king_tanner 84
Don't forget to set your dvr's for the Edgar/Faber card. The only line I was interested in was Under 4.5 rounds at +180 for the main event. The Gegard/Phillipou fight is interesting because they have such contrasting styles. I'm expecting Gegard to overpower him and sit on him most of the fight, but it would be cool to see Phillipou with another highlight KO. This season of TUF has been shit so far. None of the fighters seem to be any good. I don't think the gym vs gym idea is working, it would work if they had their high profile UFC guys already under contract as contestants on the show, but they don't and I don't care about watching these crap amateurs. They keep saying Nova Unioa (sp?) where Aldo and Barao train vs Team Alpha Male for next season would be great, but again I would want their main fighters to fight, I don't give a shit about the amateurs
Ron_Mexico 4,219
They need to do another season like season 4. Dudes with some UFC fights under their belt and a last shot type of deal.
king_tanner 84
the bellator card tomorrow shows how badly behind the UFC they still are. I haven't heard of any of the fighters except Kendall Grove and wtf Kendall Grove in a main event??? In both the main and the co-main a guy is 3 pounds overweight I'll watch it anyways because a lot of times these garbage fighters don't give a **** and really try and brawl
king_tanner 84
Wow Machida vs Romero. That one will be weird. A counterstriker vs whatever the hell Romero does. I think it will definitely show if Machida is still top 5 or not

Gonna try and motivate us lazy Floridians with a Cuban headliner
Scroom 436
Machida is wildly overrated.

These are just elevated sparring matches because there is little penalty for losing, if fact, I think they book these as exhibitions so it doesn't even have an effect on "professional record." I could be mistaken about that though. There is absolutely no incentive to "leave it all in the cage" and try to finish.
king_tanner 84
Disagree with that. They are trying to get UFC contracts. If you lose a fight but put on a good show you could get another shot. If you lose and don't give it your all that is likely the end of them ever getting in the UFC And if we are looking at the competition, I don't anticipate a guy who has lost one of these early bouts to get another shot. Maybe the guy who lost in the recent episode but he would deserve a shot because he fought hard. The other losers have been complete garbage, and if it was a tactic to fight like shit just to save them for later Dana White would absolutely lose his shit. They have mentioned that some guys might not fight at all, I can't imagine them giving one of these losers another fight while others haven't fought
king_tanner 84
Scram beat me to it but Machida is not top 5. Are you talking middleweight or pound for pound?I was talking middleweight. #6 is Romero and can maybe beat Machida. #7 is Gegard who Machida beat recently. #8 is Kennedy who is hurt and might not fight in the UFC again. #9 and above are garbage. Where do you rank Machida? (If you were talking middleweight)
king_tanner 84
The bellator card wasn't good. Halsey is really scary though. He seems really well rounded. It would be cool to see him in the UFC (as long as he can figure out th weight cut)
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Edgar Faber, meh. Why can't faber be more active? He can't strike with strikers, especially if they have good TDD. Watched Mousassi fight too. Meh again. Standard game plan against Costas. As I was fast forwarding, I think I saw 2 other fights go the distance too.

king_tanner 84
I actually enjoyed the card. Co-main and main sucked. I don't really blame the fighters though. That is just Gegard's game and they need to match him up with better fighters. Faber and Edgar are too similar and fast, they were both just dodging each other's punches the whole time with Edgar being slightly quicker and connecting more Lots of undercard fights were good. The one at the end of the prelims was pretty insane. Munoz retiring was a cool moment also. Magny fight was good. Nover fight was good but the judges f'ed it up big time. I was entertained
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Munoz had a good performance. Barnett took a bit of a beating on that gnp
Scroom 436
Francis James Edgar (his name isn't really Francis James, but it sounds like the kind of name someone would be called by when their mother was mad at them or to smugly pronounce their crazy skill) is probably my favorite fighter, so I am biased on that fight. Still can't figure out why I hate all lower weight classes but absolutely love Edgar. Maybe its because he doesn't fight like a midget. I think this line was not accurate though @ -400 so the only bet had on this was a medium-small on Magny.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Edgar absolutely fights like a small person. He's no different from Mughty Mouse, footwork, angles, in and out and the occasional shot. Don't get me wrong, it's effective and he's great, but that's what it is
king_tanner 84
At least in this fight he was absolutely fighting like a midget. His fights don't always go like that though. Faber is really good and it is hard to hit him I think it's funny that people are trying to discredit Faber on Twitter. The guy is 35+, and is only a smidge weaker than the #1 contender. I don't care if Faber loses his next 5 fights, he is still a hall of famer
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Faber is great and has a fantastic skill set to beat all but the cream of the crop. Dude can scramble like no other, solid wrestling, vicious guillotine, and decent enough stand up.
Scroom 436
Anyone bashing Faber because of that fight is a retard.
Scroom 436
Glover vs OSP @ Fight Night August 8th. Excited for that fight. Like Glover, may bet depending on line.
king_tanner 84
Both have looked good and bad. I thought Glover looked horrible in his last fight which was a loss to Phil Davis.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
Must watch card this weekend. Excited to see Rumble ko Cormier. Not even sure why. DC seems nice enough, but I think he's made his bones beating cans. Just think how much better this card was without Khabib and Bones pulling out. I deleted 3 eps of TUF from my DVR. 1st two bored me nearly to death.
king_tanner 84
The recent episode finally featured some UFC caliber talent. But just FF to the fight, there is nothing else worth watching in the episode
Spademan 94
DC seems nice enough, but I think he's made his bones beating cans. Speaking of bones: and going 5 rounds with the one of the greatest pfp fighters in history? The bones thing was a play on Jon "Bones" Jones. Which was obvious but I thought the post was too short and uninteresting. Still didn't seem enough so I added the current sentence. Again. Ok. Satisfied.
