my first time

Recommended Posts

I am going to a B&M for the first time this weekend. I am planning on playing 1-2 nl. Just a couple of questions. What should I expect the level of play will be compared to online? How much should I bring for a buy in?What is the standard tip for dealers? Is there anything else I need to be aware of with live play.I realize I will probably get flamed pretty good, but that is ok, a lot of them are pretty funny. Thanks in advance.

I am going to a B&M for the first time this weekend. I am planning on playing 1-2 nl. Just a couple of questions. What should I expect the level of play will be compared to online? Less hands per hour. Around the same amount of donkage. More pressure to pay attention to physical tells and betting patterns. How much should I bring for a buy in? 200-400, but more if you want to buy back in should you bust. What is the standard tip for dealers? There is no standard. Tipping is not a neccesity, but you if want, tip what you feel is correct. Is there anything else I need to be aware of with live play. NoI realize I will probably get flamed pretty good, but that is ok, a lot of them are pretty funny. No flaming is necessary. Thanks in advance.

I am going to a B&M for the first time this weekend. I am planning on playing 1-2 nl. Just a couple of questions. What should I expect the level of play will be compared to online?Mixed batch but I'd say generally worse. How much should I bring for a buy in?$100 is normally the max where I've played. So maybe bring 2 buy-ins just in case, as long as you can afford it. The swings can be nasty. What is the standard tip for dealers?$1 for a small pot...then maybe $2-3 for a bigger oneIs there anything else I need to be aware of with live play.BE PATIENT!!!...hands will come...don't force play.I realize I will probably get flamed pretty good, but that is ok, a lot of them are pretty funny. Thanks in advance.

i tipped $10 from a $310 pot for a straight flush today. tipping is just personal preference. usually $1-$3/pot from what i've seen.

A few general rules that My wife and I use when we play 1-2 nl live.1. Tight is right. There is no reason not to sit back and relax and wait for premium hands. Remember if you buy in for $100 ten lose limp ins is a big % of your stack.2. Use the gap effect if I have a raise in front of me I will only call with a premium hand. No worse than QQ.3. Look out for two or more maniacs at your table. If people start calling your 10-15 dollar raises pre flop. Than it might be a good idea to change tables because variance will be too high.4. Only push your big advantages. If its not worth raisin its not worth calling.Hope this helps.

Beware that you're going to have to probably throw in $6 every time a new dealer comes, which is usually every half hr. But like everyone else said, it's not a bad thing to play tight, especially if you have some maniacs at your table.. But if you build a stack and everyone else seems to be playing super tight, don't be afraid to make some stabs every now and then... and if you're re-raised, you're probably beat. It'll pay off if you play the premium hands and make bets when you got something.

It depends on the casino, but in general I'd say much, much looser. A "standard PF raise is likely going to be $10-$20 rather than $6-$10 and the range of hands should be the same or looser. You might be able to bluff depending on the table, but I wouldn't try anything more than an occasionl continuation bet with AK until you have a good idea how the table's playing. In general, just make sure that you don't change your game just because the table's going crazy, and be patient even if the game's going slow and you should be able to make a solid profit.

Terrible, these people are here to gamble. Online players at least have some idea or they wouldn't take the time to set up neteller, etc. Go after the crap players and don't tangle with the ones you perceive as "good", b/c they might think you're crappy and call you down with junk and suck out on you.
How much should I bring for a buy in?
3/4 of the max buyin is probably best, but if everyone at the table has much more or less, follow the leader..
What is the standard tip for dealers?
Whatever you feel like. Give them at least a buck if you see a turn card with action on the flop, more if you score big.
Is there anything else I need to be aware of with live play.
Don't bet out of turn. You will get yelled at if you talk strategy at the table louder than a whisper. Don't string bet (research on here to find out what that means if you don't know). DON'T OUTRIGHT BLUFF; semi-bluffs are ok only if you think player is really weak or you can push a good player off a marginal hand.Good luck.
