bdc30 0
There seems to be enough interest in MMA on here to keep a good thread going about possible matchups, fight gossip, etc, etc.To start it off, I'll rant about the "comeback" of Randy Couture. I think he'll be beaten mercilessly by the champ, then get a bout against Cro Cop, be beaten mercilessly again, and fade back in to his commentator jacket.
ShakeZuma 585
I don't really agree with you on this one. I think Cotoure has a good chance against Silvia, mainly because Silvia hasn't done anything in the past 2 fights to impress me at all. Maybe he's just holding out, who knows. But honestly, I want Silvia to win, in hopes of an eventual Silvia vs. Cro Cop card. Man, that would be frickin sweet.

Monson and Arlovski, plus if you add Asseurio Silva too weren't able to do anything against him because of his size and takedown defense (holding onto the cage in the Silva fight).Unfortunately, I think this is gonna be another snoozefest with Sylvia winning by unanimous decision. Looking at his past with wrestling, he looked like he could have ridiculous, but he's lost like his last, what, 5 fights? maybe one win in there? kind of a shame.I still like the darkie though. Then he was in the hospital recently because one of his organs shut down, probably steroid related. He was fun to watch though. It was a kill or get killed type of fighting. Yoda 1
I'm excited to see Hughes and Franklin back in the ring. They seemed unstoppable for a while then just got suddenly beaten down. Overly cocky? Or just not good enough? We will find out on their 2nd attempts to rise to the top.I can't stand Sylvia and hope Couture drops him. He may be big but it only takes one solid thump. bdc30 0
I'm excited to see Hughes and Franklin back in the ring..I wouldn't say "excited" but I'm definitely curious to see what happens. Like you say, they were supposedly "THE" guys in the sport, then they coached the Ultimate Fighter show, then were both thumped, badly.

I dont want to say he is the worst champ but he is definately the most unexciting, he hasnt done anything fun to watch in his last few fights starting with the Arlovski 3 match. I think couture has a shot but like with shamrock we see that age definately is a factor in todays MMA

Actuary 3
I agree. This one will definitely be a great fight. Diego by decision. Maybe they'll give this guy a title shot one year.Any one know why Diego was booed a while back afte a fight?Sorry, I foget the details; except Joe seemd confused by it and I never heard an explanation*****************When did grappling stop being the best main skill to have?I think it's interesting to see the trends in the UFC.Has submission defense gotten so good; that more focus is on winning the standup? And, I still have this void from, perhaps, UFC 26-ish to 33-ish, durng the Tito reign..I think it was during the ownership changes. I'd like to read more about the early years - pre sanctioning.I'd also like to read more about the porn industry.**************8Andre Silva looked very beatable to me. I've heard he can mail it in sometimes. I'm loving U-tube (yeah, I usually catch on late, I'm old)****************8"Alyssa Lies"listen and don't cry. I dare you.
SpiderGuard 0
I agree. This one will definitely be a great fight. Diego by decision. Maybe they'll give this guy a title shot one year.Diego will have a hard time winning by decision against the dry humping goodness of Josh Koscheck. I think he'll win, but if it goes to decision it'll probably be because Koscheck smothered him for 15 minutes. It'll be a close fight, but has the potential to be a disastrous fight. When did grappling stop being the best main skill to have?I think it's interesting to see the trends in the UFC.Has submission defense gotten so good; that more focus is on winning the standup? And, I still have this void from, perhaps, UFC 26-ish to 33-ish, durng the Tito reign..I think it was during the ownership changes. I'd like to read more about the early years - pre sanctioning.A couple things have changed the game from grappling to more of a kickboxing game. One is Zuffa wanting to book more "exciting" fighters. Exciting means a standup war like Bonnar/Griffin. The other is that ground and pound died with the careers of Tito and Chuck. They were the two top level ground and pound guys, and once they left the spotlight the rest of the promotion seemed to prefer to stand. What do you want to know about "the early days?" Rorion Gracie wouldn't allow any amateur wrestlers with submission defense to enter the first 4 UFCs. That's a fun fact.
SpiderGuard 0
From the Jackson/Cro Cop thread: imo, they are getting very deep in many weight classes but need to do a better job of matching up competitive fights and get past this "soup can vs title contender" stage. The making of fights has been really strong in the UFC lately from a business standpoint. The last PPV accomplished two major things:1) Introduced Cro Cop as the sick, twisted killer that he is. Plenty of people (I think they're estimating between 600,000 and 700,000) bought the show to see that.2) Reminded people that Anderson Silva is a bad mother-******. They need to establish him as a top champion so his big defenses down the line draw a bigger audience. The point is to not waste several huge drawing fights at the same time. They get diminishing marginal returns, and it costs them a fortune to book the top fighters in drawing positions.
SpiderGuard 0
OK, I'm going to keep replying to this thread because I like talking MMA.Fabricio Werdum is fighting Andre Arlovsky at UFC 70. That's going to be a great match. Cro Cop vs. Gabriel Gonzaga in the main event.

Go with Diaz if you want to bet an underdog, as he's dropping to lightweight and is probably tough at that weight. Overeem feels like a bad bet. Shogun wins that fight more than 4/5 times. I skipped over the Nog fight, at first glance I thought it was Rodrigo, not Rogerio -- you're right, that would've been worth a small bet anyway. What a card though, lots of action and knockouts -- the Diaz vs Gomi fight was an absolute war. For those who didn't watch, Henderson, Diaz, Trigg all won -- Overeem lost -- and Noguiera got knocked out badly early in the first round. Well worth the $$ imho
Canuckickstan 2
This was a much better card than the last UFC card IMO. I wish I had spent the money to go to Vegas for this one instead. Well worth the PPV.
