The Official Lethbridge Golden Seals Thread!

Yeah that's a great tandem, and to be fair, I didn't have the patience to actually check how boston and stl meshed with eachother for coverage, I just know they were both in the top 5 for FCHL games played, and were pretty decent on 6-7 game nights as well.

I don't always reply to a post without quoting it, but when I do, I prefer it to be the first post on a new page.     /leastinterestingmanintheworld

I have always assumed the guys who talk about "coverage" have a neat excel trick that allows this to happen in under 30 seconds, or else going through every game night and figuring out which pairs make the best couple would be ridiculously tedious and quite.....insane? :)

I did the latter last year. This year I just took hat I could get in the end.

This is the first year I even calculated FCHL schedule coverage for each team and it took about 3 hours and was ridiculously tedious/mind numbingly boring.

took me about 30 minutes

but I should add that I already have a spreadsheet with the AHL game nights and NHL teams who play each night on it to upload to the AHL website

Lethbridge Golden Seals 2014 Offseason Round-up

Press Release from Coaldale, Alberta. August 11th, 2014

Dubey, the Golden Seals long time GM, Treasurer, Vice President of hockey operations, PR specialist and recently appointed head of Advanced Analytics, has recently put the finishing touches on what was a very busy offseason full of trades, signings, draft picks, mystery, and watching Big Brother. In a move that was scarcely publicized, on Friday August the 8th, the Golden Seals Officially moved their home offices from West Lethbridge, Alberta to Coaldale, Alberta. The team has no plans to change it's name at this time, and will continue to represent the fine city of Lethbridge going forward, albeit from a distance of 10 KM to the East of city limits, a safe distance from the generally unsavourable types that roam the downtown quarter, but who are no less beloved as fans and supporters of this great franchise.

Below are a summary of the transactions that took place this offseason, along with a brief quote from Dubey.

1. Golden Seals trade Steven Stamkos ($6, UFA at season's end) to the Blindsides in exchange for Mats Zucarello ($1 Farm, forced callup), the #22 pick in the 2014 draft, and $6 in cap for the 2015-16 season.

Dubey: "Sometimes, you have to be realistic, and there comes a time for every GM where you have to start planning for the future. We didn't feel as though we had a chance to compete this year, so we locked up a hugely valuable future asset in Mats Zucarello, as well as some cap for the 2015-16 season, which figures to be a monumentally important season for the Seals Franchise. Plus we managed to piss off the rest of the league by trading the best player in the league to the 2 time defending champions, and you really can't pass up that kind of oppurtunity".

2. Golden Seals Trade their 2014 1st round pick (14th overall) +$6.25 in 2015-2016 cap, and Joey Hishon (Farm) to the Fearsome Beavers for Niklas Kronwall ($6.25 UFA at season's end), Joe Pavelski ($8.50 UFA at season's end) and $6.25 in 2014 cap

Dubey: "I look at the team I've assembled, and I think we have a chance to compete this year. I'm very happy to introduce 2 stud players to the lineup that can help immediately, at the cost of only a draft pick, and some guy who I've never even heard of. This move is double important since the freakin' Blindsides just acquired Steven F***ing Stamkos. Gotta match power with power. Draft Schmaft, as they say, Draft Schmaft"

3. Golden Seals sign Boston and St. Louis Goalies to 1 year extensions ($4.50 and $4, respectively)

Dubey: "Best goaltending tandem in the league again, bitches! This is important since I am pretty sure we are going for it this year"

4. Golden Seals trade $3.75 in 2015-2016 cap in exchange for Clarke Macarthur ($1.25 RFA), then sign Macarthur to a 5-year deal at $1.50 per.

5. Golden Seals Trade their 2015 1st and 3rd round picks. the #44 pick in the 2014 draft, and $7 in 2015-16 cap in exchange for Alex Galchenyuk (Farm)

Dubey: "firstly, we are for sure going for it this year, so those draft picks are going to be crappy as hell. Secondly, the 2015-16 season really doesn't matter, as can be seen by the $23 in 2015-2016 cap that has been practically given away by FCHL GMs this week alone (Including the $7 from this deal), this is a win-win-win deal. Win Now, Win Later, win Always (Except 2015-2016)"

6. Golden Seals sign Brent Burns to a 5 year deal at $5 per season

Dubey:" Is he a defenseman? Is he a Forward? F*** if I know! hahaha, hahahahahahaahhahahaha. I tried to structure this deal as 0/25/0/0/0, but apparantly that's against the "Rules"

7. Golden Seals sign Luke Schenn to a 5 year deal at $0.50 per season.

Dubey "I think there's been some kind of mistake"

8. Golden Seals sign Brendan Gallagher to a 5 year deal at $0.50 per season

Dubey: "I don't want to be overly dramatic, or hyperbolic here, but I think it's safe to say that the entire future of the Seals Franchise rests on the shoulders of Brendan Gallagher.'

9. Golden Seals call up Reilly Smith from the farm

Dubey: "I literally had no choice in the matter"

Am I missing something on Stamkos? You can't sign your own UFA s???

That would be a brutal trade otherwise.

Nope.

After you 'win' a contract you have the player for one season at which point they are a RFA. You can sign a RFA up to 5 years at which point they are a UFA and go back into the auction pool.

Yeah Stamkos is a 1 year rental, he goes to the auction after the 14-15 season. Still a brutal trade depending on who you ask.

I guess it comes down to your opinion of Zucarello, seems like he doesn't have a massive upside (esp w/o also getting a 1st rnd pick). Probably could have gotten more, given our cap +/- restrictions and very friendly cap hit.

I am biased here so take this with a grain of salt

I can see Zuccarello getting 70 points this year. Rangers regular season MVP in my opinion

Not sure about upside and what that means

Well, I think 70 pts would be his absolute peak, IMO.

Given you'll get 6 years out of him at a real good price, compared to just one out of Stamkos ... unless Stamkos puts you over the top in the one year (like it does for Ollie, maybe for you too), I don't think there's much shame in making the deal. Plus you got picks and cap, I see it both ways.

yeah, for me, it comes down to: what is the incremental value of having Stamkos in your lineup over Zuc for 1 season. In my mind, having 5 extra season of a 50-70 point player is more valuable than having 1 season of a 50g-50a player in the roster spot that will now instead be occupied by Zuc, a 20g 30a player. I could be wrong about that.

What it really comes down to, Is Zucarello has a bad ass name, and has never broken his leg in half and cost his FCHL franchise a good shot at the regular season title, which is the only real thing this team has a chance at since I lose in the first round every god damn year. F*** Stamkos

Hearing lots of trade buzz surrounding the Seals today. My sources are telling me one or all of the Whalers, the Ales, The Lost Cause, The Blindsides, The Flyers, The Rocket, The KC Reserves, or the Fearsome Beavers may be involved. e5. Stand by for further updates.

I've got a quick glance at trade papers via one of my sources in Cleveland. I can confirm one of the player's involved has a name that starts with M, or at least has an M in his name. e5. Papers still need to be approved by league but this is huge.
