the professor and the lecture (long)

Recommended Posts

Hello there guys... havent posted in a bit in general but i think its time for me to do this...... my story today is about the professor.. no not howard lederer.. but the professor in my local game.. im sure every game has this professor.. you know the professor... the guy in the game who can tell you all about pot odds..... can tell you all about which hands to play in what position.... how badly a certain someone played in postion with some crappy hand... how badly the player underbet or overbet the pot... no matter what the situation, no matter the outcome of the hand... the Professor always has something to say.... i might be somewhat to blame for the professors presonality.... when he first started playing, he did it for fun, his game had a lot of players in it ( about 15-20 every fri night ) with a buy in of 20 bucks.... not crazy stakes and then about 8-10 players would stay for the cash game ( 1-2 NL ) when i first played in this game i was astounded by the play, players would tell other players not to call because they had a great hand. a player would call another players big bet and lose and the other player would push back a decent size of the pot back to the losing player... i was shocked because in my other games the players were ruthless, non-softplaying type of players, as was i..... so after that game i talked to the guy who ran the game and the Professor to be and said... why play the game for money if your constantly going to softplay each other.. just play with play chips and dont risk anything since thats what your doing anyway... the future professor to be and i became friends and i actually helped him run his poker game and also taught his some things about the game ( his game was super predictable and super tight ) but i ended up creating a monster....... the lecturing all knowing professor.... back to the present.... Professor can not help himself, no matter where he is at and no matter the stakes, he always has a lecture for someone who plays worse then him and ends up taking his hard earned chips in tournaments and in cash... I have tried talking to him before games to tell him to relax... dont go crazy, dont go into the lecture phase of his game, just play and relax and have a good time... if someone puts a beat on you and you feel the steam rising and the speech coming, just get up and take a break.... people get tired of the speechs and rants and it just makes them want to come at you harder.... and not only that, it makes them not want to play in your game anymore.... theres always another game somewhere.... anyway... there is no point or moral to this story..... just felt like telling a story, im sure some of you know professors, some of you dont ( online players, but i play on UB and i see a lot of little professors in there also ) some of you will hate this post, some of you will like it, but as long as a few people enjoy it then it was worth it.... but at least its not another ... you know your playing a fish threads.....Chris

This might be an interesting story...I don't know because it is completely unreadable. Would it be that much harder to use actual sentences when writing long posts?
I found it easy to read. You're just being a dick. The ....... was a little annoying however.

Is there a thin line between a "professor" and someone who likes to talk poker? Because I love to talk poker. I guess the difference would be in the lecture. A friend of mine play in a weekly game, and we spend the whole night talking about hands. We never berate or criticize others play (it's -EV anyway), but we do spend a lot of time talking about hands. I guess it could come as a "professor" like attitude, but screw anyone who cares.

sorry about the .......... guys, didnt know it bothered you so much.anyway i put in paragraphs in this topic but it didnt take, dont ask me why. ill work on my dots and sentence structure for now on in the general section because i forget how many college professors there are on FCP :club: and for the person who asked about talking about poker was being a professor, no its not, talking to another player the whole night about about hands privately is not being a professor, so no worries.thanks guys for the serious responses, and as for the flamers, i still love you. im going back to UB for some more sit and go action.

I love those guys!!! They make my day and create a fun table to be at. I like to limp with rags when those guys are in a hand and do my best to suck out on them. When they start talking poop I just act like I have no idea whats going on (may be closer to the truth than i want to admit) and tell him to pass some salsa over 'cause his chips are salty!!Booyah!

Am I the only one that's going to admit to being the professor. For a second there, I thought you were one of my buddies from my weekly game talking about me. I admit that I'm ultra competitive no matter what I'm doing and poker is no different. I've been trying to not be so critical lately, but I think I'll always be "that guy".

If I am playing with someone that is a good friend.....and I mean a GOOD friend.....AFTER I win the pot from them...I will sometimes ask them "Do you want to learn something about that last hand?" If they say no...I say nothing...but usually...they will say ..."yeah...tell me what i did wrong..." and I will explain what happened in the hand and what they did wrong....BUT...it is only with VERY good friends that I do not want to see get beat up by outsiders that might join the game....and I WILL ONLY do this amongst very good friends...if there is ONE outsider...I won't say a word...
