colouraphobe 0
I'm cool with the ban on smoking in public and I'm a smoker. It is a genuine health risk to others around me. What I'm not cool with is some jerk in a Hummer telling me that I shouldn't smoke cause I'm polluting his air WTF!
fryer98 30
What about the people that get wasted at the bar and drive home?I'm not sure if you've heard, but they have laws against this too.One of the big arguments in favor of banning smoking that was put forth here was the whole "what about the children?" bullshit. It's not JUST for bars. All 3 of my local bars have seating to eat too. 2 of them have VERY good food, so there's familys in those areas all the time.just dip. Same buzz, no smoke to bother others. Dip is +ev.Tom.Some of my buddies that smoke have been chewing those spitless pouches to prepare for the non-smoking.1 of the 3 bars that I frequent will still have smoking, since they have <20% of their sales from food. The #1 place I go will be non smoking now and I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeal happy about this.
grocery_mony 8
This "second class citizen" is BS too. You can go to the same places and do the same things as non smokers just as long as your not polluting the air while doing it.
Piddle Duck 0
I am not even a smoker and I agree with hank in this whole debate. Sitting in a non-smoking section of a bar/restaurant is satisfactory with me. I try not to impose my will on other people though so that might be the difference. This country is supposed to be "free" but all I ever see is people trying to tell other people how to live their life and taking freedoms away. It's pretty interesting when you step away and look at it.

It's pretty interesting when you step away and look at it.The hard part, though, is getting the wafting, second-hand smoke to obey the non-smoking section boundaries.Surely you've been to Windsor and discovered the joys of a totally non-smoking environment.Hell, Ontario recently made it illegal to smoke in cars with children in them. Considering our universal health care is paid for by tax dollars, i'm largely in favour of the government prohibiting or limiting behaviours that cost millions of dollars to care for.Either that, or smoker should have to sign a contact that says they'll either pay for their own health care costs or agree to die a slow, lingering, painful death from lung cancer. Either way, I'm good.

Either way, I'm good.Never been in a situation where I was bothered by smoke from the smoking section.I completely understand your point about your tax dollars and your heath care system. It's a common argument I hear in regards to the seat belt laws.I don't understand the need to wish someone a slow painful death because they chose to do something legal like smoke. Hank made a fine point about it above. If it is so bad and so wrong and we want to pass laws to change it then go after the tobacco industry. Wish them the harm. But we can't for obvious reasons, so we blame smokers. I am an ex smoker, and I knew it was bad for me and I quit pretty much now that I think about it...3 years ago this week. Would you wish me a slow painful death?

Would you wish me a slow painful death? My intention wasn't to wish death upon someone. You know me better than that. However, I get upset with the staggering cost of caring for someone who smoked a pack a day for 30 years. If you're gonna smoke and get lung cancer, then man the fuck up and die with some dignity.....okay, sorta kidding, but you understand my point. If you're one of those rare smokers who can avoid cancer, good for you. Either way, I'm good.I already do; it's called health insurance.---I understand the argument against places that serve food; PA's rule w/ >20% makes sense. I have no problem with that. But Applebee's and Drink Yourself 'Tarded Tap are two completely different animals. Have smoking bars and non smoking bars, make it posted on the outside clearly visible, charge the establishments that choose to allow smoking an extra tax, maybe a 'smoking license', then there's more tax revenue, smokers are happy, non-smokers are happy and then everyone's happy except for people who don't like run on sentences with ridiculous comma use. Smacciemac 3
they put that into effect a couple years ago in MN and I have come home ever since with my clothes not smelling like an ashtray. also they have set up gazebos or whatever outside of bars now for the smokers and thats a nice place to hang out sometimes. at least in the summer. not sure if I will be out there in January at all.Yep.. NJ has been smoke free for a couple of years too. I love it! I am hoping the rest of the casino smoking ban goes through as well in NJ. Right now in Atlantic City the casinos have a smoking section.. but no other public place has smoking at all.

Petoria 0
Well, I would say that smoking bans are completely wrong. Let the market sort it out. There is a non-smoking bar and a smoking bar right next to each other in a nearby city. It seems like the non-smoking bar is doing much better.I am not a smoker, I never have smoked a cigarette, but it's not my job to take away freedoms to protect people, it's the Patriot Act's job. No? why not?Well.. I'd rather not breathe in the deadly smoke either. Smokers can do what they want to themselves, but unfortunately smoke goes in the air and affects many other people around them. It is not fair to say you can not smoke on your bar stool.. however it is not fair for me to have to breathe in deadly chemicals because you choose to put them in my air. If it didn't waft into my face, if it didn't get blown towards me and in my face by rude smokers and stayed just inside you and just around you, then go ahead and puff away on your cancer sticks.. however that is not the case.
