Professional Poker League

Recommended Posts

Thank you Daniel for the heads up re this new exciting project. As a recent newcomer to poker, I am already a bit bored with the all-in fests that characterize WPT final tables. The PPT broadcasts are a definite improvement, but this sounds like a completely fresh idea with only the best players involved. Can't wait to hear more!

i doubt it because nl holdem is the 'most exciting'that would be great though it it was something else.how about this idea, there are eight people playing from eight different teams so that means there are at least 8 matches-what if they each played a different form of poker?

I am wondering the same thing.
I think that is a good idea but I would lke to kink it just a bit. See one person just playing one game is boring, but if they went as far as each player from each team plays each game once randomly then it starts to get interesting and the teams real skill overall is actually shown in my oppinion.

If this league is done well, it has the possibility of being the most popular poker show on television. ESPN does a decent job of making the episodes of the ME interesting but my favorite right now is HSP. I am hopeful that the PPL will be great television and attract more people to the game.Best --Burgerman

AHhhh. Cool. missed this thread.Daniel, the other day I asked you if the PPL was related to the WPT. Poorly organized question, and what I was trying to ask (and failed miserably) was, ...Is there any chance the PPL has some sort of exclusivity clause with them or anything that might create a non-compete issue with the WPT, or HSP or other TV contracts. Im sure there isnt but I was curious. Players should be able to play any and all events whenever, wherever imo. That said, new league sounds VERY cool. Finally ... a truly great format for poker to be played and observed. I'll be up there watching from time to time for sure. LOVE the Venetian anyway...great excuse to go back. :club:

I think it should be like this:With 8 teams of 8 players, there would be 8 Single table deepstack HORSE sng, with the top 2 advancing to the second round from each table. At each table, there would be one player from each team. The second place finishers would have to play another sng with the top two advancing (The first place finishers would already have a seat guarenteed). The final ten would than meet at a final table which would be deepstack NLHE (like starting stacks of 500k, blinds starting at 1k/2k and going up slowly). Each place would "pay" out a certain amount of points, starting with 7th place. At the end of the season, the team with the most points would win money at a 10-1 $ to point ratio, Second place at a 5-1 and third place at a 3-1. Here's what the "payouts" should be per event:1. 10002. 7003. 6004. 5005. 4006. 3007. 200Again, this is not what will happen, just what I think would be really neat to see.

that would be cool and it may be close to what it actually is because Daniel said there wouldn't be a clear winner
Although he also said that the format would be more like cash games with static blinds. I would like to see that with a variation in games as mentioned earlier. I suspect this will be the case given Daniels Holdem rhetoric during the WSOP about too much NL Holdem. Looking forward to October 7th!

it propably will be great but i think the commentators will be important so its not like the PPTI think Chris Rose and Kaplan would be a great pair.
i think they need Robin WIlliams and Marcel Luske as the commentators :club:

Has the exact format of this been discussed yet? I haven't seen it discussed in any of the threads yet. Also, when will this be airing? I'm running a fantasy league for this and would like to know when we'll be able to see this

I think it is mainly gonna be no-limit holdem because based on Daniel's blog, it seemed like most of his decisions, ala Gabe Thaler and Chu, were predicated on them being good hold 'em cash game players, and not so much just cash games in general.

David is probably better known for his outstanding limit hold'em skills, but hold'em is hold'em, and David's hold'em instincts are second to none.
I would like to see some more games, but oh well. And I'm sorry Daniel couldn't get Annie Duke after she was taken with the 3rd overall pick. :club:

i'm kind of happy its going to be holdem. although i like watching and playing other games, holdem is my favorite game. watching 64 pros playing it will sure teach me (and everyone watching) more about the game

I saw the draft results on Daniel's blog and I'm curious... no Phil Hellmuth? no Johnny Chan? I am wondering what happened with those guys. It was also interesting to see that Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson and Phil Gordon were involved but no Howard Lederer, Bloch, Raymer or Hachem... too busy with the lawsuit or not invited because of the lawsuit?I am also happy to see that Chris "one hit wonder" Moneymaker is not involved. Has anybody ever milked anything, for so long with so little follow up success? I mean Raymer was incredible in his return to the WSOP as defending champ, so was Hachem... I am quite happy for Chris' success, but I am tired of seeing him first to the rail on TV all the time (see poker superstars, II, III, etc.) and then on every commercial in between...What players are not in the PPL which either surprised you, or you wish were involved?
