serge 904
Hockey fans can be blinded by their own teams abilities or inabilities.lol...yes its true...I am not admitting to anything..but its true
Speed Limit 0
just got in with a chat with Barry Melrose:Adam (Durham, New Hampshire): Do you agree with the Tocchet resolution or should he have been kept out of the league for longer/less? Barry Melrose: (3:28 PM ET ) Two years is a long time. If they find he bet on hockey, I think it should be for longer, but there's no proof so far. It's a pretty severe penalty. He's a good guy who loves the sport and who has given his life to the sport, and I want him to get a second chance.
serge 904
Lets be honest..What Tocchet did was nothing compared to so many other crimes..This maybe stupid posting it on a "poker" forum and most of us gamble on sports everyday but its ridicolous....Even if he bet on hockey, obviously its not good but if he doesnt bet on games he has a control over big deal...I am positive a lot of NHL players bet on sports and some on hockey...The Mark Bell incident is something closer to the Leafs fan but he got "only " 15 games and Tocchet is essentially been banned from the game 2 years..and do I need to bring up Heatley again? Be sure to include how the Snyders didn't even want to see heatley punished.
serge 904
I know its a sore spot for people but Heatley should not be playing in the NHL after what he did..anyways it pisses me off everytime I think about it
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
This is my complaint. the guy got a HAT TRICK. I don't care how fortunate it was that he managed it, YOU GET A STAR IF YOU HAVE THREE GOALS.the media so often butchers the three stars, I guess it shouldn't surprise me...agree, Mueller should have been in there somewhere. My point was that Marchant truly deserved first star. I thought you were arguing someone other than he deserved it.Many people believe goals/assissts are what makes a first star, I don't. The guy played a great game.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Not exactly random after my last post but......Marchant, Pahllson, Moen, RNiedermayer....all very underrated.
coesillian 0
I know its a sore spot for people but Heatley should not be playing in the NHL after what he did..anyways it pisses me off everytime I think about itso you think what Heatley did is worse than what Bell did. Is reckless driving (speeding in a Ferrari) worst than drinking and driving and fleeing the scene of an accident?
strategy 4
so you think what Heatley did is worse than what Bell did. Is reckless driving (speeding in a Ferrari) worst than drinking and driving and fleeing the scene of an accident?I know you didn't ask me, but driving badly should be just as punishable as driving drunk. Fenxis 99
I know you didn't ask me, but driving badly should be just as punishable as driving drunk. Not to excuse Heatley but people wrecking high performance cars is almost an epidemic this days.
serge 904
so you think what Heatley did is worse than what Bell did. Is reckless driving (speeding in a Ferrari) worst than drinking and driving and fleeing the scene of an accident?I actually believe that reckless driving is worse than drinking and driving...When you drive like that you arent even impaired by alcohol and you make the stupid decision to speed and be reckless....Dont get me wrong drinking and driving is also a scum of the earth thing to do....For some reason Heatley went unpunished for essentially killing someone...Now i know he didnt do it on purpose and he probably still is haunted by the death of his friend but essentially the NHL didnt do anything... No idea what's the difference between first and second degree vehicular homicide..?
serge 904
You are right, but the NHL did not punish him...Suspending Bell for 15 games AFTER he has been sentenced to 6 months in jail is ludicrous...And nothing personal on Heatley as I cant imagine how painful it was what he went through but the suspensions dont match... MapleLeafpoker 1,462
And nothing personal on Heatley as I cant imagine how painful it was what he went through but the suspensions dont match...I agree. Because he was hurt himself, it's like Heatley got a free pass from the NHL.Problem is, I guess people think speeding isn't a real crime. I know I do it all the time, probably at levels way more than I should. So I shouldn't be so quick to judge what happened to him.But I think if the same thing heppened again today, Heatley would be suspended.
runthemover 39
yes serge. the NHL waiting to see what criminal punishment Bell would get is just stupid. where do they get off doing that?
Fenxis 99
You are right, but the NHL did not punish him...Suspending Bell for 15 games AFTER he has been sentenced to 6 months in jail is ludicrous...I think Bell received that suspension specifically because he was due to serve it during the off-season (aka: "getting" away with it). serge 904
yes serge. the NHL waiting to see what criminal punishment Bell would get is just stupid. where do they get off doing that?your sarcastic comments arent warranted...The NHL should worry about what happens on the ice.. Fenxis 99
The NHL should worry about what happens on the ice..To a certain extent yes -- they (pro leagues) really should only be suspending people for on-ice performance (or in the case of Vick, suspending people pending court cases). serge 904
I agree ...Society is punishing these athletes for what they have done in their personal life...Gary Bettman is not a policeman or a judge last time I checked..
Fenxis 99
I agree ...Society is punishing these athletes for what they have done in their personal life...Gary Bettman is not a policeman or a judge last time I checked..The leagues are being used to hold these athletes accountable for their actions when our court systems fail. Suspension shouldn't be use for when a player gets off "lightly". Likewise, once a person has served their time then they should have an opportunity to redeem themselves (within reason / for non-habitual offenders).

gruven 530
The leagues are being used to hold these athletes accountable for their actions when our court systems fail. Suspension shouldn't be use for when a player gets off "lightly". Likewise, once a person has served their time then they should have an opportunity to redeem themselves (within reason / for non-habitual offenders).every standard NHL player contract includes a 'morals' clause, which states that players agree to be law abiding role models, and if they engage in conduct that's considered immoral, improper, or illegal, they are subject to punishment from the league. So Gary Bettman is well within his rights as commissioner to suspend a player for conduct off the ice.
