tipping frenzy

If you read any of the other posts, you would see I'm also in the service industry and I dont get tipped for doing my job in a polite and helpful manner.  I dont see the need for them to get tipped.
What SIN job could you possibly have that doesnot provide you with tips from customers? Let's rule out the obvious jobs you can't have:waiterbell hopbar tenderdoor man (club or hotel)cookvaletcleaning crewdealerbaristabar backhair stylistmanicurist etc...car washergas pump attendentgrocery store baggerstripperbouncerI'm sure I could go on, but I think you get the idea. If its a job in which you only get a salary, then it is most likely not a SIN job. I'm truly baffled as to what SIN job does not include tips
I'm a cashier at Walgreens. I check the items and bag them myself. I help customers find items when they ask. Since my store isn't open 24 hours, I'm also the stocker. If someone can't reach an item, I'll get it for them. My store is also located on the corner of a busy intersection, so quite a few people come in and ask for directions. I help people out way more than a dealer does, but I don't get tipped. Oh well. Now you bring in the waiters and bartenders. They do a lot more than dealers and some are put in very stressful situations. The toughest thing a dealer does is create sidepots.I don't care about poker etiqutte in this situation. I don't think the dealers do anything worthy of a tip.
Okay, I understand your argument about what you do in comparison to them, but you get at least minimum wage guaranteed per hour, they do not. Just like true SIN workers, they are paid less than minimum wage in most cases and their make up comes from tips. That's why waiters get $2/hr. - the rest is made up in tips. Check it out and see how it goes - I'd be surprised if someone at the table doesn't say something to you.

Wow you people get so worked up over nothing! I play at a B+M all the time and tip when I finish up and don't when I finish down, simple as that. I pay absolutely no attention to who tips and who does not at the table and I doubt many of you do. If you do pay attention to whether others are tipping or not, you are shallow and need to worry about your self. If a dealer is doing a bad job then I won't tip just like I won't tip a waitress if she does a bad job. Tipping is totally voluntary and is at the players discretion. Personally, I tip when a dealer gets up from the table as opposed to every pot I win. Bottom line-dealers do not work for you, they work for the casino. Tipping is totally voluntary and if you don't want to do it then don't. If by some chance you do tip, you are not a better person than someone who doesn't!

No, no, no. The toughest thing dealers do is try and work out which of the 8 hands that went to show down win the damn omaha hand. God himself has a hard time working it out half the time. And God better help the dealer who gets stuck with the high-low table.

kingaustin, just shut up and tip.
Very convincing. I won't now just to spite you.
I could careless if you tip or not. you are the one who is going to look like a douche at the tables. trust me. the dealers and all the other players at your table will hate you. after you get up from your table, they are all going to follow you and take you to the restroom where they will run a train on you for hours!

Not to change the subject here, but, should I be tipping the chick who brings my food to the car at Applebee's "Carside to Go?"I feel that this is "take-out" food, and no tip is required, but then again, they are coming out to my car.I'M SO CONFUSED!

I havent been to a B&M yet, but when I do (thanksgiving break), I dont think I'll be tipping the dealer. They are getting paid to sit there and deal cards. I'll let the others tip them unnecessarily.
Ah, the melodic sound of ignorance. Most dealers (outside of Vegas) get paid below minimum wage. They take home what you give them. If there wasn't a dealer you would be getting hands dealt out at an astonishing rate of 12 hands/hr. Dealers are there to keep people from cheating you out of all your money. They are trained to control the game, spot colluding, and make change when needed. If the dealer can't do his/her job, don't tip. If a dealer is capable and knows what he/she is doing, tip accordingly. Otherwise, keep your sorry, no tipping ass at home on the internet or I'll make your knuckles bleed when I deal to you.

Hey, thanks for the retarded e-thug response. It's the employers duty to pay the employee, no? Fortunately for the food and casino industries, they found a way around the system so they get to pay their employees crap, but thanks to tippers, keep their employees happy. So for employer and employee, it's a win win situation, while people like me who don't care for tipping become rude, inconsiderate douche bags.I'm glad I couldn't care less about what most people think of me.

Now I'm really not going to choose sides on this dispute, personally I think it's up to the individual whether they tip or not, do I care if they do? Personally, No, it doesn't affect me in any way. What someone chooses to do with their money is up to them and I don't feel any of us should be able to judge someone for choosing not to tip.I started playing live before I played online, so I was always accustomed to tip eventhough I'm young myself. I kind of saw everybody else tipping so I just did the same. Tipping in B&M casinos gets out of hand IMO, it gets to the point where in a 10/20 game, if your tipping less than $5, you look cheap. Someone mentioned that there are shills tipping huge to encourage everyone to do the same and it does happen at B&M casinos. If you notice someone always tipping their white chips, chances are they're a shill. Really though, if you're a serious poker player, you need to look at your expenses carefully, especially if your a pro or playing for a living. Tipping and the Casino's high rake will seriously eat into your profits. You add in the fact that your getting in so many less hands per hour than playing online and you can easily see that it is much more profitable to be playing poker online unless your a high limit player. That is the reason why I barely ever play live anymore, if I do, it would probably only be more for enjoyment or just practice.Matter of fact, I would say low limit games are extremely difficult to beat and it would actually take some skill to turn a decent profit. The play is terrible, but the rake is often $10 max even for 5/10 games and then tipping on top of it.

$10?? The most I've ever seen was in a low limit room in Florida and that was $5. Most rooms in Vegas rake a max of $3. The same can be said about the rooms in Mississippi. If a room is raking any more than that... don't go there. Until recently, casinos didn't like having poker rooms because there wasn't any money in them. Now they surround the rooms with craps tables, black jack, 3-card poker and video poker. Compared to what they get from these games, they still don't get anything from the poker rooms.

All of you are pretty much at adulthood or near adulthood. All of you probably will have kids at some time, others already do. Those kids at some point will work for tips in the service industry- these jobs generally pay better then alot of jobs out there. ( My waiter job. 40 hours. Avg 800 a week- a good week is 1,000. ) When those kids work these jobs, you will want people to tip your kids for what they do. So, start now. On a side note, if everybody tipped the way they should, I would easily take home 1,200 every week. Thats 800 a month more that becuase of cheap retarded a ss holes, I never see. That's alright, the percentages are on my favor.

LOL! Yes, I'm jealous that I'm not a waiter. Caught me. First of all I'm 18 and still in school, so no time for a full time job. When I graduate from ISU with my computer engineering degree, avg. starting salary directly out of college is 52k. I'll feel a much better sense of accomplishment doing something fun and something good for the future than asking "would you like ranch, french, or italian dressing with that salad, sir? Fries or potatoes? Rare, medium rare, or well done, sir? Oh, is it your son's birthday?! Let me go gather my crew and we will all go get these cute little hats and sing for you!"

I'm glad I couldn't care less about what most people think of me.
That's good in this case, because your attitude toward service workers is as unattractive as it is meanspirited. Hopefully you will grow out of this "fuck you, pay me" attitude as you become an adult.I am sorry that you work as a cashier at Walgreens and that nobody tips you as a result. But you knew that when you took the job. Don't take out your attitude toward your job and the short stick you're getting on the nice folks who run your cardgame. All not tipping is going to do is brand you a jerk at the place you play cards. And remember Mr. White in Reservoir Dogs? That guy didn't believe in tipping either and he got shot. I'm just saying... karma, she's a bitch.

I don't tip because society says I have to. Alright, I mean I'll tip if somebody really deserves it, but I mean this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. I order coffee I want it filled six times. Jesus Christ, these ladies aren't starving to death - they make minimum wage.

I previously stated somewhere back in this chaotic thread that if the dealer was a genuinely nice guy and was doing a very good job, then I'll tip. I like my job at Walgreens btw. It doesn't bother me that I don't get tipped. My whole argument though was that I do way more than a dealer, but they are the ones getting tipped.

I have an answer for this!I've done this once, and when they bought out my credit card slip to sign, I didn't. Then when they returned with the food, I asked the 'runner' if it was normal to tip for carside service. He said only half of the customers will tip for carside and those that do usually give 2 or 3 dollars.By the way Austin, you sound like you be playing 3/6 or 4/8 at the casino you're going to. I'd be very surprised if noone at these limits said anything to you about not tipping. Be prepared to sound stupid in front of nine guys explaining your logic on not tipping.

The B&M casinos as well as smaller charity casinos tend to have $10 max rake, sometimes along with 10% rake as well, which makes the game virtually unbeatable at 5/10. The larger casinos rake is still fairly high at $7 or $8 max fairly often at 10% of each pot. I'm not from Vegas, but I would imagine the rake is lower considering there are more people who play there in general. But, here in Toronto, the rake is pretty rediculous and makes it not worth my while unless there's a particularly juicy game going on.Yes, casinos don't make as much money off poker, because it takes up lots of space area wise while not neccessarily providing a ton of profit for the house when compared to a slot machine or craps table. Of course, this is the reason why people like myself play poker in the first place, because we have an edge and can beat the game whereas playing craps, the house has the edge over you.
