Actually I think that Daniel likes Obama for his personality and the domestic policies that he keeps on promising. He promises fairness and change. I believe he's full of it though. No one can change the corruption in America, I don't care if he's the most positive leader in the world.
So you're abstaining?

One of the most powerful forces on earth is hope and that's what he's offering. Will he be able to put through all that he says he will? Probably not. But in all fairness if you read his website, he's got a better grasp on what will work than Hilary does. And he's certainly better than McCain.

In a previous post I went into long, detailed reason why it's clear that Obama is the absolute best person for the job. Highlight:- better shot versus McCain- Against war from day 1- Best choice to deal with enemies in talks- Will help alleviate world hate against America- Prefer his stance on health care to Hillary's- Inspires people to become more involved/ Great motivational speaker- Best suited to cross party lines to get things done with Republicans- Personal belief that the president is more of a figure head and decision maker than a secretary- He seems to keep church and state separate- He plays poker- He has experienced other cultures first hand, living in Kenya , Indonesia, and Hawaii That's just some of the highlights...

Is there somebody who thinks the president should be a secretary? That seems like an odd position.Shit, it's going to be my guy, isn't it?

Actually, Hillary insinuated that when she made comments that were related to her skills at essentially doing the nitty gritty work of putting plans together and that Obama isn't able to do the same kind of work she'd be able to do. Instead, Obama will HIRE people to do those jobs and oversee it, which is EXACTLY what I'd want him to be doing. I don't want a president that wastes their time on mundane things that they can hire intelligent people to do. The job is taxing and while Hillary would work night on day on something, by doing it herself, her attention to other things would be distracted. The way I heard (not what she said exactly) was that she'd be a better "worker" or "secretary" than Obama would. She's right, and I don't care! Neither does Obama who readily admitted that his papers are often in disarray and he needs people to help him keeps those things straight. I don't care for an anal secretary, give me someone who can chill, deal with the bigger issues, and understand the bigger picture (the world, not just the U.S.)

I agree... Presidents have a large staff to handle that stuff. But I still want a President who can think for himself without his staff (unlike someone very recent in office)
Agreed. I don't want a moron in office, like the current occupant, but I don't want a micro-manager, either, and that's what Hillary would be. I want a smart guy (like Obama), who thinks about the big picture (like Obama), who knows his way around the planet and not just Texas (like Obama), who would put smart people in positions of power (like Obama). I like that he keeps church and state separate, too. Around here, all the believers seem to think there should be a religious test for office, and banning it in the Constitution was some kind of evil plot. I'd begun lumping all Christians into that camp. Glad to see that I'm wrong.

There are still some of us who believe in the separation of church and state. Wish the Christians that don't would realize that it's in the Constitution for their protection as well as the protection of others.

Great list Daniel. He is obviously your choice for many reasons. I agree that he would most likely be better than McCain or Clinton. However, how is he going to help the economy? Why doesn't he talk about the Federal Reserve and the banking system? Does he even understand how money works? He is going to make government much larger. Why doesn't he talk about the PATRIOT ACT I or II, the Military Commissions Act, the loss of Habeaus Corpus in this country? He wants to keep troops not only in Iraq but all over the world and maintain their empire. How will this help alleviate world hate against America? Why doesn't he talk about troops in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan which is what is causing terrorism? He wants universal health care. Being from Canada I can tell you this is the worst possible way to conduct any service! I agree that he is an inspirational speaker, don't get me wrong. But how can you believe everything he says?I certainly don't...

A lawyer friend of mine recently wrote this and I think it's worth repeating here. I've always found him to be a very intelligent person:Two observations about the primaries. First, the polling has been WAY off. In primary elections where it has been deemed "too close to call", Obama wins by landslides. In elections where he's given a slight lead of 3-4%, he wins by landslides. In California, Clinton's landslide became a squeeker. The science of polling is taking a huge hit. I believe it's because younger folks tend to exclusively use cel phones, and are, therefore, not part of the sample group polled. This hasn't been a huge issue in the past because either that group did not vote, or their voting was similar to the sample groups. If this pattern holds true in the general election, McCain will be at a huge disadvantage in not having accurate data upon which to focus his efforts. He could dump a ton of money in Ohio, for instance, assuming it's close, only to discover he was out of it from the beginning. Second: the negative smear tactics seem to incite this guy's supporters. When Clinton tried the cocain smear in the SC primary, the reward was a 30 point loss. I predict, even in desperation, her campaign has to concede one of the more proven tactics in American politics. Karl Rove is now obsolete. Even the delusional freaks on hate radio have had to ratchet down on the "secret muslim" stuff. I heard some blowhard yesterday griping about something the guy's wife may have said, only to face about 3-4 calls FROM HIS OWN AUDIENCE telling him to let that one go! (Imagine some chipped-tooth dumb-ass southern slob calling his favorite purveyor of hate to insist that he leave the black guy alone). I mean, conventional wisdom is getting dumber every day. Here's what I have noticed from the small group of young Obama supporters orbiting my world: They REALLY don't give a s**t about labels. The old perjoritive of calling the guy a "liberal" or "socialist" has NO meaning to them. They don't much care about labels, but think it's insane that the US, alone among developed countries, does not provide universal health care. They don't understand how any society can NOT provide subsidized child care. They look at other countries, and don't understand why higher education here is not fully subsidized for qualified students. They really don't get why some old bastard is promising them "100 years" of war, and they certainly have no intention of participating in it. They don't give a damn if it's perceived as surrender, they insist on US withdrawal from Iraq, immediately. They don't care if these things are called "liberal" or "socialist". At all. So, the usual GOP attack and smear tactics are likely to backfire, in ways we haven't seen. These are all kids that have no substantial interest in politics, because it takes time away from sports. They threaten me with an Obama sticker on my car. One has been dispatched to Texas, where he's living in some private home, to work on the campaign. (All this from a kid who wouldn't give me one decent wind sprint in practices). I have a sense there's been some change in the landscape while I was sleeping. The very group who we always counted on to be the very definition of apathy and neglect appear to be motivated towards things that are not soccer or video games. I think the torch has passed from us boomers. I have no idea how Clinton nor McCain should handle this. Trying to emphasize "experience" will be met with jeers and derision, because the kids equate the term with "quit" or "surrender". Try to smear their guy with cocain or "patriotism", and they will organize with more energy, WHILE laughing at you. I think the GOP has its hands full this fall. Their principal tactic of smear and innuendo may have worn out, They have a candidate already encumbered with the promise of "100 years" of war. And the new voters they deal with have no party or specific ideological loyalties or labels. I don't know about Obama. But, like the Who said, the kids are alright.

Now that's something I can get behind is the abolition of the electorial college. It's antiquated and does not give every vote equal weight. Like here in Montana, chances are the state will go for McCain so my vote won't make a damn bit of difference anyway.
I totally agree with you on this Nimue I think the electoral college is so stupid. Gore woulda won in 2000 if there wasn't such a thing.I live in England now so am trying to do the absentee ballot thing and sent away to Michigan where I'm from and haven't heard anything from them. Anyone else on the board an American abroad and voted yet?Careybear

1st: Algore lost the election because he campaigned too heavily in the states he already won, in other words he didn't campaign based on the only way you can get elected. Now if he was too stupid to run his campaign, why would you want him to lead the country? The electoral college saved us there.2nd: The electoral college is critical for the continuance of the political conventions, which are the real key to all elections.Without political conventions, there are no balloon drops. The side that has the largest balloon drop wins the election, been true since they've done balloon drops. It's science.

Not to be mean, but your lawyer friend is an idiot.Think about what he is saying, the youth are going to lead our nation now. They will make the critical decisions. Why would you want someone to make decisions that has never gone through a recesion? Never raised a child, never owned a business?Wy would you want a group of people that on average make bad decisions on a daily basis, from driving too fast resultingin their own #1 form of death, to being easily manipulated by advertisements and Michael Moore? The truth is the youth will probably not vote anymore than they always have, very lightly. Rock the Vote failed, Vote or Die failed, Boxers or Briefs failed. The youth are too busy being young to vote.Putting your hope in the youth is stupid. If I had my way they wouldn't be allowed to vote till they owned property anyway. The fact that your lawyer friend was surprised that polling was off during a fluid primary season shows his lack of experience. Bill Clinton never won a primary until all his competitors quit. He would not have been president without Ross Perot, twice. That's why Huckabee is hanging on.

Wow a "blame" the young people post. Not to be mean, but what have the so called adults done that was so great in this country? Voted for Bush twice? The adults sit by and watch everything happen. The liberal do gooders have nothing to offer and neither do the pro-war neo-conservatives. The youth know exactly what is going on and are really the only ones standing up.Why would you have to go through a recession, raise a child, or own a business to make a good decision. None of these things are needed to know between right and wrong.

For every one educated young voter there are 200 that would vote for Snoop Dog cause they think that would be cool. From your post I think you would probably be inclined to vote Snoop.Bush has done more good for this country than you are giving him credit for. But your trust in bad sources for your political info makes me understand why you are decieved. Most young people are easily manipulated to believe whatever you think feels right. The truth is often missed by feelings.Oh Iraq war is bad, Bush must be making oil money and he lied and all the other countries hate us because we invaded Iraq.If you believe the above statement I would ask you to please not vote for the next 12 years. It's for the good of the country.

So your answer is to make the youth wait until they're as apathetic as the boomer generation has been? The boomers changed the direction of politics and the United States at an age not too much older than the youth of today in the 60's. And it's time for another revolution of that magnitude again. And you're a real idiot if you think my friend is. He was observing a phenomenon that is happening all around the country. Instead of discouraging the youth of today's participation, you should be welcoming it. After all they are the future of this country and it's time they got involved in it. It's always easy to sit around like old geezers and say that the youth of today is no good and uneducated. But do you remember not that long ago it was our parents that were saying the very same thing about us. And they weren't any more accurate than you are.

But our parents were right. In our 20's we were uninformed. We thought we had the secret to saving the world, of course -- every generation does. But there are very few people in their 20's who can talk intelligently about politics, and that's as true now as it was when I was 20. They say things like "I'm voting for Obama because he's for change", or "McCain will break down barriers to progress." But ask "what specific policy does candidate X recommend on issue Y, and how will this influence the incentives experienced by the people that are affected", and very few young people can do it. Business people who have been on the other end of similar policies can tell you exactly what will happen.

More on why Obama pwns Hillary hard:Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate. Obama or Clinton. Records of these two candidates should be scrutinized in order to make an informed decision. Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term - 6yrs. - and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law - 20 - twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress www.thomas.loc.gov, but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you. 1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site. 2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month. 3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. 4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall. 5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson. 6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea. 7. Designate Aug 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day. 8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day. 9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death. 10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship. 11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship. 12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program. 13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda. 14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death. 15. Honor John J Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive. 16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11. 17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11 18. Assist landmine victims in other countries. 19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care. 20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system. There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record. Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize. During the first - 8 - eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced 233 regarding healthcare reform, 125 on poverty and public assistance, 112 crime fighting bills, 97 economic bills, 60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills, 21 ethics reform bills, 15 gun control, 6 veterans affairs and many others. His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded **the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 - became law, **The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, - became law, **The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate, **The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, - became law, **The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, In committee, and many more. In all, since entering the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no record according to some who would prefer that this comparison not be made public. He's not just a talker. He's a doer.

You are assuming of course that these were all well thought out good intentioned pieces of legislation…I can assure you they weren’t. I don’t need to look them up or do any research to know that anybody putting out that quantity of proposed legislation has piles of garbage in it. That you can take to the bank…As a matter of fact compare it to a poker game. Some guys come in raising 7 hands out of 10 for an hour….but you believe he has a hand every time?? Uh kind of doubt that!!Writing 890 bills and cosponsoring another leads 1096 does nothing to impress me...other then lead me to speculate he leads by the shotgun approach. Spray it out there and see what sticks…Yea that is the guy I want in charge.Good Luck with that!!
