I'm not going to comment on all the suggestions that have been made yet but one thing Gov and I discussed this morning that he can do is create a graphic banner that people can put in their sig for the winner of each quarter's leader board and the TOC winners. He's going to make one up for each of the 2009 winners plus ones moving forward.I'm probably going to play the Nego on Wed and get the opinions of the people who are playing on things like buyin, structure, starting time etc.

Ya i think if bob arranged with DN to announce that he will be making a surprise appearance once a month and not tell anyone wich week it is then people would play every week in hopes thats the week he plays.

Asking people who are playing about the buyin and structure is going to give meaningful results, but asking people who are playing about the starting time won't be as useful, since the people who have a problem with the starting time are the ones not playing.

I like that idea, but it obviously depends on Daniel's schedule whether he can play in the negreanu open at all. It would be cool to see him in it, though.

I think rather than asking 'what would make the Neg O more popular?', it may be more useful to ask 'what can we replace the Neg O with?' and I would suggest that a leaderboard/ranking system (a la the 4.40s one) which allowed loads more flexibility would be a good way to get a good competition going on the forums. Whenever the 4.40 challenge is run it generates a whole lot more interest and excitement than the Neg O.But, that doesn't really help answer the question you asked. As others have also said, I find that the time it starts is prohibitive. I know there's no way every time zone can be catered for, but being in the UK and working, I can't justify staying up for it. If it was made worthwhile due to having a bigger field (and thus, bigger prize pool) or other incentive I'm sure I'd play this more often even if it meant a late night. A faster structure would also make it easier for me to play more regularly, but in all honesty, I don't think encouraging faster structures is so necessary. The popularity of the Neg-o could ultimately and fairly obviously be flipped magnificently easilly through one thing - Daniel's participation or financial input. If he plays, loads of people will also play. If there's a bounty on him it's even more incentive. If he adds onto the prize pool it is once again going to bring in players. Hell, he must have weight, he could probably get PS to chuck in an extra $50 a week if he really wanted to. But I don't think he does to be honest, and I can understand that. An $11 tourney played by a dwindling number of regulars vs the many other things he could be doing - it's not really a choice at all. Also, bigger wouldn't necessarily be better. Loads of non FCP people is more likely if Daniel did get involved. So, there you go, a load of points that don't actually serve any useful purpose at all! :club:

Plus I think Daniel should play every week.
I don't remember the last time he actually played the NegO...And while I am at it, DN has not spent much time at this forum since he signed with PokerStars...

If you are trying to attract newbs to up the participation you should limit it to NLHE. I'm not sure there is the interest in poker that there once was given all the difficulties the sites have ben through the last few years but I agree, Daniel plugging it and playing occasionally is the best hope for it. I think the quarterly winner getting something like a buy-in for the Sunday Stars tourney which would help promote Pokerstars on DN's behalf would help also. As far as the actual tourney goes i've always liked the structure and buy-in. A night other than American Idol which a very popular tv show might help as well.

I actually think we should do a higher stakes version of the Neg O's to attract higher stakes players..We can do like a SCOOP kind of thing, Low, Medium and High Stakes buy ins.
