Looking For Opinions/ideas About What To Do With Some $$

That is the thing I don't know what to invest in. I have never had any amount of capitol my whole life, and I am all for other avenues of income besides poker. I cant just invest the whole shabang though. I need a way to make some of it work for me while I use some of it for poker. Any place up north is really out of the equation for me I cannot stand this cold anymore. I can't even go outside, I would like to check out LA and san diego as well. But I am not going to have enough money to go visit all these places before I decide which one I like. I think that the cali games are more than likely going to be a lot tougher to beat than the vegas games. But I don't know because I have never been , just heard from friends that have played out there.I could do a lot dumber shit like spend it all on a new ride with 24's and all that stupid shit like everyone else i have ever known that got any amount of money at one time.
From what many have said on the forums, Cali games>>>Vegas games.Set up an appointment with an investor. There are TONS of them out there. I am not qualified to speak on how to choose one, but there are numerous people on this forum that can point you in the right direction. The investor can help you sort it all out and help you manage the money. You have to start somewhere though.

OK so you have $25K. And OK you don't like online poker because it "takes away from the game".Anyone can beat online poker. Take $200 of the $25K, buy some books, read the forums. If you are good enough to be a live pro then you WILL become a winning online player. Put $2.5K into Stars. Play $27 18-man and 45-man SNGs. 4-table them 7 hours a day. You should be playing about 40 a day. At the absolute minimum you should be able to maintain an ROI of 10%. So you will be making $108 per day. If you are any good your ROI will be at least 20% and you will be making $200+ per day.Even at a 10% ROI, do this for 3 months and you will have an extra $7.5K. But more importantly you will taught yourself the discipline to grind, not for fun, but to earn a living.I am in a similar boat to you in that I have $25K and am considering playing poker full-time for a while. Tee difference is that I won that $25K by playing poker over the past 3 months (obv brag). And I don't have a kid. And I still intend to grind it out for a few more months, esentially working two jobs, to give myself a decent chance to make a go of it. And people would still say that I am crazy.People are not flaming you for the sake of flaming you. They are thinking about your daughter. The reality is that unless you take some time to learn how to play, and to learn how to grind, you will move to Vegas and bust that $25K very quickly. I think this has already been asked but - what are your credentials as a player? Why do you think you will win? I understand your point that you don't have anything to lose (other than the $25K obv) but if you aren't a winning player (and I'm not saying you aren't - I'm just wondering why you think you are) then you should do something else with the money. What I am saying is that if you are going to make money out of poker, you don't need to start with a massive roll. You improve as your roll increases. I started with $50 and I know a lot of the pro players on this site did too. I hope it all works out - for your sake and perhaps more so for your daughter's.

I saw alot of people talking shit but not any suggestions about what you would do? That was what I was after , input not insults, did I know I was going to get flamed for posting this? Of course so it doesn't matter.
By a cheap car. Put a couple thousand online.INVEST THE REST. Forget about turning pro and playing cards for a living.

I have produced two plans for your new found "wealth". You choose the one that best suits your needs.PLAN A:1) Take $500, buy a decent winter jacket and stop complaining about the cold. 2) Stay where you are and finish your schooling. 3) Once you've completed your education, move somewhere where you can find a good job with your degree and your daughter can get a good education (this step is not as difficult as you make it out to be).4) (actually occurs concurrently with steps 2 and 3) Invest the rest of money (in your daughter's future and in the expenses incurred in moving once you complete your education).5) Raise your family and profit.--- or ----PLAN B:1) But a $75 pair of Oakley Glasses2) Use $6,995 to buy a 3rd-hand, run-down rusty motor home (with a cool paint scheme).3) ???? 4) Spend ~$2,750 overhauling the engine of your new wheels.6) Fuel up the motor home (~$150)5) ????6) Move to Vegas; run a/c non-stop the first night in your motor home7) Refuel the motor home (~$150)8) No more a/c at night-time.9) Use your remaining $9,880 as a starting bankroll to turn pro10) Sit at a 5/5 NLHE table on your first full day in Vegas11) ????12) ?? ---??? --.... ????13) TP/MM and Profit.

so what did you decide to do?
I am going to go ahead and settle with the insurance company hopefully this week and get the check cashed by next week or so, and take off. I am just going to drive out by myself and try to get some housing arrangements and then fly the family out. That was my plan originally and I think it is probably the safest plan. My babies mom wants to work for a little while anyway and she is cool with me going alone , so I think that is how it is gonna happen. I will let you guys know how things work out. And BTW i bought a really big jacket this year because I hate the cold hate the cold hate the cold hate the cold, and wanted to make sure I was warm for my last winter.

I grew up in Winnipeg (a.k.a. "Winterpeg"), Canada, where the winters last six months and the temperatures can dip below -40 degrees with wind chill, so I can relate. For the record, I have since moved away from the cold and now live in beautiful Vancouver, Canada (a.k.a. the poker capital of Canada)

Try Laughlin, NV fwiw... it's pretty there, relatively cheap, still lots of jobs and not AS much heat and still only like an hour and a half from Vegas if you gotta go. And realistically, if you are going to play poker for a living and are willing to move so far away, why isn't LA in your plans instead of Vegas? Just wondering.

I know how much you guys enjoy hearing about peoples failures so I thought I would post an update on my life. I got my settlement, and rented a nice little 3 bedroom house with a garage and backyard here in good old Gas City IN. I finally realized there is no point in having a dream or trying to improve my situation in life. My main source of income (running an underground card game) went belly up because people dont have money around here to play poker. So now I am living off my settlement here with no plan for the foreseeable future as far as what I am going to with my life other than raise my daughter, here in the good old bible belt. The only poker I get to play is online and that is almost over with. When my sorry excuse for what I have left for an online BR is depleted , I will most likely give up on the internet thing. My mind is always all twisted up, I find myself constantly just crying for no reason. My 3rd really close friend decided it would be a good idea to blow there brains out. I went to a high school with a graduating class of like 150 students, we had a small clique of around 10-15 people. Mostly the people that had been labeled as troublemakers / dopeheads / or just didnt mesh with the "cool" kids. Of the 10-15 people in my circle of friends 3 have splattered there brains on the wall and another died from asthma complications while being arrested for disorderly conduct, the cops(pigs) wouldn't give him his inhaler and he went brain dead from lack of oxygen. Sorry for the long back story I just thought it might help shed some light on my mental state right now.So that is pretty much the jist of it, No vegas , No RV , and now no poker. I am so glad that I listened to your guys advice though. Maybe now I can try to restart my career selling dope. Or maybe just maybe I will be lucky enough to score one of the 2 jobs available here , like working at the new WAL-MART distribution factory that is a giant deep freeze., and then maybe just maybe after 30 years (if it hasnt moved to mexico by then ) I can retire and I will only be like 58. The prime of my life! (and before you start talking shit about I can find a job if i want google the Marion Chronicle Tribune and check out the employment section in the classifieds) I am not blaming anyone but myself I knew it was a bad idea but I am the one that let outside people influence my decisions. Now I am in north central indiana with no games, no action , no friends that can even consider going to a casino to play. I had ran my PS acct up to about a G which dissapeared in about a week and a half due to 17 straight losing sessions. Which I really dont give a **** about because I half expected it. Now I am down to something stupid like 80 dollars which I should be losing today. I cannot make it online, at least not at this point, I am not afraid to admit when I am outclassed , the average online regualr is 10 times as skilled as your avg live player. Which is why I wanted to move somewhere warm that I could play live and have a big selection of games. SO there you have it the end to the RV saga, I folded under the pressure like a little bitch and now I get to beat myself up for it for the rest of my life. I always wanted to be that old guy that wonders what could have been if I had actually taken a chances in life.

If you have to ask, you are not ready to be a pro. If you want to go to Vegas, maybe find a job as a dealer or something that gives you a guaranteed income. Play a little bit of poker on the side. Probably something like 1 2 nl live to min. your risk of going broke.Hopefully living in a RV is not a long term plan for you, especially with a little girl.

dudeI am smashed right now so take this with a grain of salt. But you have a wife who you love, and a daughter who you love. Things are not so bad. I think a lot of people (myself included) would be happy with that. You sound kind of dangerously depressed (again I am smashed so this may be an exaggeration). I dunno mate just try to enjoy the positives. I am coming to the US soon and will be happy to buy you a few drinks and have a chatGood luck mateDave

Southside....why do you think this is an Indiana, Vegas, or nothing situation? Honestly, you should not be making ANY major decisions right now based on your mental state. Take $1K of your settlement and find a good counselor, preferably a career counselor to figure out what you like to do. Why not move to Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA? Both are growing areas with relatively cheap rentals right now. Get a sweet computer setup and play some online when you aren't working a real job. STAY WITHIN YOUR BANKROLL. Spend 75% of your time reading online strat forums and the other 25% of the time applying what you have learned. All of us have played online micro limit tables that have better comp than some of the 2/5 games in Vegas. If turning pro was so easy I think all of us would be doing it. Life isn't easy and it takes hard work and dedication to dig yourself out of bad spot. Keep your head up and realize THERE IS ALWAYS a better way.

man, if you are serious, please go see a mental health professional as soon as possible. your little girl does not need to move to vegas and make it big. your little girl needs a father, and you need to see someone to help you through your hard times to make sure you are there for her when she needs you. if you need someone to talk to feel free to send me a PM.

Hey man,It sounds like you're in pretty bad shape right now. And, I have been there, so I can empathize. You start to see your whole world closing in around you and you can't see any way out. It gets bleak, then bleaker. I don't know that I can say anything to help, except hang in there. You can tell by the early portions of the thread that you have real dreams and aspirations, and just because you didn't get to act on those at this particular time doesn't mean you won't eventually. The best laid plans often go awry. I hope that you seek out someone who cares about you, or just a counseling service and find someone who will listen and talk with you. It WILL help. As for poker, **** it. It is just a game. And in your mental state right now, it probably wouldn't be best to be playing anyway. Anyway, hope all ends up well.

This is very good advice, especially the bolded part. You're in a dark place and need to speak to a professional about it. You need to realize that things will get better and that you're not as trapped as you think you are. Try to lay off the drugs aside from prescriptions and a drink here and there.I left Michigan and know how much of a drag the midwest is these days. Try and travel a bit if you can and expand your horizons. Visiting Europe changed my life after spending the majority of it in the Detroit area.
