keith crime 8
Laak doesn't seem to be aligned with any online sites - is this trueanyone know why - it seems like free moneymaybe he doesn't play online
StrippersNBlow 0
I love Phil, but I don't see how he would attract traffic to a poker site at this point.

JoblessBast 0
I can think of two possible reasons:1) I remember in an interview he said he doesn't really like online because he likes the social aspect of live poker as well as being able to read people and get in their heads via his antics.2) The whole "Unibomber" character I would guess is not the most attractive for online poker sites trying to portray positive images. HighwayStar 8
Where? At the Bellagio, I hear he's quite deepstacked.
myenemy 0
I agree that he is probably mainly a live player and in addition to that I think he only even plays the TV games to get more action on the 10/20 NL at the Bellagio. He's in business for himself.
Chet Chetterson 0
His show with Antonio is close enough of a sponsorship to make some extra money on the side. Also, he has a sugar mama right now as long as JTill didn't spew all of the money off a la Mike Tyson and many others.

Flushgarden 0
I just searched for it but couldn't find it...but there was a thread a while back that alluded to him having a very sketchy past. Maybe that has something to do with it.
HubDub04 0
Apparently, when Laak lived overseas, he rolled some guy for $30k or something. Who knows if it's true. Here's a link.http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/poker-pro-...ling-78127.html

Jam-Fly 8
another thing I couldn't figure out was why does Laak come to the Irish Open every year? I mean, he's not gaining any exposure for a site, he's not doing to 'promote' his image in Ireland, it's not because of a high stakes tournament or high stakes cash game. Doesn't make much sense. As in, he could achieve most of these things playing some random 5k in LA or Vegas. I don't think poker sites would not like to have Laak as one of their pros. He is a well known name and despite his antics (which aren't that bad, I'd be much concerned having a player like Matusow as an ambassador for my site), the site would obviously have spin doctors and people to make sure the image he conveyed was the image the poker site wanted. Jam-Fly 8
cuz Ireland is the most beautiful place on earth?yeah that was one possibility. But to come from LA is a long haul, and he's seen the damn place 4 times already. Why do you need to be in the most beautiful place on earth more than 4 times!?!Isn't he Irish?Yeah, I think he was born in Dublin. Maybe it is he does just want to come to his homeplace/most beautiful place in the world once a year. The only thing is, poker tournaments usually are the same wherever you go, and you rarely leave the hotel/casino. If this was the reason, it would make more sense to come to Ireland for a non-poker related vacation. But then I suppose maybe he has a 'spiritual' connection to the place and winning the Irish Open would mean a lot to him. Also, here's another conspiracy theory against Laak, what's the deal with his age? He's been quoted in several interviews/factfile things as saying his age is actually like 10 years younger than he actually is????
rochyfish 0
Met Phil in Cardiff a few years ago when he was playing in the William Hill Grand Prix. Seemed like a nice guy. Didn't try to get me killed. I thought he was nice.
