Very nice :ts I used to have a working TiVo... now it's run out of space because it's filled with 90+ episodes of Ninja Warrior! (that show is really addicting!)A quick question for those of you who have recently requested checks from FTP, how long is it taking these days to receive them?

FWIW i am on both the loose and the passive end (after having experimented with styles i am best at this style) .. I play 26/21 @ 20NLthe reason that I am so passive is that I will call behind with big hands on occassion and look to outplay people post flop... it also gives me the opportunity to play the ocassional suited connector etc in position. I also 3-bet less from the blinds that I used to, due to the fact that people will call almost all bluff 3-bets, so I will call with AQ or TT type hands from the blinds and look to play favourable flops against weak opponents.I would recommend that you attempt to STOP calling preflop EXCEPT if there is a good reason for it.A wise man (NoSup4u) once said .. each time you put money in the pot it is an investment. Some investments come off and some don't, but you want to have a _reason_ for investing.
ty for input.I also do this, prolly more than i should, i prolly should be 3betting these a little more. Against TAG I will often just call a raise with AQ in the co or otb and see a flop.I forgot how I did it, but i got the graph on HEM to show me how I did when money went in pre compared to post flop. Im a loser overall pre (although I usually only get money in pre with AA, KK, AK and sometimes QQ, but i prefer not to with QQ). Post flop play Im a winner at, so I think seeing flops and playing against villans post flop is a better choice for me. I would be interested in comments on this.

Anyway, the relevency is that my poker career is now old enough that I've seen a lot of players come and go, specifically tournament players. I am totally open to being proven wrong, but my gut tells me that ironing out MTT variance, even online, can take years if not decades yet there are still lots of people who play MTTs for a living. Certainly I think live tournaments are almost purely luck driven, as it's not possible to play enough of them in a year to make up a solid and statistically meaningful sample. I think that's why a lot of people were put off with Vanessa Rousso making some comment that she paid her dues by playing a whopping 80 tournaments online and has had both a million dollar score and a several hundred thousand dollar score. My buddy USCPhildo is one of the best tournament players out there, with a very long stretch of dominating tournaments... and he's never had a 6-figure score. Her comments definitely rubbed me the wrong way, but to say she's alone in that category wouldn't be fair. Alex Jacob once said in an interview during his hot streak that he was running above expectation. I was so happy to see a very good player understand that even though he's sick, he still ran stupidly hot. It's also why players like Brandon Cantu bother me as well. He runs just retardedly hot for his entire stack again and again, and doesn't even bother to tip when he hits a big win. His big run in the Main Event this year included 2 suckouts very deep (one against David Benefield). I'm not going to do the math here, but although he failed to make the Final Table those suckouts were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions.[...from LJJones blog on cardrunners.Thought Mark would appreciate this.
