Just wanted to get a little factoid in here: A No. 7 seed has defeated a No. 2 in each of the last nine postseasons.I'm stoked, there are some unbelievable first round match ups.
The 4/5 matchup in each conference is incredible.

My fearless predictions:Eastern ConferenceBuffalo Sabres (1) vs. New York Islanders (8)Buffalo in 5Note: Dubey will be wishing he could catch a toke, as the Sabres will light 'em up like a Dexter spliff! B) New Jersey Devils (2) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (7)Devils in 6Atlanta Thrashers (3) vs. New York Rangers (6)Rangers in 6Ottawa Senators (4) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (5)Pittsburgh in 7Buffalo Sabres (1) vs. New York Rangers (6)Buffalo in 6New Jersey Devils (2) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (5)Pittsburgh in 6East Final:Buffalo Sabres (1) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (5)Buffalo in 7Western ConferenceDetroit Red Wings (1) vs. Calgary Flames (8)Detroit in 6Anaheim Ducks (2) vs. Minnesota Wild (7)Anaheim in 7Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Dallas Stars (6)Vancouver in 6Nashville Predators (4) vs. San Jose Sharks (5)Nashville in 6Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Nashville Predators (4)Nashville in 6Anaheim Ducks (2) vs. Vancouver Canucks (3) Vancouver in 7West Final:Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Nashville Predators (4)Nashville in 6Stanley Cup Finals:Buffalo Sabres (1) vs. Nashville Predators (4)Buffalo in 6

QFT!Enough so that they should get rid of the stupid Division winner gets automatic top 3 seed! :club: Having one of Ottawa/Pittsburgh and one of Nashville/San Jose out after one round is criminal.Especially when one of the Thrashers and Rangers moves on....

WEST(1) Detroit vs (8) Calgary I think Calgary is a good sleeper pick because they now have some offense to go along with Kiprusoff. If Kipper finds his groove the Flames can ride him a long way. I really liked Detroit a few weeks ago, but they seemed to have picked up a few injuries at maybe the worst possible time. Lidstrom is not 100%, Kronwall is out, Zetterberg should be back, but will he be 100%? Now Bertuzzi has a mild concussion. The Wings seem to be falling apart before the gruelling playoffs begin. Calgary in 6.(2) Anaheim vs (7) Minnesota Anaheim is just too strong here. They can have either Pronger or Niedermayer on the ice at all times. Minnesota will have to play a flawless game to beat Anaheim. Anaheim in 5.(3) Vancouver vs (6) Dallas Dallas is a sleeping giant. They can absolutely shut down an offense and Vancouver's offense is a prime target. Marty Turco has something to prove and Brendan Morrow is November fresh. Stars in 6.(4) Nashville vs (5) San JoseSan Jose is a bipolar team. They can look great one game and then absolutely awful the next. As for Nashville, they seem more like a collection of parts than a team...not that the parts are all that bad. San Jose in 7.EAST(1) Buffalo vs (8) NY IslandersThe Islanders should win at least a game and maybe two. Buffalo in 5. (2) New Jersey vs (7)Tampa Bay This should be an interesting series. I think Brodeur is the difference. New Jersey in 7.(3) Atlanta vs (6) NY Rangers I don't like Atlanta's game at all. I think Lundqvist is in a groove and the Ranger's battle for the playoffs down the stretch has helped them get in the playoff mode early. Rangers in 6.(4) Ottawa vs (5) PittsburghPittsburgh matches up very well against Ottawa, but I think the Senators will prove too much for the inexperienced Pens. Ottawa in 6.
I have all of the same 1st round winners except I have Nashville over SJ in 7 which is kind of a pick em anyway.

DET vs SJ in the Western Final (they have had great series in the past)BUF vs Ott in the Eastern Final (this rivalry can go to the next level if this happens) so both teams can leave the Leafs alone.Buff vs Det finally 2 number 1 seeds meet in the finals. Also just had a guy drop $500 on my lap he wants Minny +160, SJ -120, Ott -185, NYR -105, and NJ -210. So Iam cheering all the opposites, or I may just pass off the bets with my on-line book.

I haven't looked it up, but I dont think either a 4 or 5 seed has ever made it to the finals.
I vaguely recall Carolina being a 4th or 5th seed back when they lost to Detroit. I could be way off though.EDIT - nope, they had the 3rd seed... Also, 1990-2000, NJ was a 4th seed, and they won the cup.

a quick thing regarding the 4th/5th seed teams. when's the last time either the 4th or 5th team had the most wins in a conference? let alone both of them. ill bet never. especially with last years playoffs, you can throw a lot of stuff out the window.

One Canuck win away from predicting the winner of every first round series...
Yeah, same, except I homer-picked the Pens. These series' have pretty much gone exactly as expected this year.

The teams advancing have gone pretty much as expected, but the actual series have been a little surprising to me. I didn't think Atlanta would get swept, in fact I would have thought more series would go past five games in the east. In the west, I was surprised to see Minnesota win a game, and the Preds to only win one game.

Same here, with 3 series predictions being perfect (ie. correct # of games).

Conference Semi-FinalsNYR vs Buffalo-Should be an interesting series. Sabres have more depth on forward and defense for sure, but Rangers goaltending has the edge. I don't think the Sabres have faced the Rangers with Avery so he may create some problems for them. I think high-scoring series with Sabres on top. Buffalo in 6.Ottawa vs New Jersey-The Sens won the season series vs the Devils and I think they can win this one with their deep squad. The Devils missing Colin White might be a huge factor as he plays like 25 min/game. Ottawa in 6.Anahiem vs Vancouver-The Ducks are simply bigger and tougher than the Canucks, and they beat 'em up pretty bad in the season series (3-0-1). Nucks could REALLY use Matt Cooke and Ryan Kesler vs the Ducks as they bring a tireless forechecking/agitating presence to the ice. If the Nucks' offense is as weak as last series, they don't stand a chance. Anahiem in 5.Detroit vs San Jose-Great matchup here. I think the Sharks are deeper in offense and can wear the Wings down. San Jose in 7.

Alright, I sucked in round one(1/4 in west, 3/4 in east)Conference Semifinals(1) Detriot v. (5) San Jose; If Detriot had to take 6 games to beat Calgary, no way they beat San Jose. San Jose in 6(2) Anaheim v. (3) Vancouver; I just think Luongo will be up against too many offensive weapons, It will be a good series though. Anaheim in 7(1) Buffalo v. (6) New York; Atlanta wasn't that good, New York just won't be able to compete at all. Buffalo in 5(2) New Jersey v. (4) Ottawa; I think Brouder got into his groove the last 2 games against TB, if even he starts giving up 3 a game again, I think NJ still wins. New Jersey in 6(2) Anaheim vs. (5) San Jose(1) Buffalo vs. (2) New Jersey(2) New Jersey vs. (2) Anaheim.....again
