I don't think the topic is "is carrying guns ok", but rather "is carrying a gun to a poker game ok". Let's maybe stray away from the topic of carrying a gun in general?

fair enough. I agree with FCP Bob that if you are going to bring a gun into someone's home the least you can do is let them know. If I was running a home game, I wouldnt let you in.

There is a definite difference in gun culture between Canada and the US and I'm not going to get into the debate over how much gun control is a good thing as I think everybody agrees that some level of control is a good thing but whether that level is no flamethrowers but everything else is okay or nobody should own guns at all is the range of people's feelings.I do think it's extremely arrogant and selfish to think that your right to carry a concealed weapon extends to somebody else's home without the permission of the homeowner though. In a homegame situation the person running the game may desire that you are there with your weapon since many games do get robbed but whether having the players armed when that happens is a good or bad thing is a debate that I don't want to get into.In Canada the only people who are carrying concealed guns are criminals basically as it's pretty much impossible to get a carry permit.
I agree with you that it is arrogant and disrespectful to bring a gun into someone's home without their knowledge.

Wow...I love America in so many ways, but hearing stuff like this is pretty sad tbh.Is there really so much shit goin on that there are people who carry ALL THE TIME? Walking their dog...lol...wtf, r u serious? The thing about the home game is pretty ridiculous, if you need that gun all the time fine, but leave it in the car or whereever, but what kind of home game do you need a gun at? idk what kind you people play, but wow...Stay safe, I guess...?

Agreed (although I am sure some - perhaps me included - will be unable to keep themselves from this wider debate).

However just feeling safe vs. unsafe isn't the issue -
lol @ Americans' obsession with guns. What's wrong with a good old fashioned fist fight? :club: Also, regarding the quoted part, does that mean you're 'safe' with a gun? I've never carried a gun or anything like that (the most I've ever done is shoot an air rifle with friends in an open field), but i honestly think I'd feel the most 'unsafe' I've ever been if I was walking around with one.

I don't agree with that. If I do choose to carry it is a "Concealed" weapon - in fact it must be concealed by law - "brandishing" is illegal. The right to carry does not include having to inform everyone that you are doing so. I don't feel any responsibility to inform anyone other than the homeowner.

Ok, so you bring a gun to a poker game. For sake of argument, let's say it's a 2/5 home game and it's a full table. Everyone brought ~$1000 with them.Later in the night, someone walks in wearing a mask and has a gun, and obviously has the intention of robbing the place. Is it worth it to pull a gun, risk your life, someone elses, or kill someone, to protect your and everyone else's $1000? If you are a degen and play high stakes cash games outside of a casino, in a place where you feel you might need a gun, okay, fine. But to bring it to a home game? Is it worth it?

Lol this has little to do with America. It doesn't happen here much, either.I was shot once at a poker game. Champagne cork, nearly knocked me out of the chair. The half dozen times it happens a year or so it makes the news and there's a big hub bub. Generally it's robbery related. And we all know shootings have far more to do with robbery than with poker. And if you are worried about getting robbed when playing poker, you're playing stakes too high and too far away from casino security.

I host a home game on occasions. They are only attended by people I know. Anyone trying to bring a gun would be ejected and banned. If I found out that someone had brought a gun and had not told me, that person would no longer be a friend of mine. And in this day and age.... with the internet and all the casinos and poker rooms...... I think anyone who plays in a game where they feel threatened enough to carry a gun is a fool. No amount of money is worth risking your life for.

Depends. It isn't just about the amount of $ at stake. If someone is robbing you with a gun, your life, not just your money is already very much at risk. If I have a chance to shoot the bad guys I'd do it - but if I'd have to evaluate the whole scenario and risk.

This is what I'm trying to get at.

how about the fact that i wouldn't want to play in a game if i knew that somebody there had a gun? while not a legal right, i feel its one that should be respected given the nature of the game and the consequences of what could happen.

I agree with abortion and think George Bush has been an excellent president
I'm not totally sold on gravity. Murdering fetuses and what not.CaneBrain: That seems like a tacky thing to say, abortion.Abortion: I know. Really, I just like to try and keep all the slutty girls skinny and un-pregnant for my homeslices.CaneBrain: I agree! Yes we can!(Scene.)
