Freeroll To Millions

Recommended Posts

First, let me give you a little background information on myself before I go into details about my quest. I'm recently "retired" and I live in Charlotte, NC. I'm married, have two children and couldn't be happier with my situation in life. I've played poker since I can remember my great-grandmother teaching me many moons ago. I obviously became interested in online poker watching Chris Moneymaker on ESPN some years ago and have been a very recreational player since then with no goals in sight. Well now that I have some extra time on my hands I decided to try a little quest, just so I could track my winnings and cure my boredom. I've decided since my account is on $0.00 and I've drained my FPP's as well with nothing to show, I'm going to start off fresh and see where I can steer this thing. It's a pretty simple concept I will play freerolls as often as I can trying to accumulate Round 2's and trying to cash in those. Once I have enough in my account in terms of buy-ins I will start grinding the micro multi-table tournaments. Hopefully I will continue this all the way to the high stakes and have a rags to riches story I can tell my grandchildren about and be an FCP Icon. I know this will take time and in all likelihood will not come to be, but I will give 100% on this and enjoy every minute of this ride. I will post updates on each tournament I play. When I make some cash, I will give updates as to my bankroll and continue with the tournament results. I hope you enjoy reading about it as I know I will enjoy writing about it. I plan on starting tommorow and hopefully will be updating daily whether I play or not. Yes, I could start a blog but this seems easier and I'm sure more people will hit this topic than if I had a blog. Wish me Luck and I play as 1nausp1c1ous on Pokerstars as well. Thanks

imo it's definitely worth the money to redeposit a small amount ($50) to skip the freerolls if you have it to spare. By shear size alone it is extremely difficult to make the final 11 tables in a Round 1 freeroll that it will take you a long time to make enough to have a comfortable roll for $1.10.

Playing the free rolls could give you bad habits that will hurt you in the long run.

I'm not looking into depositing online again, as money isn't the issue with this quest. I've only made one deposit online in my lifetime and that was through my old checking account and I don't want my new information out there. It's the difficulty of the challenge that is what I'm looking for to make this fun and interesting.

Yes, freerolls have some pretty horrific play. I fully understand not to take the same approach to real money as the freerolls. This quest isn't me starting out in online poker as I have played many years recreationally. I've made a decent amount over that time with this hobby, but this is something I've been wanting to do and now that I've inherited some free time so I'm going for it.

later stages of freerolls the play is fine imo, the early stages are grossi've cashed in about 4 on ft and satellited into tourneys in about 5 more, 2700-1800 fields top 27 or 18 spots paythe first stages of building a roll are very hard i find, but i still haven't found more than 20% of the player in most of the larger games, and by larger i mean $5 entry mtt to be that much better, there are a couple really decent players, make notes on them as they do stand outgl

Do you play other games beside Hold'em? For PokerStars: Your EV is probably greater in the non NL Holdem Freerolls. Just play very tight the first few levels until all the spew tards bust themselves (if you have a very strong hand then try to punish them for their idocy), then take advantage of your superior play skill. Since there are so many freerolls you can afford to gamble to build quick chips stacks unless it's limit (avoid the tards I mentioned earlier when doing this).

Yes, I've noticed the same when I've dabbled into them in the past while killing time. I also think cashing in on a Weekly Round 2 is going to be the most difficult part of this quest, but I'm definitely up for the challenge.

Yes, I play all forms of poker and am glad that Pokerstars offers up a variety of games with the freerolls because I get bored with NLHE after a while. Anyway, that will definitely be my strategy as well and hopefully I won't have to grind them too long :club: .

From my limited experience with the freerolls the Round 2's are easier since it's a normal payout structure as opposed to having to get to the final 11 tables. You still need to take advantage of every round two you get into since it's such a pain to do so.

in my experience it is much easier and much more fun to built up a bankroll with play money.this is quite easy when you play sitngo's when you have a million you can sell it at some site for 5$it used to be 10$ but now they have these sitngo's of 150k and 200k, which is a lot easier to accumulate more play money chipsi first tried the freerolls as well but they took very long and when you dont cash in round 2 all you effort was for nothing :ts anyway then i sold my play money and now my bankroll is up to 250$, which is quite the accomplishment i think :club: by the way, there are mostly NLHE sitngo's, but at the 10k you also find horse, PLO, 2-7 singe draw etc.gl

To build from freerolls, I would say play on PitbullPoker.com. I would never advise you to make a deposit there, because they'll add an instant bonus to it and then will refuse to release any money until you complete the conditions they set forth. However, they have $25 freerolls that are limited to 300 entrants and that pay 18. It's pretty easy to make it to the money, I'd say if you focus all your energy on it you could have $20 in a week. They also have $25 "freerolls" with rebuys that aren't all that difficult to cash in without rebuying, because most of the people don't have a balance to make rebuys with.Once you reach the cashout minimum, you could use that to deposit to a bigger site and go from there. I got a balance up to $120 at pitbull and they let me cashout without ever making a deposit a year or two ago. Not sure if the T&C have changed, but that will get you past the freeroll/supermicro stage much, much faster.

What site is this? Is this legal to do? I don't want to get my account locked, but I'm sure I read somewhere that this wasn't allowed on Pokerstars.

Yeah, there are faster ways to do this but there is no deadline for me. One day I may get bored with this quest but until then I'm just going to have some fun with it. Poker is a hobby of mine, I am not in it as much for the money as I am to just having something to do with money being an added bonus.

Any success yet?
None yet, unfortunately. I have been away on vacation to the tropics, so haven't played in over a week. I hope to play some this coming week for sure with some success to brag about.

Hey man, keep at them. I just recently made $19 off a Weekly Round 2 and now have a bankroll to play with. It took what seemed like an eternity to finally make something off them but when you do it feels like you just won a bracelet! OK, it doesn't feel that good but it's the hardest $19 I ever made and I'm glad to say I'm no longer playing freerolls :club: .

I agree with the majority of what was said here.Freerolls result in horrible habits being formed. And are an exceedingly long and tedious process that seldom result in profit. I'd recommend depositing a small amount..tends to be much more beneficial much quicker.Plus you'll have to prepare for the whole table going all in preflop first hand with hands like K 2 and J 7

Do yourself a favour. Deposit $50, if you are afraid of your "details getting out" get a buddy to send you some $$$$.Freerolls are not good for your poker mindset IMO. And for the same effort as winning $50 on them, you would be up $100s if you only made the initial deposit.

There is a casino near me that offers free roll tournaments. I never go to that casino, so what the crap is a free roll? (please forgive the newb question)
The buy-in is free, usually sattelites to other tournaments or promotional things.

it can be done. I have never deposited money on any internet site and i have built several decent rolls. i freerolled on fulltilt and built it up to over $300 and on pokerstars i freerolled and got $6 from a round 2 and played the micro penny stakes and built it up to over $100 and then got 2 place in a 2.20 tourney for $594 so now i have a roll over $750 and bout 3 or 4 months ago i was a hopeless freeroller... just trying to give ya some confidence!!
