of actually dealing with people to hold him back. I mean, your mother-in-law seems to have extreme paranoia, but the kind of fear and hate that is promulgated by Trump, Fox and others like them has real effects on real people, every day. Your story was kind of funny, but what would happen if little Zeeshan was out with his mother at the grocery store and your mother-in-law saw him. Kids notice that. Whatever Zeeshan's parents do, they probably either have an employer and/or want customers, and every day they are told that "Muslims are up to something" is a day that they lose a potential job or customer, or get sneered at one the street, or served last at a restaurant, etc. But hey, I'm sure causing a large group to feel disillusioned, hated and distrusted is definitely a way to make them hate you less and keep us all safe.

It's not black and white. That's why it's a problem.

Today is a perfect example. It seems like LA and New York school boards both received a possible threat thru email this morning.

The LA head of school decided to keep all of kids at home today. 650000 kids. Which affected millions of people days today.

New York decided that it was hoax and decided not too take action.

What if it was real and the LA school district didn't act on it. ?

Steve, I found that story to be disturbing. I know people like that exist, in large numbers, and not just in the USA, but I guess I typically don't associate with people like that on a day to day basis, I don't even know how I would react to something like that.

I simply stay the fck away. They wonder why I never join Liz & Jin when they go over there. Luckily she keeps her shit in check around Jin. I won't put up with any talk like that around him.

She tries to bring up politics at family functions but Liz quickly squashes it but there's been times she got into it with my scummy Democrat mother and we had to step in. My mom is good at discussing. Her mom thinks she knows all and there's no compromise or mutual respect. Oh man, when my wife was a speech writer for a democratic candidate running for the House of Reps...oh boy was that a big mess.

I think you need to come up with something to say that's so shocking she won't want to bring up politics when you're around.

My children aren't baptized. I figured this should be their choice when they get older and wiser. My grandmother once asked me when I was getting them baptized. My reply involved catholic priests and the molestation of children. She's never brought it up again.

I'm sure you can come up with something.

I have read this three times and I can't figure out how it relates to my rant?

I actually decided to watch the debate last night, and it turns out I don't have CNN. Oh well.

After extensive research (I read his twitter timeline), I've decided to put my impressive political pedigree to good use and officially endorse Bernie Sanders for POTUS.

I'm all for Sanders the more I read about him. People just scream "socialist" them run away. He's not that simple. He's the only candidate who comes off as someone who truly cares and actually wants to govern, IMO. He also votes on bills not by party line but by what the bill is actually about and how it's written.

He is the much better Democratic candidate IMO..

Maybe I'm just a naïve Canadian, but I really don't understand the backlash to Socialism.

This is a claim that I've done zero research to back up, but I would estimate that a large percentage of the countries that are widely considered to be the "best places in the world to live" with the highest overall quality of life, would be considered socialist to some degree.

I think many Republican Americans equate Socialism for Communism. That's where the wheels fall off the wagon. Then you bring up fire departments, library's and police stations and they just curse you and walk away ranting about communism.

I knew an someone who threatened to move to Canada if we became a socialist country.

I am against Socialism for many many reasons..To put it simply in a socialist state, you dont have the liberty to decide how to spend your money..Government might give you great transportation, great healthcare, great public parks...All of which you may not care about..Your money is not yours, but its the governments and they will spend it how you see fit..

This is a simplistic version of how to look at it..

Socialism is a moderate form of communism, in that the government has a lot of control over where the money is being spent..

If you believe that a huge percentage of your income should go to government so take can take care of the lower class, I guess that might make you a socialist.

Canada is definetely more socialist than the United States but I wouldnt consider Canada the most socialist country..It ranks in the top 10..

define "huge percentage". I think Moderate socialism is ideal. I consider Canada Moderately socialist.

Canada is also way closer to true capitalism than communism. Canada is also a far superior country to live in than the USA for most people by pretty much every available metric.

I cant quantify percentage, but maybe huge isnt the terminology. But its larger.

We also dont have to agree on your last statement, as it certainly doesnt apply to my personal situation and my family.

Again, I could be wrong about this, I haven't researched it, but I don't think Taxes are much higher in Canada, it's just that more of taxpayer's money goes towards improving quality of life whereas a lot of that money in the USA goes towards the military budget.

Serge, "most people" doesn't necessarily apply to your particular situation. My statement can be true (it is), while still not applying to you personally (Though I doubt you could make a comprehensive claim to that degree after living there for less than a year)

Yes not to be selfish but I care more about my family than other peoples situations in the country.

Healthcare spenditure by GDP of all nations...Canada is at around 11% , US is around 17%...Numbers for 2015 are actually closer to 20%

http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.XPD.TOTL.ZS

Universal healthcare is a great thing in theory...If you are unemployed , not making an income and not contributing to society..

If I am a businessman , working hard 80 hours a week to feed my family...I rather my hard work contributes a larger percentage to my personal growth and my families well being...Rather than paying for the lower class..

Again its a simplistic view and I am not against taking care of our needy, disabled and mentally ill who cant provide for themselves...
