Florists That Deliver

Recommended Posts

It's my girlfriend's birthday in a week and I've been checking online at prices for like a dozen roses in a vase delivered or something. She lives 45mins north of me so I kinda have to deliver and I just think it's better to catch her off guard with the idea. Regardless all the sites I've checked online are asking like $40-$50 for their cheapest crappy bouquet let alone $60-75 for a dozen roses. Is this the norm nowdays? I've never done anything like this before and wonder if anyone on here has. Btw if anyone that replies is in the Chicagoland area, she lives in Arlington Heights.

I've used 1800flowers.comFTD.comand a local AH place called Sylvia's to get stuff for dances and other occasions (might be a little more expensive), but there's plenty of places online. Here's the website for it http://www.sfbuds.com/I'll hand deliver them for ya :club:

My decorating company started life as a flower shop, we did regular flower shop things for over 10 years.Flowers are not the same price to the florist everyday.Flowers are expensive during the holiday times, we would pay 3 times higher prices than normal during Valentines, double Mother's day etc.In fact during Valentines Day I could buy a dozen roses from Costco cheaper than my supplier could get me, I would pay about $38 a bunch and Costco had them for $29.Florist throw way about 10% of their flowers if they are good at ordering. 20-30% in smaller flower shops. you pick up this cost.Wire services work like this. You come into my shop and order flowers to Miami and I wire it out, I get 22%, the wire company gets 8% the flower shop that does the work gets 70%. It's suppose to balance out with their wire outs making up the 30% discount...but the www.flowers and the 1-800-flowers things are nothing more than large wire services, wiring out every order you call in. And some flower shops keep extra from your wire out, you order $75 arrangement, they call another florist and give them $65. I once had an $35 order, and when I delivered it the person that sent it had driven up from San Diego and said: "I paid $85 for that?"Lately there have been companies sending boxes of flowers for you to arrange yourself, which gets round the wire service charge. These flowers are often shipped directly from the farmer, and although fresh, they are not properly prepared. When flowers came into our shop, they were hydrated, cut on angle and placed in a bucket of fresh water with a perservative that added nutrients, as well as a chemical that helped prevent hard water from plugging the stems. You should get an extra 3-4 days from a flower properly taken care of.Truth is flowers are not cheap, and during holidays they can be terrible. Supply and demand, when you have to have roses, the price goes up and the quality down. Valentines day falls soon after the Rose parade in So Cal, the price of roses is triple normal price, and the quality is garbage. Don't buy flowers during V day, or Mother's day. When you want to send flowers, call a local florist in the city you want to send to and use your credit card. Tell them you want them to make a nice mixed arrangement, whatever they have that is freshest. Don't pidgeon hole them to a specific flower, they will use whatever they have, and if the price is high, you get less. Designer's choice let's the designer pick the best flowers, and let's them do more flowers, because the designers are artistic, and love to play with designs. Also tell them the recipient loves flowers and used to work in a flower shop when she was younger. This might get them to go the extra distance to make it nice and use fresh flowers. Think up something to say on the card before hand, makes things go smooth. And do not spend your money on a vase, spend it on flowers. A regular vase cost the florist about $.80- $2.00 When you use a vase that cost $8 they take $24 out of the flowers and put it in the vase. And number one smartest thing you can do is send flowers to your wife / girlfriend at work. When I used to walk into an office with a large arrangement every woman would turn and you could read their minds: "Please let it be me" and then when I set it on so and so's desk, they all hated her for a second. Guaranteed winner guys.

My boyfriend has sent me flowers from 1800flowers a few times. They come in a UPS box. not arranged, no babys breath etc.. just 12 roses stuck in a box with a vase in the box for you to arrange yourself. The roses have lasted less than 2 days each time if they were even alive when they got here. Other girls in my office had the same thing happen including broken vases, Flowers being delivered and then the teddy bear that was supposed to be with it came like 3 hours later in another UPS shipment.. I would DEFINATELY go local florist. They arrange them beautifully, they will be alive and will probably live the life span they are supposed to. Not to mention they will be there at the time you want them to be and not when the UPS guy shows up if he does. FTD.com and Teleflora.com should also both use local florists. And Balloon guy is correct.. send them to work. Its a definite winner!Lillies ROCK! F' Roses

Stargazer Lilies have the most amazing smell and will force the coworkers to come over and comment on the flowers throughout the day. It's like prying toothpicks in their eyes and forcing them to 'see' the flowers.

They are my absolute favorite. I would rather get lilies over roses any day. I don't have a particular fondness for roses. Especially since they die in a couple of days. The Lilies my boyfriend send me this Valentine's Day lasted for more than 2 weeks as long as I kept changing the water.

I think your boyfriend went cheap on you. You can order the UPS version to save a few bucks, or you can order the normal way and they come from a local florist. The ones I've had delivered from the local florist have arrived without problems.

I never saw an option for that in the couple of time I ordered from there. Everyone here gets them via UPS. We have over 90 people in this office and anytime anyone gets 1800flowers they come UPS.
