mhoward29 0
Own a 3 bedroom house in North Carolina right below 1500 sq ft paying 720 mnth. for it.... Its also on almost a half an acre.. Its almost doubled in value in the 5 years I have owned it. I live outside of Portland, OR and I have a 3 bed, 2 bath 2 story home on a quarter acre lot and I pay $1500 a month. That includes all my property taxes though. Its getting really expensive up here.

KTW 0
I agree. $800 a month Mortgage? I have a new small 2,057 square foot home and a $3,000 Mortgage. We get killed down here in FL with all that crap. My property taxes were $6,000 last year. That is a tad much for a home that has a "taxable" value of about $250K.
El Guapo 8
people give me crap all the time for living in ca with the housing cost so high here, but we have one of the lowest property taxes in the country!
grocery_mony 8
What do you ussually play at the Venetian Jeremy. I was there last week and the 1/2nl was yummy. That combined with the deepstack tourneys and the level of service they give everyone there makes this room my new favorite.
JeremyG 0
Well seeing as though you guys are all waiting with your minds in a tizzy I thought I'd check in.First of all, $800 mortgage is what you pay when you have a nice starter house near South Bend, Indiana, 1700sqft on a cul-de sac, with $20k down and 5.75 interest. As for an update, you guys are crazy, you think I'm too stupid to realize I wasn't on a big time heater. I even posted that I knew that wouldn't last. You people need to read more thoroughly.Since my last post I've been working 60 hours/week but playing on Friday/saturday for 3 or 4 hours, too tired to play. Yes I've had a couple losing sessions (3 in a row actually) and I had some winning sessions.Overall I'm still WAY up since being in Vegas, and my wife is up significantly as well.Took the day off work today (I may be changing jobs, the sub-prime mortgage industry is falling apart) to have a couple interviews and decided to go play at Santa Fe Station, The 1/2/NL game. It's all locals and all decent players but I was able to eek out a $243 profit in 3 hours. Admitedly $150 of that came in one hand when I called a raise out of position with 7/8 suited, flop as A77 and the raiser was too proud to lay down AK. Stacked him. The other $93 was just solid play, playing position and making moves when the time was right. To be more clear, we still do not intend on playing poker for a living. We are both good, profitable players who are far from going broke. I will say, though, that once our house sells we're each adding $5k to the bankrolls to be able to play $5/10/NL and 15/30 limit when/if we want to.Oh check the sig for a little gift I got for myself and the wife a week ago. It's wonderful not having to finance this stuff, just use the commission checks and some poker profits.

Ron_Mexico 4,219
Or maybe you just suck at poker!? j/kI didn't rule that possibility out, but I didn't see any other big stacks, so that calmed me a bit.

Dratj 0
This is the basement in the house we have for sale.... but that's in Indiana. No basements in Vegas. no basements in vegas? seriously?
nutzbuster 7
no basements in vegas? seriously? It's true. The ground in Vegas is very similar as the ground here in Phoenix. Much of that ground is riddled with massive pockets of rock hard soil called caliche. It's as hard as granite and often times excavation for construction projects requires the use of small explosives to break it up and dig it out. This caliche is mainly the reason that most homebuilders chose not to build basements here, as the cost of excavating the hole alone often times equals the cost of the construction of the house. You can find basement homes out here but they are rare, typically in custom homes.
finztotheleft 0
I know what you mean. My wife and I pay $2400/month for a modest house in Massachusetts, and we were able to put $30,000 down on it. I can't wait to get out of the northeast.Where in Mass are you ?Prices are high here, although areas of California are much worse. Despite the cold (we ran out of oil last night when it was bitterly cold , they miscalculated their "automatic delivery."), I still wouldn't want to be anywhere else. An acre of pine forest (with neighbors with 12 and 13 acres) and the beach 5 minutes away and skiing (for the kids) 30 minutes away.......I'm just missing a casino. If they build one in Plymouth, I'll be all set.Jeremy.....keep doing what you are doing ! It sounds like you are positioning your family quite well. Take your time beforemoving up in limits.....you know those downswings will happen. Get home early more often and send your wife out to a few evening tourneys ! The only problem with poker being a shared hobby is if you sit at different tables, you don't get to spend your "date" time together. It must be great though, for both of you, to have a mate that "get's it".
