mrdannyg 274
Yeah, I don't watch baseball. Fantasy is fantasy. You'd love this league, there's way more opportunities for efficiency and calculating averages and PPG and such than the FCHL. It's basically the FCHL for nerds. Oh, and in this league, I kick ass, instead of suck, while Dubey sucks instead of kicking ass. Just kidding, Dubey is good at baseball too. It's annoying, to be honest.

wsox8 10
Sorry, forgot to respond. I'm going to hold off on posting the schedule until we know if we're replacing teams and stuff because I'd want to have the new team names on there.

Oh yeah, and Steve is our Ollie in that his team always looks average, at best, then whomps ass. Except since we play way more games with way more players, variance is a significantly smaller issue, so it's more likely Steve's just the king of undervalued players. MapleLeafpoker 1,462
re:work involved in this pool. I've always felt the minors draft in this league was a huge pain in the ass, and I think some of us just aren't that interested in going so deep with baseball farm players. Baseball is not the same as hockey when it comes to prospects. I wonder if Dale+Wayne would have had more interest in the pool without such an expanded farm system? Does anyone else feel like I do, or is it just me who is too lazy to research such a depth of baseball farm prospects?
iBeaver 409
There's a reason I try to get rid of all my picks.
Dubey 1,035
prospect research is possibly my favourite part of the pool. How would you even propose making it les in-depth without completely re-working the entire pool/starting over?
MapleLeafs 142
I enjoy the research part that comes with the entry draft too. What I don't like is how deep our starting rosters are. An FCHL style league is supposed to have some sort of decision making on who to start each night. With our league you can basically set your lineup in April and check back in August. At least in the F and the A you can have 12 forwards playing on a night, but you're forced to choose your best 6. I know I brought this up after season one but everybody loved the deep starting rosters (probably because you can set your lineup in April and come back in August lol)
GOCUBSGO 77
If we need another to join the league, my friend Scott might be interested in joining. He isn't an FCP member, but he has been in the FCGL league for 2 1/2 years and I know he is a big Red Sox fan. Also the prospects are my favorite thing about this league. When I took over for Serge, my team was pretty lousy. I knew I couldn't be competitive for at least a few seasons, but researching draft prospects, making trades for future cap, picks, and farm players has made the league very enjoyable despite finishing in 11th place

Does anyone else feel like I do, or is it just me who is too lazy to research such a depth of baseball farm prospects? This is a fair and reasonable point. As much as we've tried to make this league even and fair across skill and interest levels, the deep farms and rosters definitely give a big advantage to people doing their research. It's less fun if you don't feel like you can compete without doing a ton of research if the research itself isn't fun for you. prospect research is possibly my favourite part of the pool. How would you even propose making it les in-depth without completely re-working the entire pool/starting over? I think a simple way would be to reduce the draft to 3 rounds. In past years, I either picked or strongly considered guys who then became top-10 prospects within a few years in the 5th round. But if you keep it to three rounds, you basically allow anyone to only look at the first round or two of the last year's draft and the top 100 lists, which are available publicly from a number of outlets. The real skill comes in the later rounds, so it'll force those of us doing our research to make much tougher decisions in the 3rd round. I also love the prospect part of the league, but I love having a 12-team 'fun' league more than a 6-8-team league of hardcores! I know I brought this up after season one but everybody loved the deep starting rosters (probably because you can set your lineup in April and come back in August lol) I think this has the benefit of making it easier on people to spend less time, especially since playing matchups in baseball is more meaningful than in hockey, so someone with more time could gain a big advantage, which is not what I want to see. Then again, as I said above, deep rosters also takes a big 'luck' factor out of the league, which can be demotivating for some. I know if we had 20-man FCHL rosters, I'd have no hope of competing, and wouldn't really find the league fun.
GOCUBSGO 77
I personally don't feel that reducing the entry draft from 5 rounds to 3 would make that much of a difference. I think that you are still going to have to do your research. Maybe even more so because as you said the decisions on who to take get harder when there isn't as many rounds. I feel like we should leave this the same, but obviously I'm also happy to go along with whatever the majority wants. As far as rosters go, I wouldn't mind either way, but I do agree that the current setup allows for less time invested in the day to day work.
Dubey 1,035
fwiw, the teams that don't check their lineups daily are at a big disadvantage. Guys get days off all the time, and if you aren't constantly trying to get active players into your lineup, you are losing a lot of equity in each matchup. I am constantly shuffling my roster spots to accommodate hot streaks, good matchups, and rest days. That's probably one of the reasons I was able to stay competitive in a couple of the early years when my squad was not very good. Also, there are way better players available on the waiver wire in Baseball if you keep your eyes and ears open. With a shallower lineup, there would be no value in scouting fringe players, and it would turn into a boring league where the team with the best "stars" would win, rather than the most balanced team. I would be very strongly opposed to making the starting roster shallower.
