So last nite, while plating at Borgata with a few friends, I decided to do something a little fun. It was the first time my two friends had played in a casino. I figured I'd just **** around and probably end up losing $300 and call it quits. I started out at the 1/2NL table with the max buyin of $300. That's all my friends knew how to play. After about 2 hours I was up to $600, so I went on to play a 10/20 mixed game. Stud/Omaha. After about another 2 or 3 hours I was up to $1100. ****, I decided to try to just move up in limits again and go play 20/40 limit hold'em. Now, let me say this before I go on, normally I'd never do anything like this, but it just seemed like my night so I went with it. I know its shitty BR management. Anyway, I'm at 20/40 for only about 45 min and am already up to about $2200. Well, you know what that means, time to go to 40/80. 40/80 was a rough one for me. I was there the longest and it was a very VERY aggresive table. This is where my journey ends. And, no, I didn't lose it all. I just had been playing for almost 12 hours and was tired so I left. But I left with about 4G's in my pocket. Not a bad night at all considering I thought I'd just lose $300 and go to the bar.I'd really recommend anyone to give this a shot if they are feeling a bit frisky.

This is the way to "take a shot." "Freddie Deeb" it, baby.

If you come into it with the idea "I'm spending $300 on an evening's entertainment, one way or another" and don't really care, there's nothing wrong with playing like that. You had a good night, awesome! Just don't let a night's success mislead you into making bad decisions with your normal game and regular limits. Just because you beat 20/40 one night and survived 40/80 doesn't automatically mean it's sustainable...who knows, maybe for you 20/40 is--but until your bankroll backs it up, I wouldn't bet on it. Anyway, congratulations man.

I was looking for an old Phil Hellmuth article (at least, I think it was him) about a pro he knows who went from his last buyin at 1/2NL on a Thursday to leaving Vegas on Monday morning with over $120k in winnings. Just kept winning, and moving up, and winning, and moving up, etc, etc, etc. One of the sickest prolonged rushes I've ever heard about.Couldn't find it though, I thought it was one of his old Cardplayer articles but now I'm thinking it may have been in his gawrawful book of poker anecdotes. Anyone know the story I'm talking about? I'd love to read it again but I haven't had any luck rediscovering it. Nice run OP, I'm hoping for a similar story when I come home from my next Vegas trip. I don't play for "life-money", so taking a shot on my last weekend there would be a good story to come home with, if nothing else.

Wow, I expected much more negativeness. It's cool to hear there are good people out there that are psyched. I'm always psyched to read when people do well. As for the question above about whether it was good playing or good cards, I'd have to say it was a bit of both. I think I did well caused I moved around a lot actually. And when I first get to a new table I am very focused and pay very close attention. Good cards, good folds, good calls, etc. Just one of those nights that makes you feel good. I lost one big pot with a monster hand and took a 10 min walk so I would not tilt, which worked wonders. I highly recommend it. Might have helped to that when I can back I won a huge pot that was capped every street.

So wait, either your story is BS or you suck at telling it.you went to 40/80 with 2200.00 and that wasnt a good table for you, "I didnt lose it all, but had been playing 12 hours so left" which sounds like you didnt stay at 40/80 for long cuz of the aggressivness, but now claim to have left up 4k?so where did the 2000 more come from? the 40/80 which u didnt like?

Yep. it did. I was tired and it seemed like the table was a little hostel too. I don't mean just aggressive poker either, but it seemed like a lot of the players would rather be engaged in fisticuffs then poker Plus, how does winning 1800 more dollars at 40/80 sound crazy. the average pot at this table when I was playing was like 500 give or take 50 bucks. So is it really hard to believe I won 3 or 4 pots in the course of 3-4 hours?

No, its just that you make it seem like an added 2k is given?when in reality, we all know thats a croc. 25BB's in a couple hours? since standard win rate might be 1.5BB's per hour / 100 onlineits obv could be very standard to win a few pots and leave, i'm just saying, for the kids out there. Dont think that playing 40/80 means you make thousands a night and can drop out of college

Remember that movie that just came out? Yeah, ooh scary. I'll probably never stay at a hostel in Europe.Royal, come to San Diego, the 40/80 here is that good.

That's definitely a good thing, heh. I definitely get what you're saying and agree that this kind of "one time shot taking" generally ends with the person broke and only feeling the lint in their pocket.
