Running A Blackjack Table

Recommended Posts

Next weekend is my brother's Stag & Doe for his wedding. And Im in charge of running the blakjack table we are going to have to make some extra $.So I went to the rental store and rented:the table (which is a stand up 6 person table complete with chip tray)a plastic card shoeand bought 6 decks of bicycle's ( all red )I intend on using my own chips, ( the hall insists on changing all cash into chips to bet... it's the law ).Has anyone ever run a blackjack table that has any helpful tips for me ?Is it worth getting one of those cheap card shufflers? because god knows i dont want to shuffle 6 decks together.Should I look for an assistant? to do cash, and chip changes ?

First worry about if anyone is even going to go to your blackjack tables, what limits your offering and how are you going to rake it? I personally wont do a house game for $ thats why theres Casinos :club: GL

umm how does one 'rake' a blackjack game? other than the actual $ the house winsset some limits, cuz you could lose $, and make them play ONLY chips, you dont want one of your drunk buddies gettin in a tizzle when he loses his rent $

I have never seen or heard of a stag and doe party where you could actually win money. I mean the whole purpose is to raise money for the wedding. Would totally suck to do all this and end up with less then you started. Maybe just set a time limit for "x" dollars. $1/minute or something like that. People will glady donate $20 for 20 minutes of entertainment. Maybe have some kind of braggers prize or something for the person who ends up with the most chips at the end of the night to provide some sort of competition and to keep people playing.

lol my bad! I"m jst in "poker mode" obviously there isn't no rake! Its BlackJack! Just have rules listed so everyone could see them, offer free drinks to keep the player enertained and once in awhile surprise your customers by ordering some pizza, have blackjack tourneys and HAVE FUN!! :club:

Whenever I've played the way the house really makes money is to have the rule that all ties go to the house (instead of being a push). This is an enormous advantage and will guarantee the house makes money if the game is played for the duration of the stag +doe. It's often easier and faster to pay blackjacks at 2:1, but this is an advantage to the players (still more than offset by the ties rule).Definitely set a betting limit, i.e. $1-$5.I wouldn't bother getting a card shuffler, but you know your shuffling skills better. Also, I hope your chips are secure enough to use in the blackjack game. If there's a poker tourney going on elsewhere in the hall, the chips had better be different or you will get some cheaters. I've always just used $1 and $2 coins, but that's a lot easier here in Canada. :club: Mikeedit: I looked back and saw you're from ON, as well. I have played stag+does with cash at the blackjack tables here, your hall must just be sticklers for the rules.

Shuffle the 6 decks together and play until about 1 to 1.5 decks. You won't have to worry about card counters at a stag and doe.And do what an above poster said. House takes all ties. That ASSURES no card counters and almost no way you can lose.Deal really fast.Have fun.

If you are goning to do this for real there area couple of things that you will need to know. Shuffling is not a problem, just shuffel the cards in double deck quantities and then stack the shuffled cards together. Dont do the ties go to the house thing. Most people wont appreciate it and it will cause conflicts because they WONT READ YOUR POSTED RULES. If your table max is going to be 5 dollars a hand you will need a working bank (the chips in your tray) of around 2K and if the game is popular another 5k for additional fills. Most people if they are going to play for a while will buy in for a hundred. if your table has 6 positions thats 600 bucks in play leaving you with 1400 to cover any table action. A bad run for a dealer at 5 dollars a hand can very quickly cost the house several hunded dollars. Make sure you are funded enough to cover all the chips in play. You dont want to get caught short at the end of the night. Just do 1.5x the bet for Blackjack and make a little chart of the payouts if you need it. Dont get an autoshuffler, they s u c k. Dont worry about an assistant but you should probably have 1 or 2 other dealers. 1 can be the assistant, 1 can be on break and the other can be dealing. I dont know how long the party is going to last but dealing black jack for 5-6 hours straight (without a break) is horrible.Erik

1. Take the 10's out of the deck. This increases the house edge substantially, but people don't really know that, and at a Stag and Doe most wouldn't care, and if they do, they'll probably just won't play.2. Use a 6-deck or 8-deck shoe, and then shuffle everytime the shoe is around 3/4 done.3. Let people double down, but don't let them split their aces, and if you do let them split their aces, only one card per ace (i.e. you can't hit the ace again).4. Have the house take the pushes. 5. If anyone complains, remind them that the purpose is to make money for the wedding party.6. Make sure you're not dealing more than an hour and a half straight at one time. You'll start making mistakes.7. Do NOT use easily replicated chips (i.e. the dice poker chips) that anyone can walk in with.8. If anyone is going to cheat, they're going do it most likely from the first or sixth/seventh spots (first and last spots). Watch those the closest.

What is a stag and doe party? bachelor party?
A stag and doe (in some parts known as a buck and doe) party is sort of like a charity fundraiser party for a bride and groom before they get married. Friends and family of both are invited. Generally there are various games (not necessarily gambling) that are played and cost some amount of money to play. There are prizes which usually involve free drink tickets or something like that. There are often raffles for prizes and very often a blackjack table where the main purpose is to make money for the couple, hence the ties to the house rule (pretty standard). There is usually some kind of food served later in the evening, and copious amounts of alcohol sold and consumed. Good times for all.In Ontario I would say a majority of couples have one of these before getting married, are they uncommon in the States or elsewhere?Mike
