Looking For Opinions/ideas About What To Do With Some $$

Recommended Posts

I am going to settle on this car wreck most likely this week or next. I am hoping for about 20-25k. I have a few ideas on what i would like to do. One of those is to buy an RV and move out to vegas and play full time. My best game is of couse NL hold em . I currently live in Indiana and there is absolutely no future here for me here. But basically what i am asking here is what amt of the money would you use for your br and what level would you play at? I played the 2-5 nl game at the bellagio most of the 3 days i was in vegas and did quite alright. I didnt feel outclassed at all in the game . I know 3 days of winning sessions doesnt make you a pro, but i felt like i was at home sitting in those plush leather chairs lol. I also started playing online a few weeks ago and my cash game skills online seem subpar for some reason so i am going to stay away from them . But I do pretty well at the low level mtt's and was thinking about using some to try my hand at some larger buyin tourneys. So yeah just looking for some input from some fellow poker players. My girl is on board with the idea and ready to get out of this frozen hell hole. I do have a 3 yr old daughter which kind of adds a weird twist to the situation. But the way i look at it I would rather take my shot and fail than rot here and be nothing for sure.

What type of car do you drive for 25k? Another thing to think about is do you want to be a poker player living in an RV? I am not saying don't go for it, but just some factors to think about. I always thought that "taking a shot" was a great idea for people without many obligations, aka me. But with a kid and a girl to take care of, even though she is up for it, kind of risky. But great luck to you if you go for it!

You said in a different post about transferring moneys:I would but i dont play on full tilt. Also 5 is about 48 percent of my BR now that poker hates me and I cant win a ****ing hand to save my life. I love to run good for 4 hours to get completely card****ed in the end. It is so much fun to spend 4 hours plus to make 1.60 If the above is actually true and not just a funny statement, I would definitely not recommend trying to make a living at cards right now! Besides, I'n not sure about what the other guys that are actually making it think, but I would tend to guess that making $ on lower stake internet games would be easier (and more consistent) in long run than trying to make it at lower stake live games...just a guess though.I've also noticed that for me, its a lot better to play multiple cash games at a time at lower stakes, takes some of the donkey varience out of it, and brings a little more consistency into play. Good luck though.

Dude you've obviously got your priorities straight. You've played 2-5 at the Bellagio, which is more than plenty to think you can go pro in Vegas. Who cares about the 3 yr old daughter. I think you have what it takes and think you should buy an RV and put the rest towards your bankroll. Seriously though, who cares about the daughter. Go ahead and follow your dream! If worst comes to worst and you go broke she can always work at the Rhino when she's old enough.

You got a 3 year old, then your life should revolve around her.Poker should be a hobby. But good luck
Pretty sure this is the first real post I've seen BG post about that isn't related to politics. I would heed this advice, IMMED.And I also agree with it.

Thanks for the input but seriously. I didnt say I was gonna go gamble all my money playing cards just saying I wouldnt mind using a PORTION of it to try. I asked for advice on what you portion of it you would use to play poker , what amount you would put online (I want to be able to play around 25 dollarish buyin tourneys i think?) and what level you would start at. This will be the first time I have had the oppurtunity to really put a serious effort into playing for a living and was just looking for advice. I don't care if I lose my BR if I have to I will get a 9 to 5. Which brings up my next point.Where I live there is nothing. I quit looking for a job several years ago because they simply dont exist. This little chunk of money is pretty much my only chance out of here. The 25k isnt for the car i was driving it is pain and suffering , ironicly I was on my way to school at lincoln tech for collision repair when i got hit. I understand that I should think of my daughters best interest which I believe It would be in her best interest to get out of here and grow up somewhere that she has more oppurtunities to do whatever she wants to do with herself.I saw alot of people talking shit but not any suggestions about what you would do? That was what I was after , input not insults, did I know I was going to get flamed for posting this? Of course so it doesn't matter. So anyway anybody got any suggestions / ideas or do you want to talk more shit it doesn't really matter to me.Also the five dollar thing was just letting off some steam from running so badly the last week online. One more thing my girlfriend can work so that would be somee guaranteed income at least

Here is an idea. Move to a place with a casino with multiple spreads (1-2 up to 10-20+) only an hour or two away. Get a job. Settle down there. Take weekends and play at the casino. Over the course of a year, track (in a notebook perhaps) how you did in poker. If after a long period, you are a better winner by hour playing poker, than at your job, THEN give pro poker another thought.

I quit looking for a job several years ago because they simply dont exist.Dear God, strait out of the liberal welfair-mantality playbook. AKA Obama/She-Bitch/Edwards. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the 25k? The reason I ask, if it was from inheritance/family members death, I would feel pretty shi.tty about using that for poker, rv, etc.

If you read the 1st sentence in the OP, it says he is settling a car wreck

Dude, if you don't know which level of tournament buyins you belong, save your money....seriously. Start with micro stakes and work your way up. If you don't do that, you WILL lose at poker. You can't think that just because you have cash you can give it a shot. People in here prey on guys like that. If you don't study the game and get a ton of hands in, you will fail.

Sorry, got so caught up in rest of responses that I forgot that. My bad. In that case, I'd use all 25k for the wpt championship and hope for the best :club:

with 25k i seriously wldnt try to go to vegas with a daughter , id move out to a city you like that has decent rent and get an apartment pay a whole year off and get a part time job , with the left over money take out a % to use as a shot shld give you about 5-10k grind that up and after the year re evaluate and see where your at , going pro doesnt mean you have to go balls out and drop everything , take it year by year and who knows where it will end/start ,

this is a very easy situation. Take 10-15k and use it as a downpayment on a condo or something. Get a normal job. Since you want to play 25$ tourneys put at least 2500 online. Play in your spare time, if you do good maybe pursue it. But buying an RV and moving to Vegas to grind 2/5, which you wouldnt be properly rolled for after buying the RV, would not be the best idea. Maybe a few years back it would be, but probably not right now. Also your in Indiana, move to somewhere around Gary, not in Gary but the closest safe place to there, and maybe become a dealer. It will help your game out and you will make money at the same time

It would need to be in a place with a lot of casinos nearby. The economy is so bad here even when you make the the 3 and a half 4 hour drive to a riverboat there is a good chance they wont even be spreading the game you want to play. And as far as no knowing what level of tourney I am ready for I mean on the internet. I have noticed the huge difference in skill level vs $ amount being played for with internet players compared to live. I feel comfortable playing a 100-150 dollar touney live but I don't have much internet experience so i am sure i will start off small online. I actually suck at playing on the internet for some reason. I am sure it has a lot to do with trying to play for way to many hours straight because I have had some success. Won a 4.40 180 sngand got second in some 2 dollar tournament with like 3k people , so it isn't like I CAN'T do it , I just have leaks. And as far as get a job guy is concerned I can't. The few jobs that are around here are all physical labor and my shoulder got f@#$&$ up in the car wreck. And none of the doctors can seem to fix it. The last one told me it is tendinitis and there is nothing left to do . I have went to 3 rounds of physical therapy for it and had all the injections and it still won't quit hurting. I did some research on the internet and all the medical websites said the next step is surgery so I have to go find a new doctor and see if I can get it done. And no I am not getting public assistance or any of that shit either. I take care of my family just fine.

I appreciate the thoughtful response . I am tired of this cold weather bullshit ,I got to get somewhere warm. Maybe not living in an RV that was just an idea , I just thought it might be a good idea since you wouldn't have to pay rent lol.
Why do you live where you live if there is nothing? If you go to Vegas right now to be a pro you will fail. Take the 25k and move to a place with jobs.
That is the idea. Go somewhere I can do something. Where is the booming economy at I will head there. This place is going to be a ghost town. My buddy went out and liteally put in 20 apps the other day , I am talking taco bell or where ever and not one call back. He didnt half ass it either, dressed nice filled out apps there asked to talk to managers the whole nine, not one call back.
