I Called In Sick Today

My bad then. I thought I remember you saying you hated getting in front of the group and presenting. I might be conflating that with something else.

I'm old, I forget things

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Honestly surprised you haven't dropped a "start dressing like an adult if you want to be taken ssriously" yet, TBH.

And to that I say that both of my immediate (37 and 60ish women) bosses are wearing hooded sweatshirts, jeans, and awful running shoes.

Came in to the office today. First time in six months. Kind fun...but also kind of boring. Did flop 8d7d6d with Td9d for an early medium pot. Think it was my second straight flush live...maybe third. Oh, also flopped quads in a three way raised pot but failed to make anything extra.

So you created a straw man argument and then took the other side?

Interesting.

I don't take issue with how you dress at work. If they allow jeans, wear jeans. I certainly would

Bartender just gave me a free shot. She's kinda cute but between chubby and fat. I'd eat her butthole if she'd let me though. She mentioned a boyfriend earlier though. Kinda sorta drunk. My fav bartender gets here in 23 minutes so I'm holding out. Plus I figured two drinks ago I'm going to need an uber so I might as well make it count.

I chatted with the CEO for a total of maybe six hours this week. I have been working late as **** to accommodate west coast hours, so I've started bringing in nice bourbon to tempt people to stop by at the end of their day, join me in the library for a drink. he is unable to pass up that situation if he happens to walk by, and it happened twice this week (Tuesday and Wednesday).

he's a good guy, loves talking about the company, future plans, and just general life bullshit over bourbon.

I had a nice session of poker last night. Fun table, lots of action, mostly horrible (more horrible than me) players. The bad beat jackpot is at $160,000 so every tom dick and Harry is coming out trying to get in on the action. They're down to quad 3's or better beat to hit.

I'm (slowly) getting better with bet sizing. I came up with Doyle's power poker so I learned NL (tournaments) when the norm was half or pot sized bets. Now playing $1/2 cash, everyone is into controlling the pot and it's common to see a $10 pre flop raise, $10 or $15 continuation bet with 4 callers etc... And "oversized" bets, meaning pot sized, get called more often than the smaller bets mentioned earlier because people think you're just trying to steal the pot.

Reading cobalts post, I cannot remember ever getting a straight flush. Let alone flopping one.

I think I've had two straight flushes at the local casino. Once was when they had a progressive pot for each SF (5 high, 6 high, etc) but it had been recently hit so I only got around $150. Another time was when they went to a flat SF bonus of $100 so they could build the BBJ quicker. Hard to complain about free money.

I've hit monte Carlos for quads twice. Been there when the BBJ was hit at another table twice but that's about it.

Naps, mad props to your for heading out, hitting the watering hole, talking to some ladies and being in the mix. I love it. That's how it happens. You're gonna run into some ass sooner or later.

I always needed a buddy to be my starter. He would be the staring pitcher, throw 6 strong innings, and I'd come in warm and do what I do, make jokes, buy a few rounds and occasionally close.

Tilt, congrats on the poker. I need to play some poker. Maybe I'll try and play sober and play straight. No huge bluffs, and try to make some scratch. Just a little, I'm not greedy. But I'll take lots

Colby, how did the big tourney at the hard rock go?

Bet sizing is one of the places where there's always room for improvement. Like, for a beginning player, 2/3 pot usually works great as a default, but when there's a lot of fun intricacy when you can start smartly throwing in some 25% pot and overbets. Had a nice little root beer in the tournament yesterday that worked out decently.

I've had 132 straight flushes...so I think about one per month since I've been playing. 27 of those have been royals.

Oh, and I recently got a book that would be great to read for what you play. It's called The Course by Ed Miller. I'm not done with it, but he specifically targets 1/2, 2/5, and 5/10 casino poker. The general ideas can be applied broader than that, but almost the whole book is split into those three sections.

Colby, how did the big tourney at the hard rock go?

Still in it. Finished 1B with 61k from a starting stack of 25k. That's not great...the avg going to day 2 will probably be 120k, but it's still 20bb when we come back. Didn't have to re-enter, so that was great. Got to enjoy an off-day today as a result.

Stayed here at the paid Hard Rock room (quite nice...especially the shower) with my wife. My MIL has the kids, so first time in a while without a baby alarm. Slept late.

Went to niece's birthday party at a bouncy house gym and played with my kids. Had my oldest sitting on my shoulders towards the end...she was wiped and fell asleep up there. It was cute. Random customer lady comes up and told me I needed to take her off my shoulders because she could wake up and jerk her neck. I internally eyerolled, but took her down since I was probably doing it soon anyway. So many people let fear dictate their parenting, and I think it's really dumb. Gotta let kids be kids even if it means a little "danger" occasionally.

We went to the really nice Hard Rock pool when we got back. Have been looking forward to trying the water slide for years...but have never been a hotel guest. It was really great for a hotel slide. Something like a decent one from a water park. Unfortunately, as I tried to go for a second time, the lifeguard said the pool was closed. This was odd since it was 4:55pm and it wasn't supposed to close until 6. I inquired of someone else...apparently there was an "incident". I took that as code for a kid dropped a deuce in the pool.

Anyway, got done with a nap, and going to clean up and head to a fancy dinner at a steakhouse.
